- Mercedes-Benz Trucks is continuing to revamp its range of trucks at top speed. The new specialist for construction work is following on the heels of the new Actros for long-distance transport and the Antos for heavy-duty short-radius distribution: from 2013 on all the trucks and tractor units used for on and off-road applications in the construction sector will be known under the name Arocs.
This extremely diversified sector has never seen such a wide range of vehicles on offer to suit customer needs. From the outset, all the engines have been designed to meet the future Euro VI emissions standard and are available for order as a Euro VI version.
The unmistakeable design of the new Mercedes-Benz Arocs is as unusual as the complete truck. The specially designed styling of the construction truck family stands out because of its radiator grille with so-called bucket-teeth- look. It's too tall, u need step up tru three steps to get in. It's gone shake all the way in Wyoming's winds. Why just put the engine in front under the hood like American way and low the deck.
Because the length matters a lot more than the height.
Clearly the height is not the huge issue you seem to think.. Otherwise the companies would stop making them like this. It's not just a Mercedes thing. Everyone but the Americans have stopped making trucks with the front engine long ago. They used to do that, but they moved on. These days only trucks with some special purpose like military, off-road etc. have different configs. Like the Mercedes Zetros for example. By having the engine in front, maintenance on the go becomes much easier and you also get a higher maximum fording depth without special preparations because the engine sits higher off the ground.
For normal driving around delivering stuff at shops etc. the shorter front is a much bigger advantage. Your turning radius becomes smaller, it's much easier to judge your distance to whatever is in front of you and you just take up less space in general, which can't possibly be a bad thing.
For countries where there are limits to your total length, that lets you carry a longer trailer (and more goods) than a truck with a huge "nose" would. Much of your legal length would go towards that front engine.

Because here in Europe a longer tractor equals a smaller trailer = less money. That's why you barely see any torpedo trucks here.

My father works for a company that runs a load of these wagons. (RHD) and most of the drivers are pretty porky, not very porky, but porky. And they all said they couldnt fit in em! Brilliant!
i drive one of thoose...and one of my coworkers is fat just plain fat and he fits in it without any problems....

Es wirkt Billig,die Fächer sind zu klein (man bekommt keine Microwelle rein) Zentraldisplay ist zu winzig...Sorry....lasst keine unwissenden Desihnstudenten ran,sondern holt euch die Anregungen wie man einen Truck baut und ausstattet von den Fahrern !
