Husqvarna 3120XP Sloppy Bar Stud

- This Husqvarna 3120XP chainsaw is a big beast made for big bars. Those big bars tend to stress things like anti-vibe buffers and bar studs. This saw needed attention on both of those. #smallenginerepair

I finally took the time to see your handy work! Nice job Scott!
Thanks for watching!
X pattern on the stud fix. That is why I watch your channel. Brilliant. Plus it's nice to watch someone who is competent at their job. To many people have no clue what their doing even at their day job. It's refreshing to see. I have a few Husqvarna chainsaws and I want to learn how to work on it myself because I'm tired of paying my local dealer for repairs then get the saw back and it's still mot right. Thanks so much
Thanks for watching!
Great morning for some learning videos... Thanks
New subscriber from Chris's channel. Great to see how to repairs. Thanks
Great to see new subscribers. Thanks for watching!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
That's one heck of a handle on that pull starter! Thanks for another great video with a ton of useful information
It requires one heck of a pull!
Wow...big boy saw for sure man! Nice work on that stud Scott.
Thanks!
Good timing. Saw Chris’ video the other day showcasing your work space and tool box. Funny when dif channels we watch collaborate
Ya with a channel like mine it doesn't really matter where I'm located so I guess a lot of people never think about it.
Nice knurling fix utilizing the tools available.
Thanks. I like repairs that don't cost more than they need to.
Nice work! I really like that ratcheting die.
Do you ever grab a tool out of the box just because you paid good money for it and feel you ought to use it every so often?
Scott that's why you don't let anyone use your tools brother, special tool I don't let people know I even own them 😁
I don't mind loaning tools if they are staying in the shop. I only get a little pissy if they get broken. What I hate is when they don't come back or nobody tells me its broken.
I saw you channel from Chris's visit last week. Very interesting site. I liked the videos so I also subscribed. Keep up the interesting videos. I have a Husky 555, 562XP and 550 XP.
Thanks for joining the channel. Those saws you have are amongst the most common I work on.
Such a cool saw, great video!
Thanks for watching!
I really like that Mityvac tool you’re always using.
The kit I use is the Mityvac MV8500 and comes with a bunch of adapters and such.
Great vid.thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Kenny did it!! All these years later and he's still breaking Chris's stuff
Lol!
This saw originally came from The Novice Lumberjack. Before that who knows. I think he said the cylinder was not original and from watching Chris use it the saw seems underwhelming for a 3120. Just found your channel from his. Very cool channel and nice work my friend. I love your shop as I live in the area like Chris and Husqvarna’s are my saw of choice. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for checking out the channel!
@@TheGreasyShopRag you’re welcome. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
great to watch someone who really knows what they're doing...thumbs up
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Pretty work as always, thanks for sharing!
Thanks (again) for watching!
Awesome job brother, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
Hi Scott. I watched Chris interviewing you a couple of nights ago. It was a great video 👍🏼. It’s always a pleasure watching both your channels.
Thanks for tuning in!
Agreed. Had no idea the shop was in Ripon. I drive through often.
Have watched a few of your videos. Good stuff. I like the way you do your videos.
Thanks. I'm on the clock and am constantly disturbed so narrating while repairing would never work. Plus its a working shop with a bunch of noise. I do a lot of audio editing to make it seem like I'm alone.
That just one thing I like about your videos…..bar studs. What is small to some, others have never worked with. I have never had any studs come out. Great information.
I have yet to see a saw with a bar stud dropped, so I’m glad Scott published this video.
@@Rein_Ciarfella things like that and also different models I’ve never seen.
I've been trying to post content that isn't a carb refresh but it ain't easy 😞
@@TheGreasyShopRag You’re getting more and more hits. I know how to do a lot…. But you’re giving me new ways of looking at things. It’s tough but carbs are a huge part. I still not help with carbs that have checks. You’re doing great.
Thanks for following along.@@steveriggenbach90
"The Man, the Myth, the Legend". LOL!.... (To borrow words from someone else). Good video Scott. Like to way you check everything out and your stud repair was a good idea! I also saw your interview with Chris, Great Tool Box! I'm looking at getting another Husqvarna, thinking about the 562 XP Mark II, I need a 60cc saw. To bad I'm way down here in South West Arkansas I'd come by and see you... Steve
Thanks for watching!
Morning Brother One of My Favorite Saws 😀
Its a heavy pig just like those concrete saws. I'll work on them but hope I never need to use one. 🙂
@@TheGreasyShopRag My Favorite Part of The Repair Is Testing The Repair Cutting Some Big Oak’s That We Have That Fell During The Last Hurricane and Old Parking Stops With Rebar For The Concrete Saws and The 462 Magnum Rock Boss Concrete Chainsaws 😊😀 I Agree Would Not Want Too Use Them All Day For a Living
The test is a very important part of the repair. My favorite part? I read the work order and guess what the problem is. Seeing if I was right is my favorite part.@@chrischiampo7647
@@TheGreasyShopRagI Can Also Attest To That I Do Like That Too 😀😊
That’s one monster saw, Scott! Lucky you didn’t break your table when you did your usual bounce. 😉
Very cool little finger ratchet!
I was already a step ahead of you with the adhesive but I was thinking gel threadlocker instead. In retrospect I think I’d use Threebond 1184 because that’s what I have.
Great advice about X pattern chisel knurling, although I’d probably use a centerpunch in a staggered pattern.
Is that V-block a tool from a drillpress?
We use those blocks in the drill press and hydraulic press. The knurling is not just to take up the slop. If I hit it with the chisel one time it would probably hold the stud in place decent but once that 5 foot bar goes on it will torque on that stud and maybe loosen it. I'm not saying what the best way is, just giving you something to ponder.
I like that tap kit, what brand and model is it. Thank you. Great video. Take care brother
Snap-on re-thread set. Very similar to the good old RDT48.
I'm not sure who makes it but I think we have 2 or 3 in the shop and they all have different labels on them.
Good job
Thanks for watching!
🔥👍😁
✌
Another great video. Do you use 40:1 on higher cc saws? What cc do you change the ratio at?
I don't have any hard and fast rules and in fact a lot of times I do things on the fly based on how I feel at the moment. Its a big saw with a lot of run time and I also didn't know how long it would sit before he needed a 5 foot bar. The can I mixed of 40:1 was right there and it seemed like a good idea.
I’m sure Chris will be happy. 👍🏻👋
Do all studs go thru the oil tank like that ?
Have a great day.
On most Husqvarnas they do. I think most Stihls use a screw in stud.
Ahhh. Another place to leak. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
That the saw he got from the novice lumberjack channel guy ?
Dunno. I've seen it in videos but don't know where he got it.
@@TheGreasyShopRag he said something about selling him one in one of his vids. 🤷♂️.
Enjoy your videos 👍👍 keep up the good work. Thank you.
Hi Scott, I really that thread chaser set you got; where can I buy that set at?
Mine came off a tool truck but if you google "lang thread chaser" you should find something online.
@@TheGreasyShopRag thanks
I was a bit of a bar stud myself
Lol!
It was probably the case of Bud Light that Chris cut up that broke saw.
Limiting tab. Would a small sliding clamp keep everything in place. Drill thru holes thru the pads. Probably too much , don’t know.
The clamp would probably work. Maybe I made more of it than there really is. I'd like to hear how others do it.
@@TheGreasyShopRag weather finally getting warmer…..I need more saws to work on. I need to go through more problems.
I've got 80ish saws in my garage that don't run. Come and get some.@@steveriggenbach90
@@TheGreasyShopRag do you ship. Lol. Wish I could. Checked market place ….over priced and at least clean with air.
I wish they were complete units. I strip and flip on ebay so most are junk.@@steveriggenbach90
That ain't no milwaukee tool
Nope. In fact I'm upgrading my milwaukee tools at home with some yellow ones. Wanna buy some lightly used brushed tools 🙂
Big dog
Yep!
