1:06:15 Its all good. 👍 Ty ❤ But Myrrh also has a relaxing effect and can be used for meditation. The oil is suitable for skin care, e.g. a for wrinkles, impure skin and scars. In aromatherapy, myrrh can be used for massage or in a diffuser. frankincense/incense wouldn't be a bad idea to add. I'm sure they knew that too. 😊

Well done. I've been listening for quite some time to John lectures. It's mostly he who speaks and never has to refer to open texts in order to recite. Well educated. Knows his history combined with theology. Have to admit, I enjoy the lack of ads. I can fall asleep listening without needing to skip ads. A nice bonus
Matthew's quotes about Nazareth and Nazarene is hotly debated, and there are many other sources that defend and make sense of this position. We should not expect the lecturer to know everything about the full mystery of God, or to lay out every single position in such a short space of time. Don't take everything he says as 'gospel' but do your own research. This has been great for me as his challenges to my belief made me search for the truth, and my faith is not swayed. Many church fathers were aware of some of the discrepancies but they were not swayed ultimately.
The tribe Mug (Mag), the priests of Zoroastrianism, came from Media (modern day Azerbaijan,) were proficient in many fields, such as astrology, medicine, spell, metallurgy . There are many toponyms related to Mugs still exist in Azerbaijan. In the book of Enoch the fallen angel Azazel thought people who lived in this area to all those things (spell, magic, metallurgy, crafts and so on)
The moogooei tribe of Bakhtiari people are their descendants, in their folklores and everyday believes you see the trace of old believes. Mogu were a tribe
Malekyoir could be mix of Hebrew and Persian; Melekh (King in Hebrew) and Yar( friend in Persian) . Keep in mind Shahyar is an actual Persian name that has been popular in Iran since Sassanid era
It's so funny to read so many comments that all think they know better than any other contemporary scholar could possibly know the events that happened over 2000 years ago. While we come up with all the various ways we think of the Magi, how can ANY OF US say or ant as if we KNOW what was what after +2000 years. Just enjoy learning someone else's view about the matter, no matter how different tp you'r own view, celebrate (or discount) the Magi as you set fit, and be within and enveloped by the Heart of our God of Light. Let one another have the views that are theirs, honor their ability to establish those for themselves, and enjoy your own views and what they mean to you. Knowing that you cannot know is more powerful than claiming you know all. And will help keep you humble as we're all should be.
@lost No, you don't know the truth because there's no truth to know. It's ALL myth and legend. In fact it's more likely than not that Jesus, the "Christ" never existed as a real person. Grow up and do a bit more objective research.
Not only did Nazareth give the baby Jesus a town to call home but Nazareth also gave the world one of the greatest Rock groups of the late 1960's and into the 1970's.
A Blessed Christmas Day to Everyone!!! 🙏 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” -John 1:14 “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” -2 Corinthians 9:18 “He’s the King of the Jews He’s the King of Israel He’s the King of Righteousness He’s the King of the Ages He’s the King of Heaven He’s the King of Glory He’s the King of Kings and He is the Lord of Lords Do you know Him? He’s the wellspring of wisdom He’s the doorway of deliverance He’s the pathway of peace He’s the roadway of righteousness He’s the highway of holiness He’s the gateway of glory He’s the master of the mighty He’s the captain of the conquerors He’s the head of the heroes He’s the leader of the legislators He’s the overseer of the overcomers He’s the governor of governors He’s the prince of princes He’s the King of Kings And He’s the Lord of Lords That’s my King Do you know Him?” His Name is Yeshua… Jesus! If you do not know the LORD, please do not wait another moment... “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” -2 Corinthians 6:2 None of us knows how long we have on this earth. The only opportunity we are guaranteed to have is right now... A: Admit you have Sinned “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” -Romans 3:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 6:23 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” -1 John 1:9 It is tough to admit that we are wrong. Even before God, we feel we are basically good, and we would like to think we are never as bad as some... we are ALL sinners and can never be good enough to earn our own way to heaven. Jesus spoke to the scribes and Pharisees saying, “Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?” -Matthew 23:33 They believed that faithfully following rituals and traditions would get them into heaven. We are all like those scribes and Pharisees when we believe we can save ourselves by good works or following religious rituals and traditions. That path takes us to one place only... hell! Please listen, there is a way... The ONLY WAY... B: Believe in Jesus our Savior “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” -John 3:16-17 “So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” -Acts 16:31 “And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the Name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.” -1 John 3:23 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” -Ephesians 2:8-9 Salvation is not complicated. Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” - Mark 10:15 A child simply puts their trust (faith) in their parents protective arms. Likewise, we entrust our life to Jesus our Savior, believing on Him and His finished work on the cross. The Apostle Paul defined the message of the Gospel (good news) like this- “...that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,” - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 Jesus, the perfect, sinless lamb, the Son of God, laid down His life and took the death penalty meant for us, dying in our place (read Isaiah 53:6). He paid the debt we could not pay and redeemed us (bought us back) from the power of sin and death. (read John 1:29 / Galatians 3:13 / Romans 3:25) C: Confess Jesus is Lord and Savior “...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” -Romans 10:9-10 “The LORD is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” -2 Peter 3:9 God fulfilled His promise, sending His one and only Son to die in our place. He has offered us the most precious gift-salvation, the forgiveness of sin, eternal life with Him in heaven. BUT…we must receive that gift. We must confess our sins (read 1 John 1:9 ) and proclaim our faith (belief) in the death, burial and resurrection of God’s only begotten son, our Savior Jesus. Confessing with our mouth requires an outward, public action, not a secret, hidden, timid faith. The Apostle Paul boldly proclaimed his faith so that others could hear and be saved. God’s plan of salvation is freely offered to everyone. If you are not familiar with prayer, it is simply talking to God openly and honestly. Remember, the Bible says we are saved by grace through faith. God sees our heart. We are not saved by simply saying some special words in a formal prayer. We are saved when we reach out by faith, admit our sin, repenting from believing our actions save us to belief in Jesus and His sacrifice for us, confessing Him as our Lord and Savior. Saving faith produces a forever changed life. The Bible is God’s message to us. It’s readily available even online. Please read it. Your death penalty has been paid- you have been pardoned... The choice is yours to accept it or not. We’re all headed to one of two places - heaven or hell. Will you please accept the LORD’s gift of love today? “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” - Luke 15:10
Speak fir yourself because we don’t all find it difficult to admit we’re wrong and we don’t all think we’re good and we (not all of us) definitely don’t think we’re better than others 🤔 are you a narcissist? - Because otherwise why do you find it hard to admit when you’re wrong and why would you ever think you’re better than somebody else? 🤔 it sounds like you’ve definitely got some kind of mental health problem.
I hope you do a talk on the Bahai Faith and it's views and beliefs. Baha'u'llah talks about Zoroaster quite a bit. Lately I've started thinking Zoroaster was the beginning of the Magi.
I used to be a Baha'i, and yes, we were taught that the Magi were Zoroastrian priests, that were following a Zoroastrian prophecy when they followed the star to find the Christ Child. I've never found any historical evidence to support that theory. But in a way it might make some sense. The Persian Empire had conquered the Babylonian Empire, where the Jews had been held captive for 70 years. The Persians released the Jews from captivity, allowing them to return to Israel. They were also monotheistic, being Zoroastrian. Many of the Jews chose to stay, so it's conceivable that the Persians could have been influenced by their religious beliefs. It may very well be that they understood enough of the Hebrew Prophecies about the coming of Messiah, to then follow the Star to where the Christ was.
So weird that they knew. But the Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes, and the 12 did not recognize him until after the miracles. Kinda makes you think. Not related, but all these pastors and prophets today who claim to hear from God--- not a one knew COVID was coming. @@artdanks4846

Hi John. Listened on this morning Wed. Aug. 2nd. Who Was Mary? Very interesting , Amazing how little there is on her. Liked very much. Thank you. Kathy from Ft. Collins, Coo. Congregation
The prophet who spoke about Jesus being a Nazarene was Isaiah (Isaiah 11:1). The Hebrew word for “branch” is “Netzer” which is the root word for Nazareth. Sprout-Town. A Shoot, a Sprout.
People quite frequently today report seeing ufos, whatever they are, and they would have been seeing them frequently in ancient times. And only a ufo would fit the scenario of being able to be followed, not a star. And also the scenario that ufos are explained away as stars or something so as not to be called crazy.
Brilliant video, thanks! Myrrh is the main ingredient in Chrysm, the holy oil used in anointing. It's still used in the UK to anoint new monarchs in the coronation ceremony, this part was considered too holy to be filmed in the 1952 coronation of Queen Elizabeth so it is was screened off. In a literal sense our monarchs are "Christs".
So presumably chrysm or chrism, is etymologially related to Christ. Both related to Greek words for anointing and anointed (of the monarch at the coronation). Which could be an alternative theory why Myrrh was one of the three gifts, rather than that given in the video about anointing the dead.
A small point that sometimes gets lost in discussions - if the Persians had won their wars with the Greeks (Thermopylae, Marathon, etc) they would have overrrun Europe and Zoroastrianism would have spread throughout the continent as the state religion (Zoroastrian cults such as Mithraism were already popular with the Romans). Christianity would have probably never taken hold, certainly not to the extent it did, and Zoroastrianism would have been the major religion today instead of the almost-extinct status it has today. That's how history works - sometimes all it takes is a battle or two for humanity to change and go off in different directions.
The beauty of it not happening that way is that we have examples of how God is not and can search for Who God was/ is before he introduced himself to the small group of Hebrews
Matthew's claim that the messiah was prophesied to be from Nazareth is a midrashic extrapolation from Isaiah 11:1, "shoot from Jesse." "Branch" or "shoot" is "nitser". If you put in other vowels and semi-vowel performatives to NZR you can force out the "Nazareth" interpretation.

If when my son was born, wise men/hermits/princes turned up bearing rare gifts, I would remember it. But Mary tells her son to stop wasting time in the synagogue, and no-one in Nazareth seems to point to the adolescent Jesus and say " hey, that's the dude that those wise men visited." And did the family flee to Egypt, or stay in Bethlehem; can't be both.

He could have seen the star, but not recognize its significance. His astrologers could have seen it, realized what it meant, but were too afraid of Herod to explain it to him.
The most interesting description, In my opinion, of the three wise men is in the novel BEN HUR by Lew Wallace. They are described as hermits, one from Egypt, another from Greece and the third from India, who each had an epiphany which led them to Bethlehem guided by a star...
We are living on a rotating planet. So the idea to follow a star to a village shows that people have no idea of orientation. In reality magoi are persian priests who read the stars as messages from the gods. So if a great king is born under a certain star conjunction they exoect it to hapoen again under the same conjunction dozens of years later. Tgey were a kinf of astrologers with a firm base in the belief that the will of persuan gods is shown in the stars.
Huge omission, It was the Persian, Zoroastrian Empire that liberated the Jews from Babylonian conquest, slavery. Osmosis of Zoroastrian ideas into The Old Testament was not a result of casual encounters with neighboring religions.
There were numerous decentralized copies of the writings of Moses way before the Persians ever liberated the Israelites. They were the only monotheistic religions at the time and that’s why King Cyrus allowed them to return.
@@thegardener8972 Zoroastrianism forbid slavery is why liberated. Never read your theory before. Close to a 1000 years before liberated, Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaton was already monotheistic. Believe he was contemporary of Moses, possibly step brothers. Zoroastrianism predates both of them. Mosaic law, how much was penned by Moses is debated by scholars, and Moses certainly did not author the entire Old Testament.
The Jews in Babylon were not slaves. Ezekiel's story makes that clear. Their lower classes were resettled as farmers along the river. Many of their elites served the royal court of Babylon as elites too. The Babylonians even let the House of David set themselves up as exilarchs, a position they kept well into medieval times. When Zerubabbel, born and raised as a noble in cosmopolitan Babylon, was sent off to rebuild Jerusalem he probably wasn't too happy about it.
Gustav Fechner developed an Avestic Christianity. He wrote a book called the Little Book of Life After Death. He is considered to be a pioneer in psychology and also inspired one of the greatest mathematicians in human history Bernard Riemann.
Interesting that Isaiah 60 actually talks specifically of people from the islands, then mentions Sheba, Kedar, Tarshish of people going to Jerusalem. Isaiah talks quite a bit of these isles of the East. Not sure if scholars just want to ignore this or really don't think of it.
@@robertvidal3935 If you are referring to Isa 60:9, 'the ships of Tarshish', I think it's safe to assume that the city of Tarshish, wherever it was located, was a port city west of Jerusalem.
Bethlehem was a mere village back then. There's no reason to expect Josephus or any other writer to mention the murder of a few dozen, at most, children, especially if Herod did not publicize why he ordered it.
The story of Herod murdering children actually refers to the fact that Herod actually murdered his own sons (by princess Mariamne)because he feared that they and their Jewish mother were plotting to overthrow him.Herod himself was not Jewish but his wife was -of the Jewish royal dynasty of the Hasmonaeans so Herod's sons, having a Jewish mother, would have been more entitled to the throne than Herod himself.

The Idumeans fully converted to Judaism🕎 in the generation before Herod, and were eventually absorbed into the Jewish people leaving no trace. They converted because the Jewish king Hyrcanus conquered them and ordered them to either leave the Land of Israel, or convert to Judaism. So they converted to Judaism🕎, but remained among themselves. Read Josephus' "Antiquities of the Jews," book XIII, chapter IX.
I think this a misunderstanding of Persian policy. Even after 200 years of rule in Bablyon, chaldean religion was still thriving there. Same with Canaanite religion and egyptian religion. U really don't get an empire with a policy of religious exclusivity until the time of the roman Constantine 500 years later.
Zoroaster was a Brahman and came from the Indus valley. Brahman was what the descends of Abraham were called this is confirmed in the last book written by Issac Newton. In the first chapter of Malichi it says everyone except the Jews are offering good sacrifices to the lord. The Gospel of Luke tells us that when Christ was presented at the Temple in accordance to Mosaic Law, when He was 40 days old, Anna and Simeon were in the Temple waiting for him. If they had seen the Messiah, I don't see how they would have remained quiet about it. This would have alerted Herod. I say this happened after the Magi had already met Herod, and the news from Anna and Simeon would have made Herod realize that the Magi had left for home without reporting back to him as he had ordered them to do. So Christ was still an infant when the Magi visited Him.

As far as the people scamming Helena, I do not think that would be a good idea. Considering she was the most powerful woman in the entire world. And I'm sure she had people working for her equivalent to archeologists of the time. Making sure the certain king's graves were actually robbed of their remains because kings weren't buried similarly to a peasant. And if they needed a certain king's remains, I'm sure it was 12345 kings in a row and the fourth king is the one they wanted the remains for so I believe they could very well have the actual king in that big golden sarcophagus.
In order to understand the what the wise men from the East said, you should study and understand the metaphorical aspects of the Eastern language. We have seen his star means we have seen his rise, we have read the Jewish scriptures and followed those prophecies that led us to hear. Not that there was a star ⭐️ and we followed him! About their gifts you should understand that those gifts in those days were commodities. If it was today they probably give him digital currency or a gift card!

All three represent the focuses of religion. They can represent what religion is worth in metaphor. Gold is old and valuable, like religious truth. Frankinsense is beutifying and sense-appealing, like religious ritual. Myrrh is hard/bitter and effective, like religious work. Gold is an old king (should be yellow, lol). Libanos is a young white king. Myrrh is a mid-aged brown king. Yellow, White, and Brown. Truth. Beauty. Work. A story can highlight the point, but obviously a story can also confuse it. 1. Gold is a precious metal which is hardly a weapon (the worst weapon really), so it is used by priests/rich as decoration because it lasts does not tarnish and so the military men do not break down the religious icons etc during times of war (when weapon metals are needed). As such, gold "appeals toward supernatural/eternal reality (aka the world is violence but religion is lasting peace)" Gold is thus tested by fire (purity) and water (density), to reveal it's eternal truth. 2. Frankincense means "true/pure/best incense." But the Greek word used was "Libanos" which means "white" or "Lebanon" and indeed was the name of resin from Boswellia trees spice/incense pain-reliever from the Lebanon area. Such "Lebanese incense" would have been used in religion a lot, especially where people didn't shower and the homeless where allowed entrance. Take that for what you will. As such, white incense "appeals toward making things appealing" Frankincense/Libanos is thus used through burning it as sacrifice to attain something worth in the short-term. The incense was used in burnt sacrifices and obviously in cremations. 3. Myrrh is "bitter" brown colored resin from thorny trees. It could be made into oil used by religion to preserve things like in embalming the dead or oil-pickling (as opposed to vinegar pickling) of food. It could also be used as an incense. It is also a pain reliever. And was a main ingredient in Anointing oil (you anoint the sacrifices so they burn better, and you anoint the High Priest and the King so they "symbolize" that they are "sacrificing" by "serving the people as leaders" ). As such, brown oil "appeals towards making things that are perishable either perish better or last longer depending on the need."
It´s extremely complex, the anonymous author of Matthew wrote decades after Jesus death. Did he guess on behalf of Matthew that this narrative was the correct one. Nobody knew about Jesus when he was born then when he died they realized he was the Son of God, the author knowing that Matthew was a jew who followed the Hebrew Scripture tried to add the tradition into Jesus life. This also happened on Matthew 5:17 (“Do not think that I have come to abolish Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”) Jesus had nothing to do with the Laws he was a transgressor and total liberal, did not wash his hands before eating, did not accept tithe, embrace women, the leper, did not respect the Sabbath,, ate pork. INRI on the cross meaning "Jesus the King of Jews" romans put there because jews asked them to mock Jesus. Matthew pushed Jesus into the Old Testament, no wonder we call today the Religion "Judeo - Christian"
It is more likely that the gold, frankincense, and mir were the required traditional gifts which dispossessed nobles offered to a foreign king as a way to gain peaceful assylum in that ruler's land. That is what stirred confusion over whether Herod's reign was truly appointed by God, since the Jews knew that Herod was appointed as King by authority of Rome, yet these noblemen did not offer him these gifts.

I’m curious why no one makes any connection between the ancient Phoenician “bee kings” priests to Ishtar/ Astarte/ Venus, known as the Essenes, the Gnostics, the Sophists (Sophia is “wisdom” in Greek) rhetoricians of Greece that caused the death of Socrates, could also be of the same group as the “wise men” or “ three kings”, and also the scribes, the lawyers, the sopherim, that Jesus accuses along with the Pharisees as false interpreters of the law, There were 3 sects of Jewish leadership in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus according to Josephus: The Sadducees The Pharisees And the Essenes I believe the Essenes were the perpetuators of the written law, but manipulated the understanding of it through ecumenical councils, that outwardly appeared righteous, but were inwardly greedy for wealth, power, and prestige.

“Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
-2 Corinthians 6:2
None of us knows how long we have on this earth. The only opportunity we are guaranteed to have is right now...
A: Admit you have Sinned
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
-Romans 3:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
-Romans 6:23
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
-1 John 1:9
It is tough to admit that we are wrong. Even before God, we feel we are basically good, and we would like to think we are never as bad as some... we are ALL sinners and can never be good enough to earn our own way to heaven. Jesus spoke to the scribes and Pharisees saying,
“Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?”
-Matthew 23:33
They believed that faithfully following rituals and traditions would get them into heaven. We are all like those scribes and Pharisees when we believe we can save ourselves by good works or following religious rituals and traditions. That path takes us to one place only... hell!
Please listen, there is a way...
The ONLY WAY...
B: Believe in Jesus our Savior
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
-John 3:16-17
“So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
-Acts 16:31
“And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the Name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.”
-1 John 3:23
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” -Ephesians 2:8-9
Salvation is not complicated.
Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”
- Mark 10:15
A child simply puts their trust (faith) in their parents protective arms. Likewise, we entrust our life to Jesus our Savior, believing on Him and His finished work on the cross. The Apostle Paul defined the message of the Gospel (good news) like this-
“...that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,”
- 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Jesus, the perfect, sinless lamb, the Son of God, laid down His life and took the death penalty meant for us, dying in our place (read Isaiah 53:6). He paid the debt we could not pay and redeemed us (bought us back) from the power of sin and death. (read John 1:29 / Galatians 3:13 / Romans 3:25)
C: Confess Jesus is Lord and Savior
“...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
-Romans 10:9-10
“The LORD is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
-2 Peter 3:9
God fulfilled His promise, sending His one and only Son to die in our place.
“Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
- Luke 15:10

Ahhh yes, Bahai: the Illuminati Religion.

Very true, that this is how history works. And fortunately, God is the author of that history.
@@artdanks4846 "God" has nothing to do with this. Stop spewing mythological rubbish.

I say this happened after the Magi had already met Herod, and the news from Anna and Simeon would have made Herod realize that the Magi had left for home without reporting back to him as he had ordered them to do. So Christ was still an infant when the Magi visited Him.
I can’t find in the Bible what your talking about 😢

Was this done during the pandemic?
I think it was done before. They moved to virtual meetups during the pandemic, and those just have him speaking to the monitor, no audience due to social distancing. I think they still do services this way. It's actually a liberal church congregation.

In the bible, a star is always an angel.
😂😂
Both Jesus and Lucifer are called star of the morning in scripture! Stuff I ve read but haven't researched!
Where does it say that?
In order to understand the what the wise men from the East said, you should study and understand the metaphorical aspects of the Eastern language.
We have seen his star means we have seen his rise, we have read the Jewish scriptures and followed those prophecies that led us to hear. Not that there was a star ⭐️ and we followed him!
About their gifts you should understand that those gifts in those days were commodities. If it was today they probably give him digital currency or a gift card!
🔥 Zoroastrians priests honoring Jesus at his birth makes perfect sense.
🕎Judaism teaches that there is NO Devil and what appears to be evil, is actually G-d concealing Himself.
Jesus put himself in opposition to Judaism with his Devil theology.
But the 🔥Zoroastrians advocated him.

The 3 Kings is an old tale. The oldest is the 3 Kings of the Orient: namely the Taoist 3 Philosophers of China, who preceded the Bible by a thousand years. They had a history of roaming the world, and bringing back stories from far-away lands.
Any actual reference or was this what you were told growing up?

Chinese astronomers (and other sources) recorded a solar eclipse at the time of Jesus' death on the cross and concluded that the Son of God sacrificed himself for the salvation of the world, etc. Etc.

Magus or magi is a magician or someone who practices magic, or anything seen as a mystery by the people which would include astrology or even astronomy at the time.
According to ihe Bible how many of the magi were there?
Strange that they are praised when they likely used astrology and divination to determine when and where they should go.

Is that traditionally there are three gifts; the gold, frankincense and myrrh, potentially a theological allusion to the Trinity?
Well said. Typical no 1 picks up on these specific things. GOD b with u
@@luizverdecanna8023 Matthew is a symbolic code name. The gospels accepted into testament by later councils were not traditionally named.
Read Isaiah and it associates the savior/deliverer... The reed that bends but does not break... With the three ritual elements.
It is likely the medieval traditions of three wise men, instead of the unnumbered group in Matthew, were to symbolically cement the Trinity concept by symbolism. There were three gifts.
Three sons of Adam
Three sons of Noah to populate the cleansed by water Earth
God, the Son of Man and The Comforter
European scholarly leaders were also very tied to Socrates and Plato with the Earthly symbolism of the perfect unseen thing. Also the Plato assertion that all men were born evil through their original essence.
Now go read the second book of The Republic about the fate of a essence pious man that appeared in the City.... And what happens to him. A little story/parable from 390bc.

I’m curious why no one makes any connection between the ancient Phoenician “bee kings” priests to Ishtar/ Astarte/ Venus, known as the Essenes, the Gnostics, the Sophists (Sophia is “wisdom” in Greek) rhetoricians of Greece that caused the death of Socrates, could also be of the same group as the “wise men” or “ three kings”, and also the scribes, the lawyers, the sopherim, that Jesus accuses along with the Pharisees as false interpreters of the law,
There were 3 sects of Jewish leadership in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus according to Josephus:
The Sadducees
The Pharisees
And the Essenes
I believe the Essenes were the perpetuators of the written law, but manipulated the understanding of it through ecumenical councils, that outwardly appeared righteous, but were inwardly greedy for wealth, power, and prestige.
