They'll be put on a test run sometime this summer and after all goes well, they should be entering service shortly after that.

Well not necessarily, it’s because those cars have to be inspected before officially being put on New York lines, there are different tracks for different trains, and simply because trains are considered a vehicle meaning they have mileage as well and the MTA simply wanted to preserve as much of that to provide a ever lasting commuter train
