I think most of us are pretty familiar with Mobb Deep, duo out of Queens, New York. But were you aware of another duo with nearly identical stage names, but on the other coast? Havoc and Prodeje were members of the South Central Cartel but broke away to do some work apart from the group. Livin' In a Crime Wave is their debut from 1993. Definitely has that West coast sound, bit of g-funk. I wouldn't call it a classic like The Infamous -- nowhere near as good, but a pretty good album. Doing some quick googling, it seems the West coast duo may have had their names a few years before Havoc and Prodigy of Mobb Deep did! Just a funny coincidence though, huh? I'm sure they were aware of one another to some degree...
I have this video on a VHS that my dad recorded back in the 90’s. It’s a tape of over an hour of 90’s Rap City hits from BET. So glad to find this version of the song here.
