Yo I just found out why I am such a fan Rem's character.
It is because she is one of the few characters that is both sweet in personality, but also transparent/direct with how they feel without being assertive. I really respect this kind of character.
Agreed. Also because she doesnt really remind you of the generic girl protagonist most animes tend to have, but instead looks very much different (in a good way) and evolves very, very much throughout the first season.
What really get's my about REM is that she didn't hide a single feeling from her heart when she talks to Subaru. This is so different from the real japanese person. Being direct about your feelings when you love somebody is what what REM does with Subaru. That is why I like her. She not only admires and loves the guy, she makes him sure of what she feels for him.
The amount she changed from the beginning of the series to now is extraordinary. Amazing character development.
She was doing quite the grind then! It was interesting to watch in her memories. We wonder, could we become the best character if we somehow rapidly change our entire self?

Funny how Rem becomes Subaru’s “second” wife.
My favorite moment isn't in this. My favorite moment is after when Rem tells him all things she knows and loves about him, he says, "All those things were fake. I should know. I know myself better than anyone." And she says, "That's not true! All you know is yourself. What do you know about the Subaru that I see? The one I was just telling you about?" It made me realize that there's more to a person then just their own self image. Something I never really considered. I love this Character so much I can't even talk about her without getting choked up.
It's actually supposed to tell you that the version of Subaru that exists and the one that rem sees aren't the same, I like rem but don't act as if she doesn't idolise Subaru to a creepy extent.

Rem was an amazing supporting role for Subaru, very kind and very sweet. Even during Subaru's worst moments she still wanted to be by his side and help him. She has demon powers which makes her cool and she has sacrificed herself again again even Betelgeuse's brain was trembling.
Rem has a huge fanbase. She won Best Female Character in 2016. So what happens when you make the best female character of a show disappear for a whole season? Exactly, you hurt the brand of the show. No Rem, No Party.

Lol. You simply didn't take into account the fact that for an anime that gained fame for the first season, the fall in the peak of popularity would be absolutely natural. What a sophistry, trying to connect things, the connection of which is minimal and use another phenomenon as an argument for the first. If you'll simply check MAL you'll see, that its absolutely natural for anime that hyped for 1st seasons lose 30+% of popularity. Simply compare number of people rating 1st season of AOT and 2nd. Or compare number of people rating for KNY 1st and 2nd seasons. These two simple examples openly show that the decline in popularity is a natural process and its even independent of quality of season, not even talking about small things like concrete characters.
