Very good videos, please continue to show us more, I love the old Quadra, Zenoah and US engines. Another important point, please put a higher chair for your cat, he needs to supervise and we need to see his beauty ... I love cats.
That's Trixie... She just loves being there when I get started on shooting. She seems to get bored and wander off after a bit. I'm paying too much attention to the camera and not here.
Hi Dan. Was wondering if you had a link to where to get those fuel pump diaphragm/gaskets for the walbro carbs? BTW, I learned the hard way to run the engine and tank out of fuel to lessen the gummy grim and oil that kills all rubber when not in use.
bennettbuilt.com/index.html They have carb parts, and complete rebuild kits for many models of the Zenoah and Quadra family of engines, which all use Walbros. You may also be able to find those parts at a small engine or chain saw shop as well. Those dang carbs are used on everything. Hey while I have you, I noticed you had a question last week about the sanding blocks I use. I got an email notice about your question, but it wasn't in the video comments so I couldn't respond. Didn't want you to think I was snubbing you. Those blocks were from Great Planes, called EZ sander, and I cannot find them now. I know that GP, and its parent company Hobbico went belly up however some of their products are still being made under the Horizon Hobbies empire. However check these out. www.fibreglast.com/product/Perma-Grit_Sanding_Blocks?gclid=CjwKCAjw9MuCBhBUEiwAbDZ-7mtWIQcs9a13SdoqD0kOmx2N80C466j56VndPqarxg16OiByCJ6bdxoCGL0QAvD_BwE They look very similar, and provide a nice grip to sand with. I have not ordered from them but the product they offer looks like it would work well.
@@Capgains7777 Thanks Dan. Those look very nice as well. I will have to try one. BTW, I took down my question before you could answer it because on your very next video I paused it and was able to read the name of the block. LOL! But thanks for getting back to me especially on the carb diaphragm as I have a gas engine I will be restoring. Can I just say thank you so much for making this video series! I am immensely enjoying every video and learning the lost art of building balsa airplanes again. Well, maybe in the last year or two its making an extreme comeback! Yikes! I see some balsa plane kits on ebay that were previously selling for $100 now being bid up to $500! Oh My Gosh!!! So I have a shop cat as well who gets into, knocks things down, and breaks everything. Need to watch her closely! Her name is Calamity! My only hope down the road is you might have the time and the motivation to build something a little more complicated as it seems like most my kits I own are a bit overwhelming when trying to read through the prints. Thanks again for doing these videos, my favorite on youtube now!
I’ve never converted one myself. I always knew a guy, or found conversions online. I would suspect that there are places you can buy the components to do a conversion like the prop hub adapter, the timing pickup and the boom box.
@@Capgains7777 ohk...been watching these videos for a while and wanting to build 1...what are the other best engines to use on a scale plane as this 1 that you're building????
Great video ON ENGINES. wish modelers would look in to this kind of engines. Been rc flying for 40 odd years and apart from my first engines (IE) GLOW ENGINES IV ONLY EVER BOUGHT 2 PURPOSELY BUILT R/c petrol engines. Thay have all been ex chainsaw engines, garden strimmers. And even second hand chain saw engines.off the car boot sales for as little as £30 to £40 .At a fraction of the price of a purpose built r/c engine . AND IF A CHAINSAW ENGINE CAN CUT DOWN TREES ALL DAY. THEN FLYING OUR LARGE AIRCRAFT THEN ITS A VACATION FOR THESES ENGINES. GREAT ADVICE FOR NEW COMMERS TO OUR PETROL MODELERS. Don't WAIST your money you can spend it on other R/C ACCESSORIES. 👍
Something funny..I am a mechanic, I've had schooling and certifications and did it for a living for years..and I love mechanical engineering. My left arm is sleeved in big steam punk gears and a boiler and piston and such all running a clock..but on my planes I actually really like electric now. You don't get the sounds and smells but you get constant performance and low maintenance. Weight doesn't change during flight and you don't have to be constantly buying different fuels and plugs for different planes. And with the new brushless motors your weight to power ratios are pretty much dead even with ic engines. It wont be long till electric motors have more power than a chemically powered engines of equivalent weight..
Gas engine, and electrics are the only thing that I want to build at this point. I sold off all of my glow engines and equipment a few years ago. Besides being an expensive fuel, it is messy and smelly over time on anything the oil in it touches. Not to mention, no matter how well you cover an airframe, the oil will eventually penetrant the seams, and soak the wood underneath. Right now I am looking at converting a few past glow planes over to electric, and a few others to the newer small gas engines. The foamie is a great concept, but I wanna have some wood and covering models... they can be either gas or electric.
Hallo is not difficult but it is what iwant to ask That is very difficult with the terms that you are using But i try to do my best And thank you to answers When are you going to test the plane or when do you think to finish the plane greetings
Dan , love your videos. I’m asking if you would consider selling the US 41,Quad or what ever they called it. I watched you video and realized you went to another motor. Just would like to purchase it if you would let it go.
I'll think about it Greg, I might have a job for that heavy engine on an up coming project that I'm either going to build, or trade away for something else.
I have never converted an engine over. I have always bought one that was either commercially available, or found someone that was doing it as a side business online. I looked on UA-cam for a vid on how to do it, most of them are old and I don't know if they reveal where to get the parts. Many of the places that were making the conversions and parts have just disappeared. If you have access to an airplane swap meet, that might be your best shot.
Salvatore my friend, you have sent me several comments, and I like that very much, but I can't understand what you are saying. If you are using a translator, it is not work well. Keep trying, I am happy to help if I can, airplane building is an international language and passion.
Hallo If you dont have a plan of a plane Can we rebuilding the plane I have a plane without a plan And i want to rebuilding it but without the plans it is very difficult
@@salvatorealessandrino945 yes, if you are rebuilding a plane, you don't necessarily need the plans. In many cases you can see what parts you might need to make and build them in. The main thing is to build straight reinforce or replace broken parts. CA glue is your best friend when tacking parts together when you don't have them on the table. Thank you for responding!!!!!
I am not sure. When you compare a 26 to a 30cc motor, my guess would be your power is going to be marginal. You could strive to build super light airframe which may sacrifice strength. Where you fly can dictate how much motor you need. If you fly at sea level the engine will have a better output than at 4000 ft where I live. So I really need to have more displacement just to offset the lack of oxygen at this altitude. All I know is that Ryan designed this plane around a 30cc engine... And like my first episode revealed, I had no fun flying the UltraStick with not enough power. So at 26cc... You are experimenting. I'd always rather have power in reserve than not enough.
@@Capgains7777 So how mutch power we need. I'm planning to put in this DLE 30 engine 3,7HP/8500rpm, but i don't know it have enough power and it isn't too havy (engine 910g, ignition unit 120g and muffler 60g)
