My father had been battling cancer for three years. Eventually his kidneys failed and was put into hospice in his home. I got a call and flew back home immediately. When I got there he was conscious and aware of certain things. I remember telling him I loved him and him responding as best he could. I remember showing him Chad, he had always said he loved his music. He always said, "it was dark, but had a positive outlook." I had put on this live performance and watched him listen to it while using his strength to raise his arms. He seemed to really like Broken Bell. The following Saturday he passed. It took three hours for someone to come and remove in from my moms home. I had played "Broken Bell" while sitting next to him after he passed. Maybe I have taken "Broken Bell" in the literal sense, but that song has incredibly affected me. Chad I love everything that you do, I really hope "Broken Bell" is on your new album. I miss my dad dearly, and will always remember that moment. Thank you for everything that you do.
I got to see Chad play in my hometown about 8 or so years ago, it was in a children's museum, where all the exhibits were interactive, there was a cave section and a rainforest section, and in the main area where he performed there was a giant whale skeleton hanging above us from the ceiling! It was a magical night that is still one of my favorite outings. I could tell then and now that he's shy and would much rather write and record at home with his family than tour endlessly in front of hundred and thousands of strangers. I feel that and I hope he continues to do whatever brings him joy
His music is fucking brilliant and it's a travesty nobody in my country in England seems to of heard of him if he'd been born in a different decade he'd of gotten the recognition he deserves.
The type of music that you feel. You can listen to all music but only good music makes you feel. Sitting here crying because his music is simply beautiful in sound, sight and soul

Time and time again, my favourite artists are the least celebrated. Only 4 thousand views and 67 likes for Canada's best song writer? WTF is wrong with people.
Well, this dude is described as a notorious homebody. That makes me like him more, but it also makes me understand why he's not more popular. Who becomes popular has more to do with networking than what is objectively good or bad. ;)
Wow !Thanx for uploading this. And what a tremendous shooting of the live gig that is ! Congratulations to the team. I feel so grateful of having seen Chad performed live with a full band, back then in Berlin @Festsaal Kreuzberg, around 2011. What a gig .....every song was striking all mental chords !! What a gifted musician!!!!!!!
Does anyone know where that pad sound is coming from? I assumed it was the key board but then the other player left the stage i thought I could still hear it.

This changes my life every time I watch it. I'm 3000 years old now.
It feels like a time travel. The travel is your life. That's why i always get different reactions each time i go back to the video.
I don’t know how many times I have watched this. ❤
I love Chad, Willow Tree especially is a song for the ages.
Everytime im in my lows Chad helps me out in my time of need especially burning candle ❤️
His music is fucking brilliant and it's a travesty nobody in my country in England seems to of heard of him if he'd been born in a different decade he'd of gotten the recognition he deserves.
Tell that too Nick Drake. Sometimes people just don't get the recognition they deserve, though I think Chad has a respectable following.
Peace on the rise is awesome

Chad seems like a genuinely good person.
I don't care I'm here for his music.
Agreed. He just feels naturally like a good being.
He spent a day pissing in sinks in Manchester
Hangman's Son is possibly my favorite song of all time. So fucking real.

+Patrick McMillan Any idea what Pine and Clover and Broken Bell are from? I can't find anything about these songs anywhere!
+downwithlynch I think they're new! I wouldn't be surprised to see them make an appearance on whatever he puts out next.
+James Lee Thanks! Would love to hear studio versions of both, but if that doesn't happen this will definitely do :)
Thanks for putting that together!
Chad's new album (Light Information) has both these tracks on it, and it's an excellent album!
saw him play at the end of the road festival in england - brilliant performance - took me somewhere else
if only i knew about him a year ago i would have gone to this concert
It was awesome. The Constantines played too :)
He is the best person.
Beautiful musician, animator, man. I really enjoy his music. Sorry for my bad english, i'm from russia.
Don't excuse for your English. An American speking Russian is surely worse :D
Your English is better than most Americans.
Good English, but we all speak VanGaalen here.
hi there, I'm from Russia, too. nice to know I'm not the only one here listening to Chad's wonderful music

Careful what you wish for.
he's not drake..bleh i need mouthwash just saying that name
Well, this dude is described as a notorious homebody. That makes me like him more, but it also makes me understand why he's not more popular. Who becomes popular has more to do with networking than what is objectively good or bad. ;)
You will find that all of the good music is least celebrated.

Fuck, just imagining seeing him playing in Kreuzberg makes me go crazy.
This is incredible. Thank you so much for uploading this
Songwriter, Multi-Instrumentalist, Producer, Animator, Dad.
Is there anything this man can't do?
This is amazing. Thank you.

“I wonder what was taken, besides a scar?”
Peace on the rise
such a good song
come to oregon
He's in Portland at the Doug Fir on Sunday November 12th. See you there dude.
Cans somebody please help me tab out Pine and Clover? Cannot figure out the tuning or the chords
Hey man, start off with a DADF#AD tuning. (It's the same for Hangman's son as well).
tried that but it is not quite right
Brenden Finnerty - sorry think it might be another half step. C# G# C# F G# C# (closest I've got.)
Does anyone know where that pad sound is coming from? I assumed it was the key board but then the other player left the stage i thought I could still hear it.
If you're referring to the drum pad hes playing a snare and kick with pedals and hitting a cymbal with a stick attached to the head of his guitar.
Does anyone have any clue as to what tuning he's in? It's so foreign to my ears but sounds so good!
I've heard he tunes his guitar to his own tuning. So I don't know, I guess you'd need to figure it out by ear.
Standard.
he has a bunch of songs in open C: CGCEGC
See above comment for my suggestion but I think for some: C# G# C# F G# C#
2020
is he just in drop d for weird love?
Is Pine and Clover and Broken Bell on any of his albums? I've never heard them before.
