Is it a Power Metal renaissance this year or something? Elvenking, Edguy, Sonata Arctica and Brainstorm all sudenly wakes up from a coma and releases quality albums.

Got briefly into powermetal maybe three years ago and fell full-force back into it last month and I'm so happy I did. Elvenking, Powerwolf, Sabaton, Amaranthe, Blackbriar, Dragonforce, Nightwish, Old Gods of Asguard, Alestorm, Gloryhammer-- All such amazing bands (and I know some are more *comedy* power metal, but they're still awesome. I think we as a society owe a lot to power metal bands, from the pirate metallers to the viking metallers and fantasy and cowboy and symphonic and every other incredible subgenre ❤❤❤). (Also if anyone reading this has additional rec's, lmk?? 👀) Love you ELVENKING!!!

+David Schell I'm disagree with Blind Guardian, Beyond the Red Mirror is a boring album, I waited too long to hear something more like Follow the Blind.
Agree Europe know it metal and fuck that Europe just knows it Rock N' Roll and we know what best. It could be Death, Black, heavy metal, power, pagan, folk metal, Glam rock, Sleaze rock, Hair metal we know what is best , USA just knows about the Deathcore, Crunk shit, Screamo and Trash Stuff.
I love how the lyrics reference a lot of the older songs and albums, especially "Pagan Purity". Very fitting for such an amazing return to form. Not that I didn't enjoy "Red Silent Tides" and "Era" but "The Pagan Manifesto" is an absolute masterpiece.

European bands are of a different breed
Last time I listened to these guys was "Heathenreel" and "Wyrd". I thought they had a new singer but it's the same guy. Kinda unbelievable how much they've changed, but at the same time, the production is as much improved as I expected and the music is great.
Well, the album Wyrd had a different singer than Damna. For Hearthenreel (and the rest of the albums, apart from Wyrd) Damna was the singer, but he left for health issues (I believe?) before coming back after Wyrd.
+iggyking6 No he left to form another band with the female singer Whisperwind who did female vocals on the song "Seasonspeach". The new project was called "Leprechaun", which didn't get far except for one rare demo called "The Ultimate Dance".

My favourite band. Every album is a kind of masterpiece. In particular this one and the first, heathenreel. But also the others are incredible works.
I'm sorry, but no one has any right whatsoever to complain about this album. From what I've seen, Heathenreel is often considered their best work, along with Wyrd. And with their more recent stuff (Era and Red Silent Tides), I saw many people complain that they were relatively weak compared to their old stuff.
But after listening to a portion of The Pagan Manifesto, I can safely say that this is Elvenking with their good old folk sound again, and have created powerful songs on this album. So yeah, to those of you who were "disappointed" by this, or found this stuff "boring," then all I can say is that there is no pleasing you assholes. And I know that there are some people out there who will ignore the band's effort to bring back the sound everyone seemed to love, and simply put the album down for reasons that will most likely be petty. Those kinds of people can go die in a fire.

It is definitely a great comeback album. An awesome album in general as well. 2014 has been a great year for metal! so many great metal albums, including freedom call's comeback album.

there's always one "elitist" who thinks that everyone is copying the band that is best known in the genre... genreally things do sound similar if it's from the same (or a similar) genre (depending on your own perception) but that doesn't mean that they are stealing ideas.

I've been mishearing the lyrics since 2016. My misheard lyrics goes: "Six packs one of a kind! " I've been cringing on that part thinking the band loves to see elven six pack abs, but it turns out the lyrics says, "Six bards". Love this song!
I like them more when they put more folk in their songs, but this is a very good single!
