As more time has passed, I must say that Locust Abortion Technician is my favorite by them. Just such a brilliantly strange LP. Don’t you worry, us young kids will keep the band alive
DDDDaddy, wwwhat does regret mean? Well son, the thing about regret is that it’s better to regret something you have done than something you haven’t done…and by the way…when you see your mom…tell her SATAN!!!SATAN!!!SATAN!!!!
Independent Worm Saloon was Produced by John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)...this was a big deal for me as a fan who bought every recording I could. Electric Larryland was the beginning of the end for me...I really love all the 80s stuff.. Locust Abortion Technician,Hairway to Steven, Rembrandt pussyhorse, Psychic Powerless..and The very first EP..Pee Pee the Sailor or "Brown Reason to Live"... It's something you have to listen to over and over to "get it"...
Wow I never knew that info about John Paul Jones, that’s wild! As, I’ve grown more and more into their discography, I also find myself enjoying their earlier material too. Such a versatile group.
@@ForeverSpinning Also Gibby Haynes dad was Mr.Pepermint (the Mr.Rogers of the South) he had a syndicated children's show called "Peppermint Place" I believe..His name was Jerry Haynes,he was also a character actor who has a long list of TV shows and B movies he performed in...it's worth a Google search, I know he was the FIRST person in the world to report on the Kennedy Association( He worked at a TV station in Dallas)crazy small world...
I discovered them around 1990. Damn they were great. Used to get high and drop acid to them a lot. Locust Abortion Technician is wild. Double Live is great too
Hearing Pepper on Umbrella Academy was my intro to Butthole Surfers. Jingle Of A Dogs Collar and Cough Syrup are some of my favorite Butthole Surfers songs L take
Hybrid, favorite BS song, so much so that I put on my current youtube channel. I always wondered the lore behind that one and why I never saw it under any big release.
Electric Larryland is where they jumped the shark. If you recommend it to people as their first exposure to the group, they might like IT, but that doesn't give them any inkling of what their earlier stuff... the real stuff... sounded like. It's a blind alley.
I never thought of it like that before, but you're completely right. I'll have to take that into consideration with all of the other bands I plan to cover.
@@ForeverSpinning To be fair you couldn't possibly know if you weren't listening to them when it came out. I remember buying it when it did & thinking "really?". I thought Independent was a shift, still embraced it because even as different as it was to their prior stuff it was still a great album. Larryland was them lacking the sonic chaos that made them who they were, trying to bring them to the mainstream, a place they had no place in, & a bitter disappointment to fans.
Nice intro to Butthole Surfers! I've been doing these music tournaments with my friends and started a channel about it this year. We're almost halfway through the Butthole Surfers tournament right now. I swear I have to be the only person on the internet who has made a video on Beat the Press. Subbed to your channel! Thanks for the content!
@@ForeverSpinning Thanks! I made sure to sub to your channel too, cuz I totally dig those short introductions to bands that might be harder to get into. I leave a link to the brackets we're working on in every vid, so make sure to check it out if you wanna see how your faves are doing!
Wow. You cherry-picked the singles from Electriclarryland, but didn't even mention truly excellent cuts like 'Thermador," "The Lord Is A Monkey" and "My Brother's Wife." The beginning of Locust Abortion Technician and it's first cut, "Sweat Loaf" doesn't begin with the word "Satan," it opens with with the words, "Daddy? What does regret mean?" There is a lot more to the Butthole Surfers than you mentioned here -- there's more to them on the songs you DID mention than you talked about here. Did you actually listen to the records, or just scan them?
It seems the album unites us old BH Surfers fans and the kids is Locust Abortion Technician.
As more time has passed, I must say that Locust Abortion Technician is my favorite by them. Just such a brilliantly strange LP. Don’t you worry, us young kids will keep the band alive
as a teen, i think either locust or hairway to steven is the best.
Locust Abortion Technician is the eye of the storm …. greatest album ever
it’s so damn good!
And totally unique
That's my opinion 👍
For April fools, you should do a So You’re Interested In Nickelback
This is a fantastic idea
22 going on 23
Boom!!!
Listening to them since '85. Everything up to and including halfway is great. Psychic was my first purchase, so that remains my favorite.
can’t go wrong with these dudes! every project has something great to offer
Sweet loaf doesn't start with silence on my copy it's a father talking to his son and says "tell your mother I said....SATAN"
DDDDaddy, wwwhat does regret mean?

Started listening just last year, became my favourite band.
Wow, I've been into them since 1982?! 1st saw em in 1984, last witnessed em new years eve 2015!
Props for having the Shrimp Sessions hanging there!
Hell yea! I had to cop it as soon as it came out

“daDdy, what does regret mean?”

Discovered them back in the summer of ‘22 and they have easily become my favorite band
Such an incredible group. Interesting songwriting, insane lyrics, and just a great vibe about them. Im glad you dig em!
My favorite is their debut Psychic...Powerless...Another Man's Sac
Hell yeah! It's the most unhinged rock album ever!
Butthole surfers got me into metal.
Its their fault I'm listening to the heaviest stuff ever now
props for being able to say 'I saw an x ray of a girl passing gas' and 'Hairway to Steven' without even the faintest trace of a smile xD
Great video but I would never recommend Electriclarryland to anyone
Why not? It’s pretty much just a grungy alternative rock album with quirky humor. It’s not like Locust Abortion Technician or anything 😂
Hey, Lord is a Monkey is an *awesome* song.
Cough syrup is awesome
Buying the single of Pepper, which I really dig, was my introduction to the band. EL is a great record
Hearing Pepper on Umbrella Academy was my intro to Butthole Surfers. Jingle Of A Dogs Collar and Cough Syrup are some of my favorite Butthole Surfers songs L take
Piouhgd is a great tripped out album, Hurdy Gurdy man is worth a listen
I’m going down to Florida and I’m going to bowl me a perfect game.
This is one of my favourite underrated bands!
Birds is such a great opener.
Their unreleased song Hybrid, is really awesome and its a shame that it was literally going to be released twice and then canceled both times.
Damn I never heard that track before. I really like this group, I just don’t know all of their history (if that wasn’t obvious already lol)
Yeah I found completely by accident on UA-cam once. It’s a nice blend of a good melody and weirdness.
Hybrid, favorite BS song, so much so that I put on my current youtube channel. I always wondered the lore behind that one and why I never saw it under any big release.
Boiled Dove, Valuable Charcoal, Nee Nee, and White Dumb Ugly and Poor should have been on Humpty Dumpty LSD IMO.
As well as pottery and hybrid.
The surfers hail from Austin, not San Antonio.

you should do a video on sweet trip!
Just found your channel, super cool videos!
Failed to mention “Sweat Loaf” was their take on “Sweet Leaf” (by Back Sabbath.)
Don’t know if he’s aware?
cool stuff
I love The Butthole Surfers. Saw them live loads of times in the 80's. And yes... the gigs were fucking mental 😀
so jealous!
@@ForeverSpinning I don't know what to say to that Spinning mate. Don't be jealous. Just enjoy 😀
shoudl definitely do J Dilla
Wormhole saloon is a good listen. Rembrandt is waaay out there. Saloon is closest butthole your gonna get to normal
I think these videos could benefit from some background music

you should do lausse the cat 😄
Ok... I've seen enough. I mean... Butthole Surfers?!??? No way this is a real band!! I think you are just messing with us. Unsubscribing.
Your brain is putty and I will mold it in my image. Resistance is futile.
Yeah they’re a group out of San Antonio
Fucking millenials. BHS will break you, stay away cupcake.
@@LAYG0 gottem dude
Don't listen to this punk KID every song off Psychic Powerless Another Man's Sac is GREAT! Lady Sniff & Cherub......BOY bring me my bacon
