I just would like to note that this is not Disney making these. 20th Century Fox currently still owns physical distribution rights to all the films. They permanently have the rights to A New Hope and own the rights for the rest up until 2020. Disney owns digital rights for all but the original though they have struck a deal with Fox to allow A New Hope to be included in the Digital Movie collection.
I haven't bought any star wars in blu ray yet so I am definitely getting this set. The stormtrooper on the cover is forsure a head scratcher but for some reason I really like the way it looks! It would have made a lot of sense to put the emperor on empire strikes back and luke on return of the jedi. Luke would look badass is he had a green lightsaber glow on his face on the steelbook that would look NICE

I was actually glad the first six films were released individually like this. I don't care much for Episodes I and II, and most of the special features are things I've known forever. It was also awesome to get The Force Awakens as a Steelbook, to go with the other films.
I got the steelbooks yesterday, and I agreed with the Empire Strikes Back artwork, HOWEVER, after unpacking it, it is actually the nicest looking one of the lot, it has a gold tint and it looks amazing! Was so surprised. I don't know personally who else could've gone on RotJ other than Palpatine, unless they did Luke, but the them seems to be here the unique looking characters, rather than humans.
Although A New Hope and Return of the Jedi are my personal favourites, I will probably just buy The Empire Strikes Back. It's the least altered of the original trilogy, and is still LOVE it.

Here's how I would have done it: Ep 1 Darth Maul-keep it the same plus DM kicks ass and is argualbly the only redeeming quality of the film Ep 2 Jango Fett-the clone army is based off of him Ep 3 Obi Wan-plays a big role in the film and at this point we need a "good guy" for balance Ep 4 Luke Skywalker-the film is mainly about him and his character is easily big enough in the series to warrant a cover EP 5 Darth Vader because the film focuses alot on him finding Luke and trying to turn him to the dark side Ep 6 Han Solo & Chewie because they kick ass on Endor and you can't have a boxart set without them! 3 good character covers and 3 bad ones, perfectly balanced.
If they were going for a "darkside"look, then why ruin it by putting Yoda on ep 2? better with a clone trooper or Jango Fett/count Dooku? Also.... I would have switch the stormtrooper and Darth Vader. Makes more sence

so I looked at episode 6 steelbook today and it says co stars David Prowes. I got a bit excited to see old ghost Anakin. honestly that change and han shooting after greedo were the only changes that upset me.
Episode 4 they should put Ben Kenobi on 4 With a blue light saber Darth Vader in Empire strikes back with a red light saber and Luke Skywalker on return of the Jedi with his Green light saber that will make sense.
Disney should make the effort and actual rerelease each film individually as a two-disc set. which includes all the bonus material for each indivual film (essentially each bonus dvd from way back when plus the additional material from the 2011 release) and via seamless branching give us all the essential versions of each film or at least make a deal with harpy for the despecialized edition and put the theatrical cut and 2011 version of each OT movie on the disc. If that were the contents of the steelbooks and if the steelbooks ha the original movie cover on the front instead of the back, this would be a perfect rerelase in light of TFA and a great encouragement for me to rebuy those films again. But as it is now... casual viewers have a chance to get the OT in decent pckaging, but it's really a bit half assed and I'm pretty sure next year (40th anniversary) we might get some great new rereleases, maybe even of the theatrical cuts of the OT.

You summed up the worlds feelings on these in under five minutes. The character choices are so poor for the prequels becuase there is no defined 'main characters' in that trilogy. Ones of its biggest issues. Even Rebels has a solid team of 6 to focus on. That fucking Carbonite Han cover mock up though? Thats the fucking business!!!

The front cover art is honestly pretty disappointing compared to the back cover art which is honestly amazing! I've only preordered the original three movies and their back cover art is incredible - just wish they did them the other way around 😂

the only one I bought was revenge of the sith , because I already own the original trilogy on blu ray and imho rots is the only prequel u need to see.
