UNDER CONTRACT!!
TAKTSANG BIG SUR is a temple of a home at the very epicenter of the temple of nature that is Big Sur. Resting on a 9.5 acre private promontory of land jutting out from the very center of Big Sur’s majestic coast, this home of glass, stone, wood and concrete offers continuous mind blowing views both up and down Big Sur’s most dramatic and beautiful stretch of coastline.
Inspired by a monastery high in the Himalayas of Bhutan, eclectic creative Richard Clements originally built the structure intending for it to become the most extraordinary hotel lobby on the planet. When a hotel did not materialize, renowned Big Sur architect Mickey Muennig oversaw an extensive remodel in the 1990’s which made the house into the full fledged residence it is today.
Constructed in 1970, the home’s “great room” is anchored by massive concrete angled pillars rising from the thick radiant heated concrete floor between them. Rising from the living room floor is a massive two story stone fireplace with an open perimeter loft and glass pyramid ceiling portal that feels as much a piece of sculpture as it is a geo-technical marvel. Here, on either level of the glassed in great room, south coast sunrises and horizon sunsets could lead to stargazing from bed through the glass ceiling, waking up to the breathing of whales, watching condors soar by the windows, and bathing in the pure spring water which flows into the house, on any given day.
Upstairs, the open kitchen is centered around a wood burning stone fireplace and a family table from which one again may look up or down the the Big Sur coastline, depending on which side of the table one chooses. All of the modern appliances serve the kitchen although their placement is so subtle as to not be noticed. This of course makes perfect sense when the kitchen has views of this caliber.
Walking north from the kitchen through a glass lines hallway, one enters Muennig’s master wing. Floor to ceiling glass and windows make up the ocean facing walls, complimented by a concrete fireplace and sunken tub centerpiece in front of them. A walk-in steam shower highlights the black stone double vanity bathroom, while the opposite corner of the bedroom which touches the mountain has been transformed by skilled stone masons into a meditation cave, which can double as a movie theater. Outside, decks and patios and terraces and paths lead through beautifully landscaped gardens to even more unbelievable views…on the way to the hot tub, the outdoor shower, or the nearly one acre flat upper parcel with its ocean facing amphitheater, gorgeous sculpture gardens, and potential building site should additional square footage be required.
Welcome to Taktsang Big Sur.
Please note that the property being sold consists of 3 separate and contiguous parcels which together comprise approximately 9.5 acres. The three Monterey County Tax Assessor Parcel Numbers are: 420-221-022, 420-221-029, and 420-221-023.

Everyone involved in dreaming, designing and building this house into reality has to be so proud. I’m just awestruck by the beauty !
The person who filmed this is terrific. They documented the beauty of this place to perfection.
filmed? They are pictures put togheder
It's stunning, but hard to enjoy when each frame lasts an average of 3 seconds, if you're lucky.....simply double or triple that, I could sit through a 10 minute video of this.
@@geoms6263 Which is what films are.
@@Stitsel In a perfect world they'd have a longer version for super fans. lol
very lucky people to be able to live in a home like this,
An amazing piece of architecture that truly takes advantage of its beautiful surroundings. Every room has its own private vista. A beautiful use of materials that age and blend with the landscape.
Wow! I remember this home when taking a side trip to Big Sur from one of our Tahoe ski trips. It is truly to me the most desirable home I have ever seen (and that was from the road!) Seeing the videos just confirms it!
Yes, this truly using the mind of the architect ( amazingly creative and an exquisite work of art).
That’s a LONG side trip from Tahoe. Unless you live in San Luis Obisbo
@@OhNoNotAgain42 I'm from FL and after skiing, I wanted to specifically take a side trip to Big Sur and down the coast since I had never drove any of the CA coast.
@@cruisingal2 most beautiful drive I’ve ever taken anywhere on the planet
if you can see it from the road, it means the house location is too close to the road, unless you like the noise and pollution
My favorite of all places.
What a truly outstanding residence. The design/build is complemented by the amazing site. 👏
A spectacular sanctuary.
Magical.❤❤❤
This is special x 100!!❤ it!
A dream house indeed...!
Unique and very lovely!
Awwww PERFECT! Sooo Perfect.
My dream home, and 9 acres!! So it can be built out to be a retirement home/retreat for me and my family & friends.
❤😍 spectacular 😍 ❤
Wow what a beautiful home and that master bedroom is my dream bedroom..this house is a work of art and as a professional artist I’d know!
Wow! Beautiful structure. Taktsang means "tiger's lair" which (I presume) comes from the Tibetan monastery name. Very few houses on this incredible stretch of coastline and none so deserving to be there, truly a beautiful place to meditate.
Thanks for the info!
If you've spent any time at all in Big Sur, you know you don't need to meditate there, either. Just being there is a huge exhale of tension into blissful relaxation as the slow pace and natural beauty envelope you...
Stunningly precarious😊
Spectacular
So so beautiful.
magical....
Taktsang, echos of a long-gone era only the very rich can afford to remember.
Yup
Taktsang means Tiger's Nest.
Amazing...
This is my dream house. 💖
Wow!!!
Simply peace 💐
this house is amazing!
Gorgeous 😂🎉THANK YOU 😊
Very nice 🤩
I haven’t been to Big Sur for about ten years. This home is simply elegant and precious.
The cool thing about Big Sur is that they don't allow much (or any) development there so it's always the same (more or less). My family has gone camping there since I was a kid (in my 30s now). It's truly a magical place for trails, hikes, the ocean, etc.
@@RandomRabbit007 Lovely. I can almost smell the trees from here. (Orange County).
I know what you mean haha. Man those redwoods have such an amazing smell. I cant wait to get back to Big Sur!@@KohalaLover
Wish we had a guided a tour, learn more about the home and it’s build.
I love it. ❤❤❤
Nice but can they get Domino’s delivery there ???
If I win the lottery definitely buying this and offer it to people for weddings as cheap as wedgewood for venue.
That is the most beautiful setting and the most terrifying. Rocks cleave all the time, slides happen often in CA, earthquakes are a reality. There is no way I would live there.
A stunning home. I would desperately hope the contractors / architects did a thorough and accurate geological and seismic assessment prior to construction.
i would not rest for those reasons
you couldn't pay me to live on a cliff edge
Almost perfect.
wow
Wondered what this house looked like when driving by. Insane price.
For all you people worried about it falling in the ocean and erosion. Yeah that stuff happens but this house was built in 1970. I guess if you're worried about over hundreds of years, but it's proven it is soundly built.
Would literally pack up and move there tomorrow and never leave.
❤
Will they take $24,999,999 for it? Nice house/location and nicely presented
I would NEVER put my bed facing away from the Pacific Ocean and that view.
Why??
Great point. My bed is elevated, I open my eyes & I can see the surf
@@martinginsburg7222Exactly. That's why we want to live along the coast; to see that Beautiful Ocean. The MILLION DOLLAR VIEW.
My thought too…unless you just have soooo many spots to enjoy it you may take it for granted.
This is a blank check build, I have never seen anything quite like it before.
It reminds me of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Mrs. Charles Walker House in Carmel.
This home looks familiar in many movies. One of them is from Basic Instinct , I believe.
Cancel homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of hate and discrimination!
Shame on you! You're not welcome here!
@@pongop Go bite down on pillow , you fruity boy lol.
@@pongop I cant stand you alphabets weirdos cult.
Go w/ video footage only, the photos that are interspersed are distracting and mar the presentation of the property.
I don’t understand why anyone who is in a position to own property like that would ever want to sell it.
Maybe the original owner died and has no heirs to pass it on. Or some super-rich folks from abroad who came to realize they hardly spend time at this place.
cool house. please re-edit without lame, blurry stills!
Not bad for $25,000,000 😊
Howmuchyawanforit?
Set & setting does not get better than this. Jealous
That house is so gonna be in the water before long
Promise
i feel like no homes should be built on any coastline unless it is accessible to the public
I would like to see one on the house in PLAY MISTY FOR ME.
Where is that?
@@CHAPELSKILLS
Hello.
Clint’s house in the movie was at Big Sur, that’s why I mentioned it.
Take care.
amazing place but I have a fear of living on the edge of a cliff...would worry about having any dogs for fear of them wandering off the edeg
California, tumbles into the sea, that'll be the day I go back to Annandale...
You're selling a $25 million house but couldn't put together a video that doesn't use low resolution still photos throughout? Also the music is lame. Sorry, thanks.
How big money lives.
Let me know if the new owners want a live-in housekeeper. 😝
it costs a lot to live this free....... into the lottery win grab bag you go........
prop taxes 26k a month
$25,000,000??? Cost to build and design $2.6M.
Because of the location
Priced like Donald Trump would price. 😀
You have no idea about construction costs out there. It ain't 2.6 mil.
You’re paying $25 million for the view. They throw in the house for free.
Property in the Big Sur area isn't that exorbitant. It's too much of a pain in the ass to get to. Construction is very expensive in that locale for exactly the same reason. Trying to get people from Monterey to work only as far south as Bixby bridge was ridiculous. @@andrewthomason3857
Beautiful, until the next big earthquake.
Deathwish house! I don't get the Californian penchant for building houses in precarious positions on faultlines? 😮
Life without taking chances is no life at all.
YOLO
Have you ever been to Big Sur? I wish I had money too sir/ma'am. We're poor 😢
If you’ve never been to Big Sur, you wouldn’t understand. It’s hard to explain the sheer beauty unless you’ve been there.
People in the matrix are so funny. faultlines 😂 okay bud
No ocean access, yet beachfront, is like seeing a mirage of water you can't drink.
it's gonna fall in the ocean lol
Beautiful, but erosion on a cliff happens.
Not that high up. And even if, it'll be so slow nothing will happen in your lifetime.
@@einundsiebenziger5488 I am a 65 year old Californian, and hike Half Moon Bay every two weeks. I have been hiking there since I was a teen. The topography is different, but that piece of coast line has lost 40 or 50 feet in my lifetime. It does look like this beautiful house is built on rock. If I had the 24 Million, I might go for it!
loose the music
Looks like it could fall into the ocean any second. ...gee, I sure hope it doesn't fall into the ocean and take a bunch of rich people with it. That would be unfortunate. hahaha
Beautiful place, too bad it is located in Chinafornia.
But it’s in California….
Found the person that believes everything they read on the internet .... I used to get mad but now I say GOOD. I would LOVE for more people to leave California and less transplants to come .... Too many of our best locations are over-run with tourists now because social-media can't keep a secret .... I used to be able to visit these places in peace
ARCHITECT PLEASE
"In the mid 1960s, Richard Clements, a contractor from San Fransisco, set out to build a one of a kind resort....
He was said to be inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and passionate about green and environmentally friendly architecture and development. When purchased by new owners in the early ’90s, the home consisted of just the main wing and had no central heat. So they hired Mickey Muennig, a Big Sur architect known for organic architecture, to renovate the structure into a livable abode."
