    Hi Renee, great wrap up. I just read dog songs last month and loved it. I am in the minority and not loving a man called Ove. But I’m not against trying another one of Bachman’s books.
    Speaking of dogs, I love how your dog Reina looks at you when you’re talking. My goal is to adopt a dog next year as long as I’m still in relatively good health. Aloha dear friend.

    _Wager_ has been on my radar too. But I’m reading (by chance) so much nautical fiction and memoir this year that I can’t take it right now. My current author (Richard Henry Dana, _Two Years Before the Mast)_ just had a scene where the captain did something egregious (treated some of the crew like a black slave) and he talks of the ramification of the various courses of action a crew member might take - ultimately standing by and doing nothing is the right choice.
    I’ve also heard a lot about _A Man Called Ove._

      "Standing by and doing nothing...." sounds a lot like the Congressional choice of action!🤔

    Garbage eater here! 😂 Call me a RACCOOOON.
    Honestly, I really enjoy hearing you give a brief synopsis of every book 🥹 You're SO clear. I absolutely love that you are also answering questions from Ellen's channel as well. I love that you showed the map -- from my very basic knowledge from when I was in high school... I vaguely remember that going through the cape was a really long travel. But that's the most I know about travels. 😂 A Man Called Ove is a book on my TBR for a while now. I'm also really excited to see how I will enjoy the book.

    The Wager sounds interesting! I read a lot of "garbage" according to booktube. Mysteries of almost any subgenre are my favorites, and they are considered "trash" by some literary/classic book readers. That's how the event got started since Olly of Criminolly (the creator of the event) loves Ed McBain books. He's trying to encourage reading in all forms. Not just the books listed for literary prizes and classics. The label has little to do with the writing quality and enjoyment factor of a book. It's a critic's perception of the value of a book. Hope you find a "trashy" book for August so you can join the rest of us bibliophiles!😊

      @bjminton2698 Yes, I'm sure I will. But considering that "one man's trash is another's treasure," will it REALLY be trash? 🤪

    Thank you for the shoutout! 😊 And I really enjoyed hearing your answers to the Wager questions as well, we would be great mutineers together 😂 I just filmed my book club video with Ove, I agree that it’s a very charming book and that we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, so to speak. We never know what people go through, or what their goals are (treats! same!). I’m glad you’re enjoying the poetry as well!
    On another note, did you get a new mic? The sound is great when it’s good, but I think you could wear it a bit further away from your mouth to avoid the sound peaking, like it’s doing a little bit now. I would hate for anyone to click off your videos because of a mic issue, so I just wanted to share some friendly advice! You might also be able to lower the input volume, that could also help.

    • @BeyondBooks-wt5il
      @BeyondBooks-wt5il  5 місяців тому +1

      @ellenmadebookclub thank you! Yes! I started using the mic a couple of videos ago . I've tried a couple of different things, and I haven't found the sweet spot yet! I will take you up on your suggestion and see if it improves the sound quality - thanks!

    I loved A Man Called Ove, both the book and the Swedish movie. I haven't seen the American version yet, but I don't think it will be a good as the original, even with Tom Hanks. I stayed up until 1 this morning to finish Beartown, and now I can't wait to read the next two in the series. I guess I'm becoming a Frederick Backman devotee 🙂
