I’ve not been in a relationship with domestic abuse, for example, but I can envision what that must be like and contribute to Safe Haven a local resource for those who are going through that. I contribute to a jail ministry though i don’t know anyone who has personally been incarcerated because lives are changed through the ministry.. It’s called empathy, I believe.

Exactly. This is why simply citing "Shall not be infringed" as a be all end all argument is stupid. If we followed those words to the letter, people would be allowed to own nuclear warheads. It's also easy to construct the opposite hypothetical. Your giving up one assault rifle won't end the killing sprees immediately, but the fewer there are available, the less likely people are to have access to them. We know this from previous experience. During these campaigns for office you will often see in the TV ads. That "So and So" 'has the Highest NRA rating.' That actually means the officials of the NRA has met with the canidate and agrees to defend NRA commercial policies no matter what opposition arises from fellow party members or opposing canidates. That is bribery and 'business as usual' That somehow has to end. My point was that we born in the boomer era knew by the time we got to high school in the late 60s and early 70s knew the storm was coming, vowed to do something about, and either failed miserably or just didn't care. Voting more democrats into congress will get laws actually changed! Gun laws, voting rights, woman's rights etc! And the voting of 2020 was legal. We had a crisis with the virus. He’s only speaking out now because he’s leaving in 7 months. So It doesn’t matter what anyone says about him weather be it Republican or Democrat. he’ll advocate for gun bans and what ever laws will make him look good in the eyes of the people, because when his time is up and if laws don’t get passed he can say’ well I tried my best whilst I was there or if something gets passed he can say he had a hand in it. Yeah right. The Second Amendment doesn't protect anything. The fact is that the Army has tanks, planes, drones, missiles, and all other sophisticated weaponry that easily outmatches any gun a civilian can own. 2A advocates like to romanticize the idea of civilians rising up to overthrow a tyrant, but the reality is that this only happens if the military allows it. Civilians armed with AR-15s won't do anything against the US Army if the Army really wants to put the uprising down.

I would interpret the intent of this amendment to include regulation on the type of firearm that could be possessed by the "well regulated militia"... The word "regulated" would mean rules and laws governing the acquisition and ownership of a firearm.

If the GOP is all about fiscal conservancy, how do they justify the $280 billion dollars spent EVERY SINGLE YEAR on gun violence? That is a tax on us to the tune of $856.27 on every man, woman, and child in the US (~327e6 people). For a family of four that means a tax of $3425 to pay for gun violence every single year! How many other places that money could go.
I'm not sure about your numbers, but I get your point. There are two answers to this question. The first is the obvious fact that neither Republicans nor Democrats are really "about fiscal conservancy." Both parties spend like mad -- just on different things. Sometimes, they even spend like mad on the same things (e.g. a proxy war in Ukraine). The second is that we live in a time when the government believes it can print money and incur debt forever without consequences. When you see all of your peers engaging in fiscal irresponsibility -- and getting re-elected because the people love the handouts and/or the causes -- you can either get on board or lose your seat. Fiscal responsibility is a losing political issue. No one likes the austerity police.
Unless the body armour bill has been changed, it's useless, because it specifically bans Kevlar which is no longer used in body armour, because AR15 cuts through it like butter. It's metal plate armour that needs to be restricted.

If more gun laws will force a criminal to obey that law, what are they? Chicago has one of the highest shooting rates in USA, it also has some of the most gun control laws in USA. Even if we made federal gun laws similar to Chicago's choices, what law will work? Taking law following citizens weapons only leaves them to be prey for criminal predators.
So how come the US has more homicides than the EU, with more people living in the EU? Especially since the US has 50% of all privately owned guns. You have more guns but are less safe... How is that working out?
There needs to be federal enforcement of laws regulating guns. No one is suggesting to leave law-abiding citizens without the right and possibility to get a gun. In fact, republicans could get ahead in this topic if they suggested support for regulations on semi and automatic assault rifles if law abiding citizens who complied with training, gun ID tracing and licensing requirements could be allowed CCPs (concealed carry permits). Instead they argue like you do, ignoring their possible constituency in States like Illinois, California and NY, where is so hard to get a gun that bringing them in from other States is quite a lucrative (criminal) business. And for what? So 18 yr olds can keep buying as many assault rifles as they want? How does that make any sense? How many good, moral, sober, prudent self defenders carry assault rifles to defend themselves?
I am pro quality of life, and any life that can be its best is a life that deserves the chance to have it. I also believe it should be no person's right to make that choice for another. It should absolutely be each person's right to decide when or if they will bring a life into this world. No one else. To compare that to the willful intent to take lives is exponentially different. We would all live much happier lives making less choices about what's right for other people's lives, and more choices that support them. Maybe that would be a better plan.
What people forget is each representative does not represent everyone. They represent their constituents. Because you feel one way doesn’t mean someone somewhere else feels the same way. Only your representative represents you and everyone in your area. Representatives from Texas for example have to bend to the will of their constituents the same way New York reps bend to theirs.

It comes down to one very simple question. Would you give up your assault weapon if it meant you could have saved 19 children...and even more from future killing sprees? If you said no, then you are complicit and have blood on your hands.
I'd wager most people would, of course, say yes. But that's a hypothetical for a reason. In reality, giving up one's assault weapon won't save children from killing sprees.
It's also easy to construct the opposite hypothetical. Would you agree to give up gun-free school zones if it meant 19 parents could have gone into that school themselves and defended their children instead of being forced to stand outside while the police did nothing and their injured children died?

During these campaigns for office you will often see in the TV ads. That "So and So" 'has the Highest NRA rating.' That actually means the officials of the NRA has met with the canidate and agrees to defend NRA commercial policies no matter what opposition arises from fellow party members or opposing canidates. That is bribery and 'business as usual' That somehow has to end. My point was that we born in the boomer era knew by the time we got to high school in the late 60s and early 70s knew the storm was coming, vowed to do something about, and either failed miserably or just didn't care. If the GOP is all about fiscal conservancy, how do they justify the $280 billion dollars spent EVERY SINGLE YEAR on gun violence? That is a tax on us to the tune of $856.27 on every man, woman, and child in the US (~327e6 people). For a family of four that means a tax of $3425 to pay for gun violence every single year! How many other places that money could go.
I'm not sure about your numbers, but I get your point. There are two answers to this question. The first is the obvious fact that neither Republicans nor Democrats are really "about fiscal conservancy." Both parties spend like mad -- just on different things. Sometimes, they even spend like mad on the same things (e.g. a proxy war in Ukraine).
The second is that we live in a time when the government believes it can print money and incur debt forever without consequences. When you see all of your peers engaging in fiscal irresponsibility -- and getting re-elected because the people love the handouts and/or the causes -- you can either get on board or lose your seat. Fiscal responsibility is a losing political issue. No one likes the austerity police.

If more gun laws will force a criminal to obey that law, what are they? Chicago has one of the highest shooting rates in USA, it also has some of the most gun control laws in USA. Even if we made federal gun laws similar to Chicago's choices, what law will work? Taking law following citizens weapons only leaves them to be prey for criminal predators.
You do know that most of the guns in Chicago come from Wisconsin and Michigan which have some of the most loose gun laws in the states.
So how come the US has more homicides than the EU, with more people living in the EU? Especially since the US has 50% of all privately owned guns. You have more guns but are less safe... How is that working out?
There needs to be federal enforcement of laws regulating guns. No one is suggesting to leave law-abiding citizens without the right and possibility to get a gun. In fact, republicans could get ahead in this topic if they suggested support for regulations on semi and automatic assault rifles if law abiding citizens who complied with training, gun ID tracing and licensing requirements could be allowed CCPs (concealed carry permits). Instead they argue like you do, ignoring their possible constituency in States like Illinois, California and NY, where is so hard to get a gun that bringing them in from other States is quite a lucrative (criminal) business. And for what? So 18 yr olds can keep buying as many assault rifles as they want? How does that make any sense? How many good, moral, sober, prudent self defenders carry assault rifles to defend themselves?

I am pro quality of life, and any life that can be its best is a life that deserves the chance to have it. I also believe it should be no person's right to make that choice for another. It should absolutely be each person's right to decide when or if they will bring a life into this world. No one else. To compare that to the willful intent to take lives is exponentially different. We would all live much happier lives making less choices about what's right for other people's lives, and more choices that support them. Maybe that would be a better plan.

What people forget is each representative does not represent everyone. They represent their constituents. Because you feel one way doesn’t mean someone somewhere else feels the same way. Only your representative represents you and everyone in your area. Representatives from Texas for example have to bend to the will of their constituents the same way New York reps bend to theirs.

@@kaytee5031 Have to look at the US senate and the way it's constructed. Presently, Democratic senators represent at least 20,314,962 more people than their Republican colleagues. For example, California and Wyoming both have 2 senators. But California has 68 times more people. And then of course, there's Mitch McConnell, who wantonly blocks almost all Democrat bills.

And the body armor. Why is that being sold to the average citizen? Sure, body armor should be available to military and Law Enforcement.
