I’m an orthopedic surgeon in training and I find your advice on the topic eccellent. Personally I recommend my patients physioterapy 3 times a week, no more and no less, especially in the first 3/4 months, in order to regain mobility, strength and confidence, and to continue and be active for their lives.
I’m glad there’s people like you on UA-cam. Go on with these kind of contents.

Thanks so much for sharing your story and giving hope to the rest of us!
I’ll be turning 55 next month and had both hips replaced in 2021, the left on January 13th and the right on October 13th. I had joined a group conditioning class when I turned 45 and had also been taking a spin class and yoga class until COVID-19 hit and they were cancelled. So I was in somewhat good shape prior to the first surgery.
Last summer, I developed bursitis in my right hip due to overcompensating for the pain on the left as it was healing. This summer, I developed it on the left side for the same reason.
I went back to group conditioning twice a week after being out for about a year in January 2022. At that time, I was also riding a spin bike for 30 minutes 2-3 times per week, but I realized that spinning was aggravating my bursitis so I haven’t done any for the last two weeks. I also resumed online yoga in January and that does ease the pain some. I’m seeing my PCP this coming Thursday September 8th and will talk about it with her.
I’m hoping to be back to normal activities like hiking by next summer. Your videos keep me feeling optimistic that I’ll be able to get there eventually.
    Thanks again!

Thank you for this (and your other hip-related) video! 👏
I've had my hip replacement just a week a go (46 years old). I was always a very active and sporty person and my hip started to give me lots of issues. I wanted to go back to "normal", so I decided to undergo the surgery.
On the very next day after my surgery, I was even able and allowed to walk without support / crutches. I didn't experience pain or instability issues ... which is crazy 😀
One week after I can walk normally and perform some basic exercises in a rehab facility.
I think the way you feel and move after the surgery varies a lot ... by age, how active were you before, how does your body deal with the implant etc. ... but I think being active before and after benefits a lot. And today's technology is even more advanced than several years ago (Titanium / Ceremic / Poly Layers). I'm very happy that I did this surgery and can't wait to be very active again! 😄

Thank you for your videos, inspiring and motivating. I am 59 year old woman, active although slight over weight. Was doing Crossfit 3 x week prior to surgey. I am now 7 weeks post surgery, and consider the surgery a success. However, I am having pains everyday in my groin hip flexor area, and on the muscles surrounding the joint on the posterior surgical leg. I am also now having quite intense pain in my knees? I am following the physio protocals and write every exersise down. 3 times a day i have been advised to do my exersises. I am now allowed in the pool and on a stationary bike at to walk. Follwing all these and not over doing it, however wake up, hip flexor pain, hinge movements feels like its crunching in deep anterior hipflexor. How long does one expect to feel painwhile exersises? frustrations, sometimes feels like i have more pain now then before? Thanks for any feedback.

Content: I always come to E3 Rehab for correct and actionable data. I would love to see a short episode on the state of the profession (PT). I have had my share of sports injuries over 5 decades, and what I see in the field is not promising. These young DPT's at the clinics seem so uninterested and disconnected (almost bored). After a few discussions they are thousands in debt and averaging about 70K/year in these clinics. Just curious as to your thoughts on the profession, the education etc. Thanks so much.

Hello, just found your content and it’s so great. I too have AVN of both hips and currently 4 weeks post op of my right hip replacement. I will eventually need the left one replaced too but I currently do not have any symptoms. Doctor has recommended hip core decompression surgery for the left, wanted to see if you would recommend it? I almost feel like if it’s not broken don’t fix it but I also know it could buy me time. I don’t know, I’m torn. What would you do or what’s your experience?

    Hi Mark,
A big thankyou for your really helpful videos. I am a 64 year old physically active male and had a new hip 3 months ago. I was wondering if I can do full body press-ups at this stage without causing damage to the prosthesis?
The reason that I ask is that I still have some stiffness and discomfort in my hip from time to time.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Cheers

Same as you, I got AVN after high dose steroids during cancer treatment. Right THR at 35yrs old. Question... I'm terrified of falling. Before the replacement, I loved to snowboard, skateboard, rollerskate / ice skate. Should I be avoiding these things or is it reasonably safe for me to do them again? Advice please!

Thank you for this! I’m 44 and had a total hip replacement in May of this year. I did PT after, which I found pretty useless. I’m currently experiencing pain in my quad on that side. I also can’t get into, or out of, a deep squat. It’s so confusing. Do I focus on strengthening or mobility, or do I just leave it be? Months into healing and I feel like I have more questions than I have answers.

This is a great video Thank's E3 Rehab...
I had a full hip replacement a year ago this week, strangely enough. I was wondering if any one out there reading these Q&A's gets a strange sensation when doing an activity ?
It's kind of hard to explain but here go's, if I move sudenly it's like something snapping or slipping or pulling. The first time it happend was kind of scary, but it's happened multiple times since and to a lesser degree than the first time. " Probably because I'm more prepared tho"... But I can get it doing somethig as simple as lifting my leg to get into bed. Infact that's probably the best way to explin it, as the first time it happened was getting into bed.
I'm kind of thinking it's a muscle issue or fascia. And is there any way to strengthen it. Or should I just live with it and it will get better with time.🤞 I kind of notice it more also if I go to kick a ball to my grandson. I exercise regularly but avoid any thing that may cause it to happen like kicking or switching my movement too sharply.
I would be keen to hear of any body who shares a simular experience.
    Cheers Martin.

Hi, Martin. Is this something you've discussed with your surgeon?

    • @martinhayward
      @martinhayward Рік тому

No I saw him about 6 weeks after and he was pretty happy with my recovery at that point. Although I did tell him I’d encountered some problems but he seemed to think everything was fine and I was healing normally. I live in the UK and it’s a little hard to get appointments with the actual surgeon after covid and on the NHS.
I think I’ve recovered pretty well, I have no limp, or pain it’s just this nagging thing that still seems to be here a year on.

I had a similar issue on occasion (1.5 years since surgery). My surgeon advised it was just the IT band. It goes away when I warm up and now it almost never happens.

    • @martinhayward
      @martinhayward Рік тому

@@wallacegossen1892 Thank’s Wallace, I kinda thought it was a muscle issue but wasn’t sure what to do about it.
Definitely not as bad as when it first happened. It felt like something snapped.
When I spoke to my surgeon I got the feeling it wasn’t his area, he was more interested in how I was healing the joint was moving ok and the scar was fine, so all was good. He did say that some people heal really well but have setbacks & it was definitely a set back 🥺
I do some lateral band exercises that seem to help, and my leg has got stronger squatting with light weights & I can now do single leg squats without assistance, hopefully with a little more time every thing will be good.
      Cheer Martin.
