Love all the controversy and interesting conversations/memes around this video and in general, the new player experience. I really wish Deca would try to get new players into this game and try keeping them. Even though I run dungeons a lot through discords, I would fully support a bazaar removal if that meant reviving the realms.
when youve played enough rotmg you forget how weird this game truly is then you see an average person play and you realize you are an alien on this earth
Personally, the first vid wasn’t that bad, he just got some things wrong which did deserve to be fixed but when it came to his first experience with the game, it was pretty accurate imo
He’s right in that the game is definitely rough for new players with little guidance in any direction. For one, how would someone know you could turn off ally shots to free up visual space?
The main point I want to make as someone who isn't good at the game in the sense of skill is that if I don't know something or want to know something it's an easy UA-cam search or Realmeye search away. Before anyone replies with new players don't know about Realmeye, well type in the item or boss you want and write Realm of the Mad God next to it and you're almost guaranteed a search result that leads to Realmeye anyway. I will say Discords are very harsh to the new player because of requirements but Discords unfortunately aren't really meant for the new player, now hear me out the new player should achieve at least a few stars on every class to see if they enjoy the class enough to want to exalt it anyway.
My first time playing Realm i wasnt into it and took my friend wanting to play and also my laptop not being able to run anything else, only after playing for hours did i start enjoying the game. The new player experience sucks as i recently introduced my bf to the game but had such a hard time learning, mostly watching me play the game and explaining things he slowly understood the game. In short being new to the game sucks, so i found his first video to be fair and honest with how bad it is for someone jumping into the game without someone to walk them through.
small ideas for helping newer players I would petition for lower level dungeons could drop stat potions, like finding pots in pirate caves, spider dens, etc. (not life, but MAYBE mana? Mystery pots would also be fine) Maybe a ring with XP boost on it? If you get 1 early, you could re use it sensibly forever as a newer player. Could also be for sale in the nexus. Beyond that, I think maybe helpful tips could be added into chat that could help newer players find their feet, make them aware of settings that might optimize performance later down the line. perhaps adding ‘tips’ you can read when you die that are geared to helping you know why you died. Like if you die in tombs, it could say "did you know its much easier to just fight 1 boss at a time without waking the other 2 up, you can just kill bes, then nut, then geb". Newer players are not learning how to solo tombs is a great example, especially because the experienced players do not need to run through tombs anymore! These tips would also be very useful in end game dungeons, so that people who arent using discords, could learn some tips that will legit help them overcome endgame bosses, like “try using a defence tincture during xyz phase". I dont exactly blame Deca for every problem we have with realm, they have done a stellar job reworking the garbage kablam put in the game, the changes have substantially improved mid + late game for remaining players, plus they also rebuilt realm getting off the flash platform, these accomplishments have done realm wonders for the health of the game. We shouldn’t have put such ‘perfection’ expectations on deca’s shoulders. I only hope that with more help we can find solutions deca are willing to implement that will lend more encouragement for the newer players, without the need for us to become toxic towards the dev’s who are still busting their nuts off to work on this great game.
**laughs in 14k spent** Love that Josh has always been very good at taking criticism, and that he made an update video. Edit: Would love to see Josh experience Discord raids. I personally find it to be the most boring way to play, but for someone that does play other MMOs with "Raid Leaders", he might enjoy it.
I think most people would find dungeons fun until they clear it for the first time since it can be a challenge, but farming it with discord’s is always so cringe xD
@@sebchoof My point was more that the "Discord Raids" kinda originates from games like WoW, and other big MMOs that he's put a lot more time into. I recently stopped playing the game because I wasn't willing to do 1k shatters muted in a discord to exalt all my characters attack. Love the videos man, your feedback is always excellent.
Not sure how you can say deca hasn’t been catering to endgame players. Oryx 3, Exaltations, (every month long event) Shatters update, UT Forge all primarily focused on endgame players
i think realm should make the tutorial start you on a maxed 8/8 char with a good pet, and then it should throw you into a dungeon that a new player can play through that actually shows mechanics and stuff, but then at the end is a boss that kills you pretty much guaranteed shows up to show the death mechanic, it should also give you like 1000 fame or smt as a start and maybe a basic pet with only 1 of either heal or magic heal at a low level (not both)
i know this is probly a bad take but for someone with thousands of hours in the game personally i wish i could go back to first starting the game mybe 8 or 9 years ago when i started playing it was alot better of an experience but saying that alot has changed and i have no clue what it would be like now
I also was thinking the new player experience was not great and they prioritize end game content and game players too much. Things like the shatters rework and the ddocks reqork for players who are newer or medium skilled changed those dungeons too drastically to the point that it doesnt feel quite like a rework and more like a complete overhaul, previously i would rank those dungeons at around 5/10 for ddocks and 6.5/10 for old shatters which might be difficult but doable with groups and you didnt need to fully understand everything about the dungeon to be able to do it with a group in the realm. Now because they scaled the dungeons to make so much harder, I never see anyone go into a ddocks ever, and because the dungeon is harder now its almost impossible for those same players to be able to do it now, and shatters was made so hard that the only feasible way to do it is discord runs. The reworks imo should have kept these dungeons around the same difficulty instead of turning the difficulty way up to the point that they essentially killed any interest for people in the realm to do these dungeons now and i think it just keeps getting more and more worse since they only seem to care about making the game harder to challenge the existing player base. When was the last time a medium level dungeon that just drops a BASIC stat pot as its main reward added? Last i can recall was Magic woods which was so long ago I don't even remember when they added it. Since then every dungeon that has been released or reworked has dropped greater stat potions and there hasnt been any dungeons around the skill level of mwoods since, which is more of a clear sign that they are only caring about endgame players
You said the people they prioritze are whales...int he video he says that the end game players are the whales...no need to disagree with him, and also most of the patch notes and dungeon additions are aimed at more advanced players than newer players
There’s a large portion of the end game players who haven’t spent money’s me another large portion that hasn’t spent under 200$, a whale would be someone who has spent thousands (like me fml)

If you can't do cdepths in a small group on a 6/8 then that problem is you and and not the game. Not being mean but you clearly suck at the game and think it has to do with other factors.
