The real difference between costly and affordable resonators is the quality of the cone. A good cone isn't a huge amount of money but probably, between that and a bone nut makes a worthwhile upgrade. Considering old nationals have some really odd materials, for example bakelite necks come to mind, the cheaper construction isn't an issue.
Interesting. I like the look and sound of that guitar. The only thing I'm not into is the slotted headstock.
I have same Guitar,.... superb instrument..... aren’t we blessed, I tuned mine to open E and play hillbilly style
Hi jack, after your video i decided to give it a try. Ordered mine yesterday, will be arriving today. Lets keep those fingers crossed and hope for the best!
Jack Fossett package delayed, will arrive tomorrow. Would you recommend a special set of strings or just a regular 10-48? Greetz
Jack Fossett lol, i went for the 16-56 🤪 big string, nice sound. Nice guitar and build quality is much better then I expected!
Levi Siccard oh haha nice - yeah Harley Benton in general are good build quality. More in line with guitars that cost 30-40% more
Hi, I am new to the resonator world and I have been looking into them. If you had a choice between this one, recording king rm 993 and recording king rr-36 roundneck which one would you say is more worth the money? and I know the 993 from recording king is parlor size but at the same time alot of people are saying it sounds more like a full size resonator. It would be great if you could give some input. Thanks!
I got the HB Custom Line clr-resoelectric. I think it's heavy, but I like the sound of it. The clr chrome model is much more pretty.
A heavy metal guitar, for playing country, bluegrass and blues....;-)
it is a confusing world...
been browsing the web, and the Thomann website, for weeks, many many hours, looking at Resoking, National, Mule, Gretsch, etc etc.
I never owned a resonator before, though my style seems well suited for one.
After watching your video, I finally cut the knot and ordered this one. Thank you. Most demos show only slide, or else have bad sound quality. I definitely want one that can handle fretting as well as slide.
Now I have to wait 5 weeks before it gets here (they dont have them in stock apparently).
I got two HB electro acoustics and they are very nice for the price.
A great shame Harley Benton don't do this model with a couple of pickups. Instead they do a thinner bodied version with a lipstick pickup but no piezo.
Have you still got yours? Im thinking of getting this model.
Got the bass version. It's different!
Thanks brother. 👏🎶🎸🎶👏
Nice. I want one.
not bad ,sounds good especially for the Price ,if you are busy - able to play really good that you can entertain People with such an divine Guitar you can with no problems buy a National Resonator they have a higher Price but they sound better -the Resonator Universe transports a very important American Musicstyle that has no Price .only it´s `really wonderfull
Nice!
You forgot to slide! ( As a potential buyer i was hoping it would come)
Besides that you did a great review, you keep it where it should be and no yada, yada, yada about nothing!
Good job!
How does this fare with standard tuning?
@@JackFossett thanks for the quick reply! Most resonators I have played have the action set up for slide, do you find this guitar supports low action well?
@@TheAmazingCobalt I actually found the action low for slide, so it suits standard playing very well
@@JackFossett Awesome thanks! I'm assuming the action could be lowered further by adjusting the bridge/sanding the nut if necessary?
Brought the bass version, check out my vids of it if you wish.

What tuning for Romeo & Juliet?
Open G - although Knopfler uses a capo and plays it in a different key, but Open G for the chord shapes
Learn to play it dobro slide young man.
Excellent review. Thanks.
Good to hear something other than slide to illustrate the versatility of the instrument.
Thank you!
