I love that GW borrows from Biblical, even just flat out human, mythos for their universe. Drach'nyen represents something so much greater than Chaos or the Ruinous Powers. @Twiddly Stosh Drach'nyen is the Emperor, in a way. The Custodes always see the Emperor for what he truly is, a normal man. Why does not the Primarchs see that true image of him? My theory is that Abby saw this fate when looking into the Astronomicon, and is fully prepared to fulfill it. It's a destiny that will end with him on Terra, and dying upon it after finally tearing the Emperor from it and freeing him, splitting the Imperium and dividing humanity, but not ending it. It wouldn't end with the obliteration of Mankind, or delivering it to Chaos' maw (Abaddon hates Chaos almost as much as the Emperor after all) but start a new age and a new Galaxy. An age in which the strong and able can carve out their own fate, free from the shackles of the Imperium, it makes some sense. After all, this was the foundation on which the Heresy was started.
Out of the few books I’ve read this one is still my favorite passage. What is stated earlier on in the book is that this was not the first murder per say. It was stated that humans have been killing each other for thousands of years. What made that one different wasn’t the fact that it was the emperors father that was killed (which is in fact true) , it’s the fact that this was the first murder committed out of bloodlust. It was the first needless murder.
"perhaps one day, but not today" I get the feeling the emperor knows that this demon will destroy him and that it is unavoidable, only postponable. It might find its way to him in the hands of Abbadon. The Emperor just seems to be planning for that day so that when he is ultimately killed then mankind can survive without him.
When I read this I thought Drach'nyen was the echo of Cain murdering Able (which is more likely just that particular religion's mythos of the event of the first time man took a life of another man).
I thought it was just the first murder EVER. As in, probably from even before mankind. That made it seem way more perspective orienting to me. A being that is older than mankind, facing off against humanity's greatest champion.
@@camomurf5182 Don't think so. Daemons are created from raw emotion. So you need something able to feel that emotion for a daemon to come in to existence
15:24 Well Drach'nyen isn't your ordinary daemon. It's like comparing a human ( Bloodthirster ) with a Custodes ( Drach'nyen ). Just like the Chaos gods, it wasn't created by another entity but born through an act, in this case the first ever human murder and fratricide, a nod to Cain and Abel. Drach'nyen is a cosmic entity, the embodiement of an act, murder, and way beyond any daemon or even Greater Daemon created and shaped by the Chaos gods. While Emps effortlessly burnt and banished scores of Greater Daemons of all Chaos gods on a whim in this battle, he got almost one shot by Drach'nyen. That thing is technicaly older than the Chaos gods. At least his consciousness is. GW actualy did him a huge disservice by having the Chaos gods seal Drach'nyen away like it was just their secret weapon and nothing more.

ooo got chills at not fear, no never that. I love these moments when they describe the fleeting hint of fear in the post humans. For the first time, maybe the only time in their near endless lives they feel what might be fear at the chance that they might lose the Emperor. No matter how powerful the Emperor is, not even he could remove the fear of losing what they love the most. OR maybe he did. No, not fear. Never that.
Your comment earlier about only getting goose bumps when it's the Emperor or Primarchs got me wanting to hear some tales of them. Absolutely love these.
I found this book perplexing. It made things, in this ret conned lore, make more sense to me. But, it also made me confused AF at the same time. I still do not understand why Big E didn't insta gib Horus. None of the new lore clarifies that for me. The old lore, when Big E wasn't a complete See You Next Tuesday, made him hesitating understandable. This new lore just makes me wonder WTH is going on. *shrug*
He is a very very powerful and long lived post human. He is tall as fuck (taller than Primarchs), has the power of thousands of psykers (plus a power up from the Chaos gods themselves) and is a bloody perpetual. But in the end he is human, he feels, yearns, loves, hates, and gets sad. He is prone to human failures, but because of the tremendous place he has in the whole species, his failures are as big as his victories. Failing to understand the Primarchs, to believe they would fall, hell to even avoid telling them of chaos, was one of the Emps big fucking mistakes.
I had to have a dog put down once it was the right thing to do it was the logical thing to do but I still almost couldn't bring myself to have it done I loved that dog So imagining the same situation but with a son instead of a friend and needing to do it with my own hands is 1000 times worse I have no idea why people struggle with understanding why the emperor almost didn't do it He is a human a man that raised and loved his son and almost died just so he wouldn't have to suffer killing him
Ra is one of the most endearing characters warhammer has ever written and idk how anyone reads that book without at least tearing up a little. That's how you know the writer is good... in a grimdark franchise they can make you nearly tear up for someone. Ra is one of if not the greatest heroes of the entirety of the imperium. I also desperately want to read the story of how Abaddon was able to get the daemon sword Drachnyan off of Ra, if that's how he achieved. Since the sword ra was impaled with is the one abaddon is using in 40k. I read a theory that Ra could have possibly chosen abaddon because he is so selfish that he would never release the daemon because it was a tool for him to use as a sword but it is uncontrollable as a daemon. Idk I'd love a book on that. I believe it's actually the 1st black crusade if I remember correctly
Abbadon is getting closer to the emperor with DRACH’NYEN. Will they meet again, It’ll be interesting to see what happens. The emperor might return again to fight the demon one last time or will it be his death as stated.
listened to the audiobook several times and every time i discover something new...soo beautiful book..... especialy when earlier to this scene, deamons keept screaming : when will the sun rise, when is the sun coming.....foreshadowing that exsact scene
My read is that the emperor is basically a metaphorical being within a human shell. An embodiment of human order hence his xenophobia etc though of course vulnerable on that basis to dravhnyen, the embodiment of specifically human rage and violence

@@Leman.Russ.6thLegion lol amazing. Now on a silly and fun argumentative note: That's rare coming from the Emperors emperors executioner..... Leman Russ.
I think that the emperor not being to kill this demon was fine, im sure the chaos gods dont fear him because he himself could directly beat them in a one to one combat or anything like that but because if his plans would've gone right they themselves would've eventually "died", this whole battle against the demon and knowing the emperor can bleed and be hurt just like any regular person helps to show that he really isnt some godly entity above all of humanity, hes just another human despite his huge power
When Abbadon finally conquers the imperium of man he will make a proclamation. That "he has created the greatest empire in humanities history." And it will be at that moment that his sword awakens and consumes him. The emperor's plan fulfilled.

If he is killed by drachyn he is dead perminantly. Deamon weapons contain the bound fury of a deamon and the more powerful most likly rivals the emporers sword and should he be killed with give the emporer a true death
I think this is the best evidence that we'll see Abaddon kill the emperor's body. "Perhaps one day, but not today" I think he saw the future. Drachnyen is imprisoned as abaddons sword. So technically he WOULD be the emperor's death. Even if it was abaddons hand on it. I think abaddon will kill him and in that moment give birth to the new true God of mankind.
2 possibilities. Either he wanted to get that demon far away from him and his Custodes because of what its capable of, or he had future plans for the demon and knew that one day it would be Abaddon's sword.
Remember V for Vendetta? That wasn't a demon, it was an idea, a concept, a thought, gaming meta , of a murder. Ideas are bullet proof, and in this case even mind-bullets are useless. You can't kill an idea of murder using murder. The Emperor, in his wisdom, used a pro move and countered murder with the love of his custodian, Rha. Alas, we will never read word "love" in the lore. It could have solved all problems over there. And im not talking about man-woman, romantic love, but more of Jesus type of love for everyone. If only the Emperor gave out a few sincere hugs. Mortarion and Pertrarabo would be off the traitor list right away. Horus, Angron and Fulgrim are problem children, tho. Don't think a simple hug would help them.
So I've watched this video like twice and I know this is an old one, but I have a question on this whole story. IF the god emperor was so powerful that he could force the daemon into a physical form and then command it to bind with the flesh of the custodian he hurled the sword at, why did he not just bind with Drach'nyen there and then? If he was so strong surely he could have been able to keep the daemon in check within him or at best use it as an offensive advantage as it's alliance was not to any one chaos god. This really annoys me that he simply threw away what was to become Abaddons most powerful weapon and he must have known would return to claim the lives of man eventually...
the duel with Horus is closer and closer, better be safe than sorry. Drachnyen in sword form chose Abaddon as its wielder, i guess it is powerful enough to have free will over who can benefit from its might
It blows up the golden throne, and the psychic shockwave pretty much annihilates the entire daemon horde besieging Terra and plus. Effectively erasing them from the warp, meaning they can't come back. This would cripple Chaos so much they would necer recover from it. That's what I understood at least
The emperor knows the so called gods are not gods as they let on. Though people are tricked by there power. That's why the emperor didn't tell his sons about it. they would not understand and worship them as gods. Also would likely worship that demon of the first kill as well.
Yeah you got my bad grammar and spelling, well done for you. I would say the risk of having these god like men turn and take power was to high a risk. Though it did happen anyway. The eldar knew about the "gods" and still wrecked there empire. Also I use something of great power to stand for a god. Based off people always worshipping great power in texts, through out history.
You're wrong. Certainly the chaos gods aren't worthy of worship in their current state, but he and you are wrong to think that hiding their existence is helpful. They are literally powerful enough to reach out and contact people close to the eye of terror or other warp rifts, in addition literally all human FTL travel is through the warp so of course some imperial forces the primarchs more likely than most would encounter chaos. Telling people "by the way there's horrific demon gods in the warp formed by all the left over emotional debris from humans and other species, please be wary of them" would have been a lot more helpful than just saying "stop believing in metaphysical things like gods and spirits also magic powers are banned even though I use magic" fuck both your condescending patronizing arses. People are better than he thinks and their worst instincts work very differently from how he thinks. He's a liar and a hypocrite.
There must be a way to change the energies of the warp and uncorrupt them. If Isha is able to live uncorrupted in Nurgle’s garden, even though she is a minor warp god compared to the big four, then there must be a way to have a diety that can cleanse chaos if enough sentient beings believed in it.
Is there also a demon for the first person killed by plague? And aren't the chaos gods scared not because the emperor would kill them but he would be the end of their sentient form as when there is no religion humans don't ascribe certain actions or so to gods?
This daemon is something akin to a minor chaos God. It is separate from the big 4 and it is it's own unique entity. That's how it's so powerful, it's not a sliver of One of the big 4 so it must have a considerable amount of power to exist. That being said I had to do a double take after realizing that big E honestly could not kill it, that's just.... Anathema.
@@kelman727 I agree. But we see daemons of higher power able to resist Big E and his golden Aura to some extent, while the weak little guys just poof out of existence because he's to powerful, the more potent daemons are hurt but can still act. The first murder daemon could certainly be killed by Big E I think "Ra almost kills it with an ambush, so it is vulnerable to simple damage" but it could also kill him on account of it's considerable power. So while it's displayed that The Emperor is Anathema to Daemons it's also shown that a strong enough one could simply overpower him, as heretical as that sounds. That is my two cents for what's it's worth.

@@papanurgle8393 strong and able were doing exactly the same thing forever. So nothing new or interesting.
The Ultimate Evil - Hidden, as is usual per the Bible - is Satan.
This is "The Path to Hell" being paved and cobbled together with (less than Good) "Intentions"
"perhaps one day, but not today"
I get the feeling the emperor knows that this demon will destroy him and that it is unavoidable, only postponable.

Satan.
@@camomurf5182 Don't think so. Daemons are created from raw emotion. So you need something able to feel that emotion for a daemon to come in to existence
15:24
Well Drach'nyen isn't your ordinary daemon.
Khrone is born at the murder that Cain committed on his brother Drach’nyen is the echo of that murder he’s just as old as khrone
Cain kills his brother out of anger and jealousy
Drach’nyen was born when the first human murdered someone willingly he is definitely younger than khrone.
Very interesting that the custodes just sees a man when looking at the emperor.

This is one of your best readings ever.
ooo got chills at not fear, no never that. Never that.
This is my favorite story over Rho.
It’s funny because ADB is such a Chaos fanboy. The Emperor never said he had a plan to kill the loyal Primarchs.
Yeah it's why I don't like the book so much
Even I. who am not Big E's hugest fan, was impressed by him here.
Can’t get enough of the Emperor!!!

Your comment earlier about only getting goose bumps when it's the Emperor or Primarchs got me wanting to hear some tales of them. Absolutely love these.
It's interesting how this leads to Abbidon's sword...
Good read again wolf lord Rho.
I like how the older art portrays the custodians 00:10
The new one is too sleek 10:05
I found this book perplexing. It made things, in this ret conned lore, make more sense to me. But, it also made me confused AF at the same time.
I still do not understand why Big E didn't insta gib Horus. None of the new lore clarifies that for me. The old lore, when Big E wasn't a complete See You Next Tuesday, made him hesitating understandable. This new lore just makes me wonder WTH is going on. *shrug*
Yeah they have an issue with making him a god or making him human. Which is he? A father? Or a murdering despot?
Maybe that’s the point. Simple labels like tyrant or father can’t describe him. He is beyond all that.
@@zanzoy he's not beyond all that, the fact he makes the same mistakes as anyone else shows that
He is a very very powerful and long lived post human.
I had to have a dog put down once it was the right thing to do it was the logical thing to do but I still almost couldn't bring myself to have it done I loved that dog
So imagining the same situation but with a son instead of a friend and needing to do it with my own hands is 1000 times worse I have no idea why people struggle with understanding why the emperor almost didn't do it
He is a human a man that raised and loved his son and almost died just so he wouldn't have to suffer killing him
I absolutely love listening to these videos. It’s great to listen to them as I’m painting my miniatures. Awesome stuff. Please keep them coming. 👍🏻👍🏻
Man I love you're videos so much, I get goosebumps when I listen to them.
I would like to see you as a guest on adeptus podcastus wolf lord! You can always hear your passion for warhammer 👌
Abbadon is getting closer to the emperor with DRACH’NYEN. Will they meet again, It’ll be interesting to see what happens. The emperor might return again to fight the demon one last time or will it be his death as stated.

Would you consider upload this to a podcast platform your videos are great
Great novel

When Abbadon finally conquers the imperium of man he will make a proclamation. That "he has created the greatest empire in humanities history." And it will be at that moment that his sword awakens and consumes him. The emperor's plan fulfilled.

Firstly, love the videos :)
Secondary, could I sugest that you distinguish between your comments and reading. Changing or haulting of music for example or maybe implementing a narrative voice to make a clear distinction between the writing and your opinion.

What's the background music?
Children of The Omnissiah.
"Perhaps one day, but not today"
I think he saw the future. Drachnyen is imprisoned as abaddons sword. So technically he WOULD be the emperor's death. Even if it was abaddons hand on it. I think abaddon will kill him and in that moment give birth to the new true God of mankind.
Interesting note... Gaoler is an archaic spelling of Jailer. Gaol = Jail.
Why does the emperor tell him to run
I'm sorry I'm a little confused here if anyone is willing to help
2 possibilities. Either he wanted to get that demon far away from him and his Custodes because of what its capable of, or he had future plans for the demon and knew that one day it would be Abaddon's sword.
Is there any way to increase the volume for these? Mobile user here
agreed mobile is all i hv
Drachnyen in sword form chose Abaddon as its wielder, i guess it is powerful enough to have free will over who can benefit from its might
Would be amazing if he were to meet up with kaldor drago
What could the amulet vulkan gave actually do though? It's some doomsday weapon. But I just cant fathom what it actually does.
It blows up the golden throne, and the psychic shockwave pretty much annihilates the entire daemon horde besieging Terra and plus. Effectively erasing them from the warp, meaning they can't come back. This would cripple Chaos so much they would necer recover from it. That's what I understood at least
Dude you should do audio books
Based on when cain killed abel from the bible. The echo of the first murder exists. It is called the mark of cain and it walk this world still.
I thought the webway was created by the old ones and the warp was something else, so how did demons get the webway.
Magnus and his trip to warn big e, blasted a massive hole in the webway
It’s a teaching moment. Big daddy E took one for the team to teach the ones closest to him that he is capable of dying.
I'm curious, would it be possible for an eldar to slay mankind's first murder?
In this case the demon isn't tied to the Eldar.
Would be the same result as now, you must kill all of humanity in order to kill him.
@@michealarchangel637 I kind of feel bad when Chaos has this type of demon. They probably even have 1 for each race as well.
One must wonder if he was born of a murder committed by the Emperor.
Funny that this is a daemon that can wound the Emperor. Most dissolve as soon as he approaches.
Anathema.
Separate, but still a warp entity and therefore vulnerable to the big E’s aura of good-eggery.
This is how the Emperor dies.....Abaddon rips him from the throne and drives the blade Drach'nyen through him.
