The funniest thing about the game Dev tycoon troll is that it wound up backfiring in the best way possible. Once a certain demographic of players found out about it, they intentionally downloaded the pirated copy to do challenge runs, even if they owned a legitimate copy. Leading to the devs making it a standard optional feature in the main game.
Imagine the uproar today if a game made fun of you for letting your character get fat while portraying it realistically due to the health and life impacts.
Mojoworld on the first X-Men game on Sega Genesis...there was a time bomb set to go off if u didn't finish the level in time. You get to the final boss screen and defeat Mojo, but there's nothing else there to stop the bomb from going off, and you're stuck at this screen. You had to actually press the reset button on the Sega Genesis console itself to finish the level.
Honestly, I think the Dio thing is kinda neat. Sure, you can't use him on day levels, but it's cool that they actually accounted for the lore. Makes it more memorable as a fighter trait.
I fell for the mgs trick. It was into the night and had been playing for hours and before playing I read in the manual that if you had been playing too long, the game would let me know. I freaked out. Turned to console off and went to bed.
The batman one was really f. Stu. Because that's not what happen when a game crash on consoles, on the 360 era when a game crash either it get stuck without you can do anything, or the consoles like the play station start to make sounds
Oh I remember Arkham Asylum all right. Had to restart my laptop a few times wondering whether it was broken. Didn't even notice Scarecrow's face on the moon until the 3rd or 4th time LMAO.
There's a gun in Cave Story, starts off as a really strong weapon. Leveling it up once makes it unbelievably awesome. Leveling it up twice makes you a god of projectiles... Leveling it up three times turns it into a useless hunk of crap that shoots rubber ducks.
I definitely fell for the MGS 2 trick…it just got too meta and it creeped me out. As soon as colonel said turn the game off I did it without hesitation scared as hell 😂😂😂

you forgot to add for zelda, in tears of the kingdom you can get the hestus gift again but it has an extra layer to it which makes fun of players more as its a bigger pile of crap

The Metal Gear Solid 2 "turn off the console" probably got even more people than it normally would because a handful of years prior you had the X-Men game for the Sega Genesis which told you to "Reset the computer!!!" and you actually had to hit the RESET button on the Genesis to cause the game to continue, or else you'd just be stuck there until time ran out and you died. So you have a game conditioning you to turn it off for a moment, and then about 8 years later Kojima comes in with "Turn the console off, Raiden!!!" I wonder how many people went "Aw $*@*, here we go again!" and then found out "Crap, I shouldn't have done that!"
I liked Bane in BL2. I only ever swapped it in when I got pinned down, but if you can't move much anyway the side effect isn't a problem. Of course, if you get stuck in a corner or something in any borderlands game you have an entire different set of problems...
In the previous Jump Force game Sanji absolutely CAN *NOT* hurt a female combatant, regardless of which series said female character comes from. What’s more, his grab attack actually hurts HIMSELF since he cozies up next to his female opponent and they slap him, dealing damage to him in the process. The first time it happened I was like “the hell?” but after realizing why it’s happening I was quite satisfyingly amused.
Super Mario 64 where you collect every coin in the game to see Yoshi thus having been to litterally every spot you could go to in the game. Yoshi comes up, gives you 100 lives and pisses off. Like, what good is 100 lives? You just did everything the game had to offer....
Actually, you are able to get to the top of Princess Peach’s Castle by collecting every STAR in Super Mario 64, not every Coin. You kind of made an error that I’m helping you fix.
Surely the franchise (and despite only having one game, I'm considering it a franchise) most focussed around messing with players is The Stanley Parable. Like, that's it's entire shtick. That or Undertale.
The "Sanity Meter" also makes me think of a game called "Galariens" but in that is was a "psychic meter" and the lower it got, your character got a massive headache and basically blew up everyone's heads as he'd walk near.
When it cam to metal gear I was playing at 1am after a long binge and holy crap was that a mind fuq I was genuinely terrified that I was losing it then snake came and saved me 😅
