    Congratulations, you just leveled up on the Pentaholic scale. Definitely not for beginners. There is an official video of this song but this live version is special, thanks to the Red Bull...LOL Love your reactions, keep up the good work!

    Mitch is high on Red Bulls (an energy drink) for this performance. As you say, usually he is quite shy and subdued, but apparently he was jet-lagged before the show, so he downed a couple of Red Bulls. You have to be a true Pentaholic to appreciate this clip since the audio and video quality are so poor, but we get to see both Avi and Mitch in extreme mode. To begin with, Avi destroys the speakers with his subterranean note before "Aha!" even begins, so for the rest of the clip most of the bass line is just fuzzy background noise. Then Mitch takes a giant leap out of his usual persona and slays the lead, hitting his high notes in full drama, to the delight of his fans. Their official video of "Aha!" is not nearly so much fun. In some ways the performance and recording are a mess, but it is such an epic PTX moment, real fans love it to bits. That's why we never recommend it to newbies. You have to know them and love them to appreciate what you are witnessing. Glad you were able to appreciate some of the uniqueness of this PTX treasure.

      For me, I honestly didn't appreciate it fully until after watching the music video. Hearing the song for the first time without knowing the notes, the bad quality of this video made me wonder why people were so enthusiastic about it. I rewatched after the official video and it made much more sense!

    "A joy to watch" - yes, yes it is.... I love this video, I know it's not the best quality, but that makes it all the more raw and real. Mitch went off, and although I love all his smiles - the one at the end of this makes my heart melt.

    Imogen Heap is and will always be one of Mitch's vocal influences growing up. This song has it's own evolution. It has changed so much through out the years. The one thing that I love the most is that this is one of the songs where the theatrics comes out of Mitch so strongly! The more they kept singing it in concert the more theatrical it became. I think this is one of the Pentatonix staple pieces where Mitch can shine and this specific recoding is a PENTAHOLIC classic, high on the pedestal. Thanks for your great reaction 🙏🏾❤️

Recommendations: "Can't Sleep Love" live at Popspring 2016 (professional video); "No" live performance (where Mitch is wearing a black bow-tie); "I Saw Three Ships" and "Carol of the Bells" from BYUTV Christmas Under the Stars; "Somebody to Love" from Queen Sing A Long, "Joyful Joyful" and "We Need a Little Christmas" (wearing yellow) from the Evergreen Tour 2021.

    Avi on those deep notes and you can hear Scott, Kirstie and Kevin (he is off screen), All five of them are superb but this fan cam focused on Mitch and what a treat that was for us all. For the lyrics and better audio quality there is a PTX music video for this which is also very, very cool, you should react to that as well. This is a cover of Aha by Imogene Heap.

    Yes bass singers can damage speakers. There are several videos showing both Avi and Tim Foust damaging venue speakers. Acapella bands often carry their own sound equipment that is bass rated to avoid that.

      After Avi left and PTX kept doing "Aha!", they tried a couple of intro ideas, from just launching directly into the song cold, to, for some bizarre, unknown reason, doing "Greensleeves" for the intro. That was a big Fail.

      There’s a really good version that doesn’t get heard enough - it goes on into the next song, Rihanna’s 4 5 Seconds and that is the title it goes under on UA-cam, hence it doesn’t come up when you search Aha. It’s clearer and, I believe, professionally made. Not the same performance but same songs.

    • @darsynia
      @darsynia 2 роки тому

      I will ALWAYS be sad that it seems like the Sing Off judges completely missed commenting on the whistle tones (or chose not to highlight it, more likely, because if you don't know what they are, the explanation would have taken too much showtime. So it's VERY likely that got cut out of the show) because that's an advantage that PTX had for that show! What I love is they grow and learn and encourage each other and that aspect is just one of the things Avi brought to the group. They're leaders in their field for musicality, for camaraderie, for encouragement, and for sheer joy of the craft, honestly.

  • @danielcarter837

    Scott and Kirstin doing all the syncopated background parts is hard to do in a studio environment where you can do it over and adjust things electronically in mixing. The difficulty of doing this live is about a 20 on a scale of 1 to 10. Crowd noise, sound delays (just a fact with sound traveling through cords and wi-fi) the adrenaline of being in front of a crowd, and anything else that can happen live, this is a whole other level talent and discipline. If any of them get off track or off beat doing this song it could turn into a train wreck in a hurry. I don't think there are too many people, outside of these special five, that could do this and do it that well.

    Always love reactions to this! Mitch, you'll notice with live stuff, tends to get bouncy on stage, lol. He was really in the moment on this one, it seems. His little smile at the end does me in. It's like, "yep, killed that." His vocal work well before the show-stopper notes blows my mind. He does a run just prior that was so intricate and seemingly effortless I want to live in it. When he gets off the floor and starts physically picking the notes out of the air, the dynamic changes are **chef's kiss** and then the drama crys before he does "1,2,3," and points to Avi? I don't even know what he was doing up there, but it was sorcery.
