Wow. That's a similar story to a crystal mine in ... Arkansas if my memory isn't swiss cheese this morning. They were digging something mundane and found acres of crystals, not only the Herkimer type of gemstones. For the non-geology types, Herkimer diamonds are quartz crystals, not the hard diamonds. The value of these crystals is the clarity of the stone and the perfect crystaline shapes: double terminated, well defined sides, etc. Those into Metaphysics use clear quartz crystals for Health and Mental well being. For collectors: it is the perfection of the crystal that drives the price. No, these are not jewelry stones, it is the raw crystaline shape that collectors want. What an awesome story! Thanks for bringing us along!
I've been a collector of crystals and as you say the goal is perfect shape and clarity, if applicable. Personally, I wouldn't pay those prices for what appear to be very flawed crystals. Just my opinion.

Having pounded that incredibly hard rock in Herkimer to get two tiny crystals, I can't imagine digging in soft dirt for those huge beauties! Happy for Chad!
Thank you for sharing. My son and I used to dig in Colorado near Topaz Point and found many fantastic crystals, smoky quartz, and amazonite. One day I found a spear point while he was shooting his bb gun and found out the spear point dated around 1100 AD from the same area we were finding the crystals.. Your video is amazing and brings back memories..ty.
Being from upstate new york, and living in Herkimer for a few years, the route 28 area is one of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen in my entire life. And to find Herkimer diamonds it is always a bonus!
Chad and Maggie are two of the nicest people I've ever met, glad you could visit and experience the treasure that their land is CONSISTENTLY producing. I have personally found two softballs and many, many nice crystals.
I love digging for gems !!! I’d spend everyday doing it if I could. Good on you for doing 1 of the best things to do and the funnest! Thank you for taking us on the great adventure!!!!
Awesome video! I love stuff like this. I like the discovery of things, Bottle digging, Minerals, Metal detecting, anything like that. It's that initial rush you get when you find something cool.
This was so interesting. I’d never heard of a herkimer diamond. I had to go read up on it a bit before watching the episode. So amazing. So fun to see.
You should come to Diamond Point near Payson, AZ in the fall/winter (digging allowed from Oct 1 through feb 28 each year) to dig for Herkimer Diamonds.
I had never ever heard of Herkimer Diamonds until i saw the episode where you were at the KOA mining them out of the rockwall. What exactly do they do with Herkimer diamonds?? Do they make jewelry like they do with other diamonds? I have often thought about a family camping trip there to spend a day doing this. Thanks for sharing Brad always exciting to see you partake in different forms of treasure hunting! Keep up the great work!
Good morning Mr I've been following gypu for a while but toayaly in awe over this video for this is just around the corner an also have extensive collection as well an know also have a deer friend lives nearly next to it an has bought land from them Keep up rhe amazing work and finds
Wow Brad! These are amazing! I remember the other video you did in Herkimer also. I am a hug fan of crystals and that's basically how my metal detecting channel here started 😆 So cool! Thanks for sharing! I haven't had a chance to go to herkimer yet, but I'd sure love to. I enjoy going to Maine and doing some mining there at a few places.
Wikipedia (I was curious too): Herkimer diamonds are double-terminated quartz crystals discovered within exposed outcrops of dolomite in and around Herkimer County, New York, and the Mohawk River Valley in the US. They are not diamonds; the "diamond" in their name is due to both their clarity and well formed faces.
Quartz , not good for anything except looking at , calling them diamonds is a lie people selling them use to scam people into thinking they are more than just quartz
Brad, I grew up down the shore in New Jersey and in Cape may, they have Cape May Diamonds, which are, I believe similar to the Herkimers but no where as abundant. Great Day! Cheers,, Rik Spector
I always thought of going through this hobby. What metal detector brand and model you recommend please? mainly soil/fields and artefacts are coins, military bits and pieces etc...thanks
Some very beautiful crystals. If you like digging for them then a vacation in Mt, Ida Arkansas is called for. Lots of crystal mines and one in the national forest
Also those types of quartz crystals are unique to only a few locations in the world being double terminated and slightly harder on the mohs scale than regular quartz.
@@OG_Bearcat terminated means it comes a point. When you think of a crystal you usually think of a perfect shape where The facets come to a point on top. Double terminated would mean that at both ends it comes to a point on the crystal. Double terminated as much rarer than one single termination.

What a glorious day to find such amazing and beautiful diamonds, and so quickly. WOW!
Brad, so amazing. Herkimer diamond hunting is on our bucket list in the next couple years. Thank you for sharing!😊
And the coolest thing is that each of those crystals is waaaaaaay older than any coin you ever found!😮
Like any rock you can find....
Diamonds?? Quartz crystals maybe!! There a site in Montana that looks exactly the same!!
@@ZubeneshemaliIt's just a general name for the quartz crystals in the area. Clear like diamonds.
No it isn’t , the metal in the coins was made billions of years ago when stars were made , the fake diamonds are millions of years at best

It is always fun to get down in the mud and get dirty. There are some nice rocks there.
We’re going there in a few weeks and I can’t wait!
So cool. I dug Herkimer diamonds years ago such fun still have them
2:12, nice long range hammer tacker in the window! Great finds, they are so pretty.
Wonderful!! It reminds me of the amethyst mines in northern Ontario (Canada), again, they are quartz , but valued for the colour
That looks like a lot of fun.
Awesome 👍👍❤️
Every kids dream! Be able to dig in yer yard, have fun in the dirt!
What a cool experience! I was considering a trip to the Arkansas crystal mines. So cool!
This is just a fun video. 😊 Maybe it's just all those crystals. Lol. Enjoy the weekend.
