Winter Morning at Flinders Street Station - June 2022

It's about 7am on the first morning of winter 2022, it's raining and about 8 degrees Celsius.. good time to go watch some trains? The city is just waking up and the morning peak just beginning. We start outside at the intersection of Flinders and Swanston Streets. Platforms 4 & 5 are a great spot to see a variety of trains, and we quite quickly see examples of every type of current Melbourne Electric train: Comeng (both EDI and Alstom varieties), X'trapolis, Siemens and HCMT. The rain slowly gets heavier, and eventually we board Comeng motor car 656M bound for Upfield.

I remember working night shifts at the down end of the Flinders Street Station for the metro tunnel works, right around platform 14. Crazy cold, and humid. Man I miss being on site.

Shivered on that platform many times the wind chill can be quite severe. Long overdue Flinders Street station needs a complete rebuild especially a roof.

There's an alarm that sounds under Fed Square when trains run in/out of the northern loop entrance, I assume it's to alert track workers, but it is an unusual feature.
