Thank you so much for this video with every day solutions. My husband just got an nephrostomy bag and I was extremely nervous about how to take care of it and how he would live with it. You have offered a huge ray of optimism and sunshine! Thank you so much!
Johns Hopkins Hospital told me to kep the site dry or you can get a really bad infection that is hard to get rid of. I use a product called Aqua Guard. It is a thick plastic sheet with adhesive on all 4 sides and it covers the area before you go to shower. Still try not to get it wet,
I had one of these NEPH tubes after my PCNL surgery Nov. 30th. After the tube was removed several days later by the Interventional Radiologist, I experience very bad lower back muscle spasms. They finally subsided after 3 hours. I was still in the Radiologist Dept. waiting to go home and they din't seem to know why it was happening. I was very tense (even with some mild sedation) while they were removing the Tube. is it normal to have these back spasms?? It was pretty bad! Thanks!!
Hi Kathryn! Thank you for the very informative video. May I ask for a copy of the nephrostomy site care sheet that you mentioned at the end of the video? I work at a urology office and would love to share that with our patients.
depends on the drainage etc that you get from the insertion area...My tubes used to weep a lot but not so much anymore so eventually you will need very little bandaging...
and bags are used only once and ask for extra bags if you can get them as sometimes they need replaced because of bag leaks etc. and are costly online...

how often do you need to change the bandaging? also, are the bags for one use and only?
thank you!
