I watched this as a result of Donald Macleod talking about it on "Composer of the Week", BBC Radio 3, 28.11.13. He mentioned that the film doesn't make much sense and wondered if the King had the Duke assassinated because the Duke looks better in tights.
Thank you for posting this work, the quality is absolutely spectacular. For those looking for more information regarding the composition of the work, I invite you to view our video on the history of Saint-Saens's score for the film. Exploring Music - The First Ever Film Score
Interesting to catch up with such an early influential film. Will have to hunt out a copy with English translation as my French too poor to follow all of it. Wasn't this originally shown with a recorded score or was it just the first with specially composed music?, And if so, do the cylinders / discs survive? I expect not. Robert Smith
This music is TERRIBLE, the scoring alone being slipshod and annoying. I honestly wonder if someone else did it and passed it off as being by Saint-Saens.
Thanks for uploading this historic great piece of my favourite art.

not bad for the first (known) film score of all time!
It does end rather abruptly...
This film is incomplete! Does anyone know where I can find the whole 20 minute original?
its only 15 minutes I believe...where did you hear it was 20?
There seems to be something missing. Wasn't there a fire involved?

The music is wonderful but the recording is terrible - this is definitely the Saint-Sains score. I have the printed score.
Your wonder doesn't count...
