Also, remember that the spec sheet for the Behringer C1 shows an almost flat response between 100 Hz and 1 kHz. So, the bass is not exaggerated. In contrast, the SM7b has a lot of proximity effect, boosting the bass. If you'd like the Behringer C1 to sound warmer, boost the low frequencies with an equalizer, and you'll get that.

Horses for courses. Technically a good condenser should be better on most cases but so much comes down to tuning and polar pattern. I have an SM7B and a Lewitt 440 and both can capture great voice but the Shure is more forgiving when it comes to plosives and placement.

Another real world comparison video, although it is definitely in the Shure’s favor. It does however show that Behringer products are not as bad as the gear snobs online claim. Great video.👍

Thanks for this - a useful comparison in my case :) I just picked up a C-1 over the ditch here in NZ for $85 - to try as a mic for ham radio! It seems crisp as you say, which is good for radio. I did have to operate on my C-1 to get the frame grounding working properly - there's a very liberal coat of black paint on the inner frame, which extends to the mounting screws of upper body .. screws are completely painted - threads and washers too! Fixed that and the hum is gone. I'm running it into the small Behringer Xenyx Q502 mixer and find I have to advance the input gain nearly all the way up as the mic output is a tad low. This doesn't help noise of course, and there is a fair amount of hiss when compared with higher quality mics, which are significantly higher in audio output. So that's my main observation - lower output level per given vocal than other better quality condenser mics.
Thanks again for your review work .. keep it going!!
    Chris

C1 is brighter and clearer but it's going to require a windscreen and or an angled placement if you want to use it with proximity effect.

Dude, I had the money to buy the SMB7, but after I watched this I used money to buy a pair of C-1!!! I’m making a podcast with some friends and I said “I’ve always wanted the Shure, but damn, the C-1 sounds amazing”
