There is a wrong information here; he said that to slow down the up force should be greater than the down force which is not correct. If the up force is greater than the down force she will go up !!! the correction is : the up force should increase to slow down the falling speed.
The video is correct - confusingly, an upwards resultant force doesn't necessarily mean that an object moves upwards - it means that it moves upwards _relative to where it originally was_ - that is, it slows down/decelerates.
