I agree wholeheartedly with your review. I felt it was a decent book, but I enjoyed the Bill Hodges trilogy more. However, I really wish King would go back to straight up horror stories. The thrillers are fine, but classic King horror is what he's really good at. Congratulations to you and Danielle on your new son! So very happy for you both, he is ADORABLE!

Stephen King is one of my all-time favorite authors, I was really looking forward to this, but I was so disappointed I wanted my money back. I wish I would’ve just got it from the library, Holly was just so unlikable as a character in this book and I’ve always been OK with her in the other books, but yes, this book was just irritating on so many levels, I also was not a fan of the person reading the audiobook.

I got to say people reading this in the future will probably appreciate the history King put in the book regarding Covid and his views on politics. But since we have been living through it, we are all kind of over it. That set aside, Holly has such a great story line that I really enjoyed. Those that haven't read Bill Hodges Trilogy (Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers and End of Watch) and If it Bleeds novella, be warned that Holly will spoil those books.

Congratulations on the sweet boy! Thank you for reviewing this. I am a big King Fan myself and I was really hesitating in buying this. Good reads, everyone reviewing are just attacking each other. I’m like… well if I read it, I might not want to review it 😂

Totally agree. Solid story, but the political rhetoric was heavy and made me so tired of the book. Which is sad, because it’s a great story regardless. I’m glad I pushed passed it though. Congratulations on the birth of your son! 💙

That happens went people by books just for the name. They write whatever any still make money. King and others are not for me for that reason.

COMPLETELY agree with your review. King always sprinkles in politics into most his books, this was an absolute monsoon politically, my gawd! And the way they talked about it was so ridiculous. Just absolutely awful, so unnecessary, distracting, omfg I couldn’t… it was really painful. Agonizingly so. This one went so far above and beyond. It was like I was reading his twitter feed rather than his novel.
Really hope he goes away from politics in his next book bc between this one and Billy summers Wowzers. I hate politics in fiction reads, I’m reading to escape.
With all the said and ranted. The main story line was great! LOVED the Harrises so damn creepy! Overall 3 star for me and my least fav out of this, outsider, and bill Hodges trilogy. Those books were all 4 and 5 stars for me.
    Congrats on the baby boy!

From story line to characters to resolution, everything was his worst performance in a novel.
To have such an anticlimactic ending with such a soft climax is an embarrassment to his other great works of art.
After this, I need a several year break from Stephen King and his newly found pandering to a certain audience.
If you want a standalone King novel, try The Institute, The Stand, Fairy Tale, Billy Summers, or Under the Dome instead. Holly was the longest listen/read I’ve forced myself through in nearly a decade.

Congratulations on the baby. Also, I've been glad most reviews of this book has basically said the same thing, that the politics got old. I go further. I'm not a Trump supporter or hater, I'm like you when you say you don't political talk, but I swear SK has been putting in Trump bashing in every book since he was president. It got old a long time ago. I look forward to a book when it's stopped.

This is another Great King read, a very enjoyable thriller and I really don’t see any problem with this book, was just hoping that The Harris’ were more shapeshifters!
So what if King hates Trump, he’s not alone and as for Covid, WHO knows exactly how it all started?? His opinions being integrated into this book (others too btw) matters not as most authors do this and there’s very little included here.

Congratulations to you and Danielle on the birth of your son! I’m so excited for all of you. As far as the book goes, I found the politics in Holly deeply disturbing. I was one of the careful mask wearers and I had three Pfizer jabs total. However, one of my dearest friends made no changes in his life. He even went so far as attending “secret” Sunday school sessions. Not illegal but definitely frowned upon in an area of high COVID19 cases. He did contract the virus, was put on a ventilator but died. This book made me feel like King was saying if someone didn’t follow the COVID19 rules, they deserved to die. It seemed so judgmental to me. In recent years I have witnessed people quit speaking to their friends and family members over politics. It is sickening and I sure don’t want to be reminded of it in a book. I hope King leaves politics out of his next book. I was extremely excited about the release of Holly and preordered it months ago. I was so disappointed and I won’t preorder again, I will wait for reviews then make up my mind.

Can’t wait to get to this book! In the middle of my dark tower journey then I’ll need to read the Mercedes trilogy. But I’ll get there. I will say you’re not the first I’ve heard point out the political stuff so that has me a little bummed cause I’m the same with you, leave it out.

King needs to lay off CNN and get back on drugs because King on coke was more fun back in the day. Holly was the book that really burned me out on Kings politics, for his future books, If I find out that he is still whining about Trump or whatever, I'm just going to skip it and not waste my time from now on. I'll support his books down the road if he can move the f@@@ on from Trump and stop being so bitter over the 2016 election.

  • @wrv341
    @wrv341 9 місяців тому +8

Congrats! I'm on the opposite side of politics than King but I still don't care that King has opposing views or even puts it in his books now and again. The issue is that the book dates itself so poorly because of the abundance of it. I mean, COVID, seriously?? The guy who wrote the book about a pandemic that killed 99% of humanity due to corruption of the most unimaginable kind thinks claiming COVID came from a lab was xenophobic.

Reason I don’t purchase any of Kings new books is I don’t want to read about his politics ,he’s gone from putting his life experiences in his books as a bases for the characters to his politics ,it’s a no thanks from me Mr King even though I’ve got nearly all his books except the new politically infused editions from the past few years.
