My belovéd Mother passed away suddenly on 5 April 2023. This Psalm was one of her late husband's favourites, and in memory, it will be sung in this version at her funeral on Friday 14 April 2023. Thank you for all you done for me, your friendship and guiding hand over the past 50 years. Requiescat in Pace, Mummy.... I too will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help...' 😪😪😪
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills : from whence cometh my help. My help cometh even from the Lord : who hath made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved : and he that keepeth thee will not sleep. Behold, he that keepeth Israel : shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord himself is thy keeper : the Lord is thy defence upon thy right hand. So that the sun shall not burn thee by day : neither the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil : yea, it is even he that shall keep thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out, and thy coming in : from this time forth for evermore Psalm 121
A very exquisite setting of this psalm. In its sound of simplicity there is much emotion. The following Requiem(when used at a funeral service) is also very moving and enduring in time. Again another English composer who triumphs chorally.
Wonderful chant any day. I greatly appreciate this psalm and well done choir for a scintillating rendition. Thanks for uploading, Sheebp. Kindly upload Psalm 147 and 148 by Cambridge Choir if you have them. They are awesome for our worship of the Lord of Hosts. Thank you.
There's also a short setting of Requiem Aeternam that Davies wrote I think to follow the psalm when it is used at a burial service in place of the Gloria Patri. I forget exactly where I heard but I think it might have been on one of the old recordings of this psalm by Sir David Willcocks and the choir of King's College Cambridge. I remember it being very lovely...and spooky!
Oh My Lord Great God Lord Jehovah. You are so Awesome! Such a Beautiful Hymn. King David was really a man after God's own 💜💜💜💜💜💜. Beautiful, just Beautiful. Praise Be The Name of The Living God The Greatest of them All. JEHOVAH GOD
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip-he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. - Psalm 121:2-4
It is a sad reality that some people, who are imbued in the study of the sciences, only see things in terms of mathematical equations, and fail to understand that music is the shorthand of emotion - the vernacular of the human soul.
Many mathematicians and scientists are accomplished musicians or music lovers. It is a sad reality that those who have never achieved any understanding of mathematics and science are not able to appreciate the full majesty of God's hand at work.
One of Walford Davies's greatest pieces, oft performed by both the Temple Church choir and the Templars under his successor, George Thalben Ball. In my view, this should never be performed outside London.
It is from the first (?) English translation of the Bible by Miles Coverdale (1488 - 1569). Coverdale’s version is the one you will find in the first 1549 Anglican Book of Common Prayer.* It is still in use today unchanged, mostly in the 1660 revised version of the Prayer Book; it differs slightly from the translation found in the later King James Bible of 1605. * it is also used by many other - usually Anglican related - churches around the world.
This psalm makes me feel better. I love this psalm

That's why I'm here today, 20 September 2022

Oh, how this wonderful psalm brings back a rush of choral memories so many decades ago!
Such a lovely chant. My home choir would always use this chant for the washing of the feet on holy Thursday. Always sounded beautiful

The commentator stopped his prattling only just in time.
