  • I asked ChatGPT to write some code to add to Project TouCans, (a 20m rock locked ham radio on 14057.4 kHz.)
The straight key worked pretty quickly. The next challenge became being able to switch back and forth between the straight key and the auto-keyer. ChatGPT suggested threading, only to later admit, that yeah, threading doesn't work on a Raspberry Pi Pico-W in MicroPython.
The final design fix was to add another input wire to the Pico-W. When I want to switch back to auto-keying, I can install a jumper between the ring of the 3.5 mm stereo plug, (now connected to GPIO-14 on the Pico-W.) The straight key routine detects this and defers operation back over the straight keyer.
The straight key is up and working! Also? There's no Bluetooth audio delay for the sidetone with the new audio setup. There was however, a hum. I'm charging the battery for the rig because usually audio hums on TouCans are caused by the buck converter in the rig's power brick turning on at low charge.
    Not exciting, but good documentation.
