My Ares Pro was too big for me. Im 5’3” 118# and the Ares sat too high in the water for me, while it sat much lower and ran better for my bigger body size friends. Just tried the Cantare. Wow, its the canoe for me! Its what I’ve been hoping for. I have narrow hips and there is plenty of room for me in the seat. Sitting closer to the water, it ran much better and there was a much better body mechanic. She ran really fast when I backed off on the power and paddled light. I could handle carrying and loading the canoe much easier too. Thank you for designing an OC-1 for someone my size.

First! LOL. The Cantare runs really well and carries speed for a noticeably longer period of time relative to the other Puakea canoes. I’m 195 pounds and I feel I can paddle it well :)

I’m in Canada 🇨🇦 and never had a chance to paddle any of these canoes. I’m surprised at 195#, you are not considered too heavy for the Cantare. I’m a retired distance, open ocean paddler, but will be moving to northern BC which is the Lake District. I wish to return to paddling. Would you recommend the Volare more for more flat water on lakes? I’m lighter than you at 6’2” 180~185#s. Thanks!

@@ShikokuFoodForest Aloha! I think a lot of people were surprised at how well javier paddlers who were 20 or even 30 pounds were doing on the Cantare.I had one of my visually impaired paddlers who is around 225 surfing small wakes in the harbor here in Newport Beach. My initial comment was simply about how well the boat performed with larger people on it - it was surprising to not see it suck with heavier paddler on it.
From a recommendation standpoint, at your weight (at which i’ve thankfully joined you😂), the Volare is the better choice. Factor in your height, and it’s even more of a no brainer.
The Draco is also good in flat water. A used Kahele in flat water is a good alternative.
      Hope this helps!

So I’m a 5’7” guy, 170lbs, thick, muscular, short legs and short arms, and a 7.5 shoe. I paddle here on the Big Island, mostly Keauhou Bay. Will my weight be an issue in this OC1?

The Cantare can hold people up to about 180 Lbs before the performance starts to drop off where we would recommend the Volare. But if you consider yourself faster than most of the folks around you then the Volare might still be the better choice. The Cantare has less resistance at slower hull speeds which makes it accelerate very quickly. But at about 6.5-7mph the length of the Volare makes it glide a little better between strokes and that is not as noticeable at slower speeds where an average female paddler spends a majority of their time. The Volare will probably be better in downwind conditions if thats what you want the canoe to do. But the Cantare will likely be faster in a time trial.
I would contact P3Kona our dealer on the Big Island to schedule a demo and see if you like it. www.p3kona.com/
