She died the year before I was born and I still get sad at the fact that she passed. She was so young and left too soon. She would have gone very far for sure. Rest In Peace Aaliyah. I am a living fan of your music and appreciate you putting something good into this world.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ngl, I’m more of a rock guy and this still goes hard. If it wasn’t rock my mother was listening to (bear in mind it usually was), it was probably R&B, and Aaliyah was without a doubt a low key favorite of mine just for this one song. Listening to it and paying closer attention to the lyrics, hot DAMN it hits different than I remember. That’s not even mentioning that it’s a collab with Timbaland, which honestly is awesome unto itself. His vocal work (am I picking up on some beatboxing from him as well?) blends with Aaliyah’s voice like caramel syrup and vanilla ice cream (hands down though, any other lead vocalist than Aaliyah and it probably wouldn’t sound anywhere close to complete). The rhythms and melodies of the instrumentals? Holy moly. They’re all smooth as a bass riff, namely that super-compressed clean guitar strumming along with the drum and bass hum. It makes Aaliyah’s death even more tragic since she could’ve dominated the R&B scene through the 2010s into the 2020s for sure. Collaborating with more artists like Timbaland (dare I suggest T-Pain without the autopilot pitch corrector? His raw voice is pretty damn smooth, after all) would’ve been the cherry on top. If only… RIP Aaliyah Dana Haughton, 1979-2001.
I had a feeling this was back in the day. Judging from the music and the vibe it gives off.. Good to know the radio station is still bringing 90s music back😭😭
