Every reviewer has a different style of how they do things. You tend to give background on the company, so when you explain features of a car (good or bad) there is a sense of a motive behind what they as a company chose to do. You can't always have everyone on your side, Steve, but I for one really enjoy the videos and wouldn't have it any other way. Good on you mate
I like the uncluttered dash layout and controls; some of the new small SUV's have more buttons and gadgets than necessary. The vehicle is not a drag racer, so it does have ample horsepower-and it IS rated to tow 3500lbs if the trailer has brakes (as most do if they approach that weight). The premium gas is RECOMENDED, not mandatory. I emailed Mitsubishi and they re-affirmed that. I would say it is one of the best values in the small SUV class. I will probably go out and buy one this week.
They call it Brake Control. Steering response and vehicle stability have been enhanced through the use of a yaw control sensor to more precisely control yaw rate by applying brake pressure on the inner wheel for improved composure.
Mitsu have the same issue in AUstralia. The aus head was quoted as saying "We know our models are outdated and not overly competitive in this market, that needs to change"
If it's same as EVO active yaw control which I was told it is then this is not like you are saying. It use hydraulic clutches to send TQ to the wheel that needs it.
When the brand is a major part of the story, as it is with the 2014 Outlander, it's an integral part of the review. I never root for brands to fail i.e. Isuzu, Suzuki - it's actually the complete opposite. But just because the CEO of a company tells you they're not pulling out of a market doesn't mean I have to believe it...they all say that. Mitsu's products are not competitive right now. How long do they expect dealers to hold on?
I perfectly agree. The Outlander would serve as a viable left-field option for those who really don't want another Rav4 or CR-V on the street, it is otherwise dated design and mechanical-wise. My father owns a 09 Outlander so frequent visits to dealer for service means I often can see this vehicle. We took one for a day during service and it was just as loud and unrefined as the outgoing 'shark-mouth' Outlander. You think they improve on NVH after 5 years, but alas Mitsubishi did not. Interior quality is much improved, but it doesn't take much to improve on Playskool-grade plastics. The standard features card is probably the main call, but the competitors have such a better overall package it makes the Outlander feel dated in comparison (e.g. Forester, Rogue & Escape). For near ~$38,000 they charge for a top-line GT S-AWC model in Canada, I would get a Forester 2.5XT Limited, Tiguan Highline 4motion or Escape 2.0T Titanium.
I guess you'll never read this, but why on earth would you care what I think AFTER you already purchased one? I say this all the time: as long as YOU like your car no other opinion should matter. I review cars to help people with their purchasing decisions...to make sure they get the most for their money. And as I said in my piece, I'm rooting for Mitsu to make it. But the Mirage isn't going to move the needle and I've heard nothing concrete/ at all about a Galant or Montero return.
The Outlander is by no means a small player in Europe. Citroen, Peugeot and ...some other maker have all rebadged the Outlander and sold it as one of their own; with much success. ...not sure if they will be doing it again with the new one though.
Mitsubishi build good cars without a question. The front needs some remodeling with standard HID lights, read camera and Bluetooth. AWD needs to be revised and i can see the new outlander out-competing Rav 4 and CRV.
I doubt that Mitsubishi will be leaving. Mitsubishi and Nissan-Renault partnered up and Mitsubishi will be bringing over the SM3 and SM5 sedans from Renault-Samsung.
With a dying car breed like Mitsubishi, opinions from car buyers don't matter. That's why you have people like like Steve around on UA-cam. I said this a number of times already in the comments below. So don't make me repeat myself for (what feels like) the 100th time!
Great review as always. Mitsu get with the game redesign the eclipse, lancer and galant make them look sporty and feel sporty dont use a cvt and you can make a comeback just dont let the design be like this one its ugly
It's time then, that Mitsubishi should put in a 3.5 liter that runs on regular instead of a 3.0 liter that runs on premium. Maybe THAT will be worth the extra fuel savings.
With an automaker like Mitsubishi, you pretty much HAVE to have great reviews like Steve has. I don't why you are operating like this is the 1990's! IT'S 2013, FOR GOD SAKES!! And with the competition so strong these days, you probably won't see ANY of the brands cars when it's 2014. They'll die in front of your very eyes! Look, if you really are a true Mitsubishi fanatic, hold on to your car while you can before it's time to say goodbye to it at the end of its life.
Just because Ireland and the rest of Europe likes it doesn't mean America has to keep selling them. Mitsubishi has sold ANY of their products in this country, only 60,000. Bottom line: Either the company goes through a MAJOR makeover, or they simply die. Now, I can go with either, but I don't think they're going to survive much longer. (They'll probably make it until 2014.) End of story.
They probably keep their cars for sentimental reasons. Or for sales reasons. Or maybe because they are stuck in the 80's and 90's. Whatever the case, Steve, my guess is that Mitsubishi won't survive when 2014 rolls around. Or, even Suzuki...
i dont know what to say about this Company.i still think that SUV look's nice but the only problem here is pricing their models right.to attract more buyers.the power of less for more or the same is irresistible in the mind of buyers.from my marketing experiance pricing will play hug rule unless they do the real make over with no further increase whats so ever.i own 2002GT Mitsubishi eclipse dependable and reliable parts easy to figure and to fix so far the only issue cheap plastic at dashboard
So, YOU'RE going to act like this is 1995? Well, I'll have YOU know that the competition is getting stronger by the second! AND that Mitsubishi has no IDEA how an American car shopper thinks. They stick to their old school ways and... UGH!! Why do have to keep REPEATING MYSELF HERE?!! Look, people defame companies that are struggling because they ARE STRUGGLING! When it's 2014, they're going to die easily. And that's just 5 months away! So why don't you just get your mind straight already?!
Anton Ch. Ha! I certainly see where you could get that impression but honestly I root for the underdog. Unfortunately, their products have been largely disappointing in recent years. Let’s see what the Nissan tie-up will produce.
People like you are meant for one thing only which is to make false-assumptions and defame companies which are struggling. After heavy negotiations, it will cost you around 30000$ which automatically makes a best buy among all the crossovers in the segment. Please keep your irrelevant comment to your self and i humbly ask you not to reply me back. Have a good one!!!!!
The pro Mitsu reviews are oh so tiring. The same regurgitated crap. Go get a ES-SE AWD 2.4 L and that is all you need for chump change ( $23K nicely equipped) What is resale value anyway? I had 8 Hondas-Acuras and Honda gives you the least on a trade in. If you keep your car who cares about resale. Trade a Mitsu in on another Mitsu and you will get Honda like resale value. Its really all a bunch of nonsense. Take most CUV-SUVs off road and this Outlander will shine. Same for the Outlander Sport- much maligned by copy cat reviewers. I bought one for my parents. They love it and I come from much more expensive cars and I now see I get not much extra for the $25K I spent. With todays economy Mitsubishi will grow and me a winner. Perfect- Nope! But inexpensive with a great warranty and above average reliability. BTW- Premium gas is not essential in the V6. It gives you 4 more hp- no engine damage on 87-89 octane. Again not a problem but go for the 2.4L- you don't need the V6.
"The overall design still feels years behind..." What? behind of what? everything in it's class looks cluttered and a total mess... this thing looks clean and solid! and the Premium is RECOMMENDED, not REQUIRED. I know, I just bought one! The new Outlander will sell well, but like u say at the end, it is not their savior... they better bring a new Lancer and Galant to the market and perhaps one of the two will get them going again... Don't even mention the Eclipse, their has-been movie star
Mitsu- is just afraid to admit what's become obvious; with the huge mistakes of the forgettable Galant and the aberration that became the most recent Eclipse (weren't we promised a production-ready Concept RA as the new Eclipse?), not even the Evo and this half-hearted attempt at a crossover-suv may be enough to save the company.
Nothing in its class is at all impressive... they're all just grocery getter machines, each one built for the most mundane of purposes, you just happen to have a great variety to pick from... now, Mitsu's S-AWC drivetrain is unrivaled (reference: Lancer Evolution X) so that should at least be a good selling point.
Premium gas!? This car is absolutely pointless! It looks bad, no big improvements, and it takes premium!? I would definitely get a Sorento, Santa Fe Sport, or Subaru Outback over this.
Mitsu has gone to the dogs, why can't the parent company provide more funding like Hyundai did for Hyundai+Kia....and Steve, what's with the mom jeans lol
Well I watched a few of your videos before I made that statement and as far as the vehicles high end you had really absolutely nothing bad to say about them. I bought a 2015 outlander and it's the same, and it's different not alot of engine noise very quiet cabin at 80mph. Actually sounds the same like you were sitting parked. they used the the same type of insulation that they did (I believe) that they used on the MPEV.
ugly, underpowered because of the ,sloppy transmission, too little too late i however do think the interior is nice , but the outside looks like a chinese rip off almost like blander corolla
I just got the Outlander GT with the V6 and it handles well with nice features for the price you can't beat it...I love this car
i was making 122mph on my gt v6..didnt know that she could..holy crap i loved it!! Handled amazing !

I was and plan to buy another 2.4L SE AWD myself
They call it Brake Control. Steering response and vehicle stability have been enhanced through the use of a yaw control sensor to more precisely control yaw rate by applying brake pressure on the inner wheel for improved composure.
It is BUT the Brake Control feature is new and in addition to the system you're referencing.
Had ours for 10 years and just gave it away the other day after the transmission went. I’m gonna miss it. Good car…
Mitsu have the same issue in AUstralia. The aus head was quoted as saying "We know our models are outdated and not overly competitive in this market, that needs to change"
Thank you for all of your videos Steve.
Perfect car for its segment back in 2005! Pull it together Mitsubishi!
The front wheels have active yaw control not apply brakes on inside wheels.
If it's same as EVO active yaw control which I was told it is then this is not like you are saying. It use hydraulic clutches to send TQ to the wheel that needs it.
I think it plays much better in emerging markets and in Europe. But it's a bit of an oddball here in the U.S.
When the brand is a major part of the story, as it is with the 2014 Outlander, it's an integral part of the review. the overhangs on this thing both front and rear are strangely proportioned...
Good review, nice car. I like it, but it is a shame the V6 requires premium. I hope Mitsubishi makes it.
test drove it..i liked it!!

True "the writings on the wall" this is their swan song
excellent car

they will still be selling them here because they are popular in the Europe and Ireland and the european countries

34k wow so many better options out there
I really like it

The Nail in the Coffin! They're done!
If thr phev had a third row it'd be a slam dunk, to bad it will only be a 5 passanger
Or real fog...

My Evo X fills up with $55 premium... it's 20 times more relevant than any Volvo s60... your point???

Thanks
Have to agree with you Steve. This ain't Mitsu's savior. Styling, to me, is awfully bland and kinda reminds me of a storm troopers helmet
:50 -- Or a Suzuki story as well...
Dat fog.
Agreed. See my comment below.
Premium gas? No thanks. Movin' on.
People like you are meant for one thing only which is to make false-assumptions and defame companies which are struggling. It looks almost awkward 2014 Range Rover copy.

thats how they got more mpg! :P

what kinda new car loses horsepower from the same engine as the previous model..
i think the CEO and the designers of Mitsubishi they are on smoking weeds a lot this days !! what the hell are they doing ???
Mitsu- is just afraid to admit what's become obvious; with the huge mistakes of the forgettable Galant and the aberration that became the most recent Eclipse (weren't we promised a production-ready Concept RA as the new Eclipse?), not even the Evo and this half-hearted attempt at a crossover-suv may be enough to save the company.
Whats up with that grill??? Looks cheap!

You like what you buy... second your opinion is your opinion everyone has a right to one, neither one is wrong so simmer down.. Mishimoto Down!
That new look is horrible.. the last generation shark nose grill looked better
Not mention the entire car itself. Avoid Mitsubishi as much as possible. They don't know how to perfect cars.
Mitsubishi should just stop selling cars here.
Mitsubishi is digging its own grave, what a shame. This car shows the lack of imagination, design, and common sense by mitsu`s board of directors.
It is ugly and it's resale value will be near zero! I can see them pulling out of North America soon and the resale value will really plummet.
What are you comparing it to?
That's not really good value. Especially that V6 is just so weak
This car belongs in 2007....OUTDATED!
thats dumb as hell...other automakers do not sacrifice power for fuel economy!
First
BIASED opinion.
How so?
Well I watched a few of your videos before I made that statement and as far as the vehicles high end you had really absolutely nothing bad to say about them. BORING AND OUTDATED!
The front looks a bit like an Isuzu Axiom to me, and the interior is hideous. That "wood" trim looks awful!
the exterior is UGLY! a STEP BACK from the previous model... would never buy this and probably cringe if i ever knew anyone who owned this...
