melbert i need to know your recipe for these how do you maxcap? i simply must know i know it's extremely hot plasma and supercooled tritium, but i keep getting stumped on the tritium and nuking myself trying to make it. what's the trick? do you just burn plasma and collect the byproduct? the wiki won't help me at all

For tips i'd say observe 1 or 2 rounds of the server you're looking at playing first so you get a good idea what you're getting yourself into, then start as the beginner jobs (cargo tech / janitor / assistant for TG). Just figure out the controls and don't turn on antagonist for a long while. Don't be afraid to ask for help when in game, either in character or in OOC, people are always willing to help and understand if you're new. Keep the wiki open at all times, especially the rules / hotkeys pages. A few youtube channels have very scarce but decent guides for new players, I suggest maybe watching some. Don't be afraid to die, and don't be disheartened when you inevitably do.
Friendly tip: If you die, stick around as a ghost instead of leaving the server. Most if not all servers have randomized spawner roles you can take when you're dead which'll give you a chance to practice some more advanced roles using the wiki as a guide (Machine Cult for Robotics/Surgery, Plant People for Botany, Golems for Mining/R&D, Stranded Station/Ruskie Drone for Engineering/Atmos, Syndicate Researcher/Comm Agent for Telecomms/Chemistry, etc) without the worry of being killed by an antag or accidently fucking the entire station, and if you stay as a ghost you might have the chance to play as special roles like Space Ninjas, sentient animals or alien abductors. Plus, as a ghost, you can see a lot of things you might have missed if you were playing, sometimes it can be like watching videos like this but in real-time.
Another friendly tip: When you're setting up your character, there's a button you can press to choose your desired role at roundstart. Set that up however you want, but I'd HEAVILY recommend changing "Pick random role if preferred job unavailable" to "Return to lobby if preferred job unavailable", especially as a new player. The last thing you want is to queue up for a simple learning role and be dumped into Engineering or Virology before you understand how to play, let alone perform those specific jobs.
The last little bit of advice I can offer is to remember to read the server rules of the server you're playing on. Every server has different rules, a lot of them are universal like "no self-antagging", "no IC in OOC", "no ERP", "no metagaming" ect, but it's important to check the rules before you start playing, just in case.

The biggest starting roadblock is understanding the steps to construction exactly and greatest risk of all you'll have doing that is either dying of plasma poisoning and overheat/frost which doesn't pose problems to the station (as long as there's no open flames). Problem is when the bomb is properly made, station is at the mercy of whoever got the remote if the lunatic didn't put something else on
