A big thing is to learn the basics and learn them probably. Learn emergency braking and emergency swerving. Im a brand new rider and I have heard and seen guy’s, talking how good they are and they have been riding for 30-40 years, but they can barely do a U turn🤷🏻♂️ I decided I don’t want to be that guy.. I want to learn all I possibly can, to make my self more safe. Wenn idiots are trying to get you.
Good topic,it brings to mind an article in Bike magazine,Rupert Paul,”people drive their cars like they use washing machines,brainlessly!My own pet hate is car drivers taking blind bends on wrong side of the road,it happens virtually every time I go out on the bike,or in car, AARRGGHH!!
Us in the UK love are queues, if you jump the queue then we get angry. That’s why we don’t like filtering. I don’t care, I love filtering. Always leave your front light on. I saw a guy on an adventure bike filtering through traffic one time and he had very bright flashing lights on his forks and they were amazing. Just keep your distance and be aware of junctions. Don’t overtake where there are junctions.
The overtaking is something I struggle soooo much with being a 125 rider. I have a 125 ninja and it does take a little to get to speed and keep up with traffic but god the people where I live are so impatient the amount of times I’ve almost been pushed off the road by an idiot in a van or pick up overtaking way too close is ridiculous. No thought for anyone on the road but themselves!
Where I live now neither filtering or lane splitting is allows however, they are allowed in California. I have performed both safety there for years. I’m not a big proponent of lane splitting as most riders perform at unsafe speeds and can scare those drivers that are unaware they are coming through. As you mentioned always be aware of the potential. I have watched several drivers look right at me in their mirror and make a lane change at the last minute cutting me off. Can’t say it was on purpose or not but fortunately I was aware and was going at a safe speed to adjust. As most, I could go on and on but will leave for others to comment on.
When I have a close call, I always remember what it was that I did or failed to recognize that caused it to happen. Riding is like a video game and the AI controlling all the other vehicles ranges from good to very bad. The object is simple. Get through your ride without crashing. You have no control over the AI in the game, just your own.
Yea your front brake is your friend when approaching junction. But emergency braking is abit riskier when there is someone behind you not expecting you to suddenly brake.
how does that work , they see you and think you are miles away then pull out cause they dont see you, i ride and it all because you are speeding, simple as that
That’s just bs! First day I got my new bike, I had 3 people drive out in front of me. And I was actually below the speed limit.. So don’t assume every body is speeding.

I was always told to treat every driver like they don’t see you. Be defensive
