I'm going to choose to believe that Carrie played the demo for this, knocked things over in the prologue, and then quit on principle when the game tried to enact consequences for breaking things and causing chaos as a cat in a video game.
aw yeah, Crypt Custodian! I finished this a few weeks ago and it was super fun! The dev has made a couple of metroidvanias before this one and they're all fast paced, fun adventures. I do like that there's no option to heal while you're adventuring, but you can warp back to your last save point at any time, which automatically heals you. So when I was low on health, I was incentivized to press on and hope to find the next save point, because I could warp back but if I died I'd still have to retrace my steps either way
Anyone else getting major "Death's Door" vibes from this? 31:24 You started with four- they're used on your barrier right now. You got one more from that chest, for a total of five.
12:37: Nobody tell Dan about pottery. 2:32: Just like a normal housecat! 10:08: Sucks that there are people who _actually_ think this way. 30:18: Midgar Zolom vibes.
The cloud seems to turn into a cat whenever you land very close to the edge of a platform. I think the game is also slightly course-correcting you when that happens to make sure you don't fall in the water and it gives you some leeway in your jumps. It's especially very noticeable at 16:10
The reason why sometimes the landing smoke sometimes becomes you shaped is because you land on the edge or close to it, I think its just something they added to help you with landing the jumps I think in order to trigger it you have to barely make it
I love the you shaped cloud, because my understanding was that it's basically the devs saying "Look, you and I both know you didn't /really/ make that jump, but we're not here to be strict jerks about jumping so we're gonna give it to you."
This game looks so cute! I also love that Pips talking noise kinda sounds like the "Mmmmmr?" noise cats make, but almost as if it was clipped and pressed repeatedly on a piano.
Cold take. But nobody's actually made up a term they can get other people to use. In part because if others did use it, they'd then have to explain that they meant "Metroidvania". And most people are not dedicated enough to eradicating the term "Metroidvania" to do that. Was anyone around here active in the video game fandom in the 90's? How'd we get FPS fans to stop calling them Doom-clonez?
18:03 - When you walked in, grabbed the key, checked the map, then left without pulling the lever. I rewound, and told my wife to watch it with me so we could yell at Dan together again. Thank you for bringing couples together 😝
My dude. You loved Hollow Knight and Tunic and this game is going to sit up on the same shelf with them. I look forward to seeing you have a great time with this charming game. :)
27:44 I was gonna comment about this next episode if Dan didn't bring it up himself, but yes: you can absolutely jump over attacks to dodge them if needed. This can actually be more effective than dodging sometimes since you can punish enemy attacks with a powerful jump attack, which can add up quite quickly
You missed picking up that weird silver orb thing. Go left of Kendra's voting sign and then down on the first little blue brick island you come to. ^_^
Not gonna lie, based on the title? I was kind of hoping for a cuter, less gorey Viscera Cleanup Detail sort of situation - maybe some Luigi's Mansion ghostbusting action, sweeping the dust and moss of the ancient ruins that comprise this area and get it fit for (after)living? This, though, is also good.
This game has the polar opposite vibe of Hollow Knight to me. Like Hollow Knight is this grand aggressive epic narrative of a kingdom in decline, but that kingdom is literally an ant farm. This game is a story of death, and the afterlife, but it's told as an "Oh isn't he just so quirky and precious" story about an anthropomorphized cat. Not a criticism, just doing very similar things very differently.
Hmm interesting. If I understand philosophies correctly, so far this game is more accurately satanist than any heavy metal playing gorefest filled with horn covered monsters
I don't think he played Lost in Random or Moo Lander, but he did play Death's Door a few years ago, and a lot of Cult of the Lamb, though mostly on twitch, so you have to see the vods (channel is PlayFrame Plus Stream VODS).
He's already played Cult of the Lamb, 2 episodes are uploaded here while the rest are on his Twitch Channel. And he's done one episode of Death's Door as well.
Sadly, though I love the vibes, I have found I SUCK at Metroidvanias, so I'm unlikely to pick this one up. Very excited for the playthrough, though! Not to talk religion, but being punished eternally for something you didn't know was wrong is very... hrmmm... yeah. Commentary. 🫤🫤🫤
After all these years, now Dan is the cat. How the tables have turned.
I'm going to choose to believe that Carrie played the demo for this, knocked things over in the prologue, and then quit on principle when the game tried to enact consequences for breaking things and causing chaos as a cat in a video game.
I had a very weird feeling that smashing the statues was going to come back in a bad way, and I’m surprised to find I was right
25:25 Kendra sure seems like a true paragon of humility

Hot take, I don't think Kendra is actually fair or has ever opened the palace door😅
I know nothing beyond this video, but I'm inclined to doubt that there even really is a Palace
Oooh, this is the bad place
I don't think she can open the palace door
Anyone else getting major "Death's Door" vibes from this?

33:36 “I’ll probably know the vessels when I see them.” Proceeds to walk up to a thing with a young ghost cat floating above a well or bowl.
I was wondering...
@ I’m proven wrong very early in the second video.
@@christyencremins7676 I just saw that! Oh well, haha
Every now and then there's a new playthrough that I go and buy the game immediately. That is one.
I did the same thing! Immediately dropped the livestream I was watching and played it last month
I know I want to play this now!!
12:37: Nobody tell Dan about pottery.
2:32: Just like a normal housecat!
10:08: Sucks that there are people who _actually_ think this way.

Ya, it is like a reverse coyote time.
What if Kendra lost the key to the Palace and so has been lying about why no one can go in?
Welcome to PlayCat, now with 100% more cat game playthroughs🐱

Fun fact, I've played Islets, and I'm pretty sure the song for the mini boss at 15:00 is from there, a little reused asset / Easter egg
This game really is a gorgeous, interactive painting.
Ah, I love this little game so much. Comfortably in the top 10 games I played last year, and I'm excited to watch it all over again
I recently watched someone stream this game and thought "man, I hope Dan picks this up so I can see the rest of it". Hooray!
Crypt Custodian was one of my favorite 2024 games! I'm so excited for this playthrough. You're gonna love it.
We've gotta come up with a better term than "Metroidvania" for any game where exploring and character progression through item acquisition matter
Cold take. But nobody's actually made up a term they can get other people to use.

The music in this game is very atmospheric, reminds me of the music from the game OneShot

Oh, Crypt Custodian! Quite the sleeper hit from 2024. Loved that game so much, and I need someone to do a pressing of the sountrack on Vinyl ASAP.
I have played Islets and can definitely say you would probably enjoy it.
Happy New Year Dan & Carrie!🎉
You missed picking up that weird silver orb thing. Go left of Kendra's voting sign and then down on the first little blue brick island you come to. ^_^
It's an incredibly cute and quaint game with a lot of Polish, I think you'll like it.
9:36 I JOKED ABOUT THIS HAPPENING! I did not expect the game to do it tho! feels kinda awful that they *force* you to break something
i watched a playthrough of this literally yesterday w h a t
this is a really cool game!
4:00 the “view button” apparently, but I’m sure everyone just thinks of it as left start (as opposed to right start)
Also known as "Select" or "Back".
It's share on PS5 as that button opens the share menu
I didn't expect the least voted playthrough to be featured so soon, but let's hope it's a good one!
Added this to my wishlist earlier and was thinking of getting it, but I suppose a Dan lets play would have to do :P
Not heard of this game, but that title and description seem promising.
that healthbar bettse max out at 9
Cute little game. Look forward to seeing more of it.
Islets is a delight! It's got some of the shmooviest controls I've ever seen.
i read t hat as crypt crustation somehow, WHY BRAIN WHY
If it makes you feel any better, I read the first full priced upgrade Dan bought as "Spirit's Butter"
The cat, Pluto, looks like Flynn, who is the cat I recently acquired. So my headcanon is now that his name is Flynn.
This game has the polar opposite vibe of Hollow Knight to me. Like Hollow Knight is this grand aggressive epic narrative of a kingdom in decline, but that kingdom is literally an ant farm.

A cat game! I haven't heard of this one, looks really nice!
Lol, is there a way to get to kendra without destroying the statue? be funny if there was an easter egg for that.
Yeah, that map style is VERY hyper light drifter...
Wonder what happens if you refrain from breaking statues... What excuse does the game use to force you outside the palace.
Your Pip voice is so darn cute
Sorry Dan, I'll have to bookmark this and watch it when I'm done playing it. Enjoy!
Hmm interesting. If I understand philosophies correctly, so far this game is more accurately satanist than any heavy metal playing gorefest filled with horn covered monsters
💙
btw i luv ur vids
Please know that if my viewership of this playthrough drops off, it's because I went to go play the game myself
0/10. Missed the cat pun. Crypt CATstodian
hey dan i know this is a bit wierd but can you pls pls pls do lost in random or cult of the lamb or deaths door and moo lander pls!!!!!!!!
