The Lamb of God

When Issac asked his father where the lamb for the offering was, Abraham explained that God would provide Himself with a Lamb (Genesis 22:8). This was more than an answer to Isaac's inquiry; it was a prophecy. Like the multitudes of offerings at the Tabernacle and Temple, the ram caught by its horns in the thicket was not that Lamb (Genesis 22:13). John the Baptist signaled its fulfillment of Abraham's words when he declared, "Behold, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world." (John 1:29)
