in 1983 Nina did a Disco/Dance/Funk Album which is just about the craziest thing I have heard. This was the second single which was pretty big in clubs at the time. It combines opera, dance, and rap. Interesting fact- her back up band for this album (although not on this song) was the red hot chili peppers, and half the album was co written with them. This video will crack you up!
This song was a cover by Zarah Leander a Swedish singer/actress who performed for Germany 1938-1943. This song is from a movie done in 1942.

My Nina favorite is "Was es ist" (What it is), which is a clean rap song, at a time, when rap was just "invented" (1983). Her delivery is perfect, and the lyrics are phantastic and very spiritual.

This song is an ode to Zarah Leander who was a very popular singer during the 1930's, 40's and 50's in Germany...she was loved also by the Nazi's but she refused to sing glory songs to the Reich.
I had the magical gift of recording with Nina . She is truly an original. And an amazing soul.
Nina Hagen was so far ahead of her time. She inspired so many other female singers that today's young people claim invented everything. Wrong. Nina invented everything.
She often revived forgotten songs, like here "Ich weiss es wird einmal ein Wunder geschehen" by Zarah Leander.
