There is little to no info or tutorials on anyrail past the General layout and settings. I am sooo stuck. Trying to do multiple elevation changes on multiple levels. I got fusterated and gave up. Tutorials in advanced would be great

I am modelling HO but it is very close to being the same except of course for size. Please do continue with your lessons on AnyRail. Fantastic job Ron.
Sir Ron, thanks for intro to AnyRail 6 and demo of N scale layout. HO scale is more common. Does AnyRail 6 have more accessories files than N scale? How about entering locos and rolling stock data to see fit and motion fluidity? Electric power schematic and placement possible? A finished layout animation would be optimal.

I bought this and am starting to learn the software. One nice feature is there is a question mark all the way to the right in a blue circle. This brings up a browser to the anyrail website to the user manual. It was pretty helpful when I was creating a simple 24" x 48" set up with n-gauge. I went and bought it and then came back to make these comments. Thanks, Ron for making this and talking about this! This was really easy to use and I am getting better at it.

He's Exactly right to recommend AnyRail software. Dudes, I have Autodesk Civil 3D and know how to use it, and I STILL am thinking I need to just use AnyRail! No way am I going to question ANYONE to about using AnyRail.
After more than a year of self-learning on AnyRail 6, the few minutes watching your tutorial resolved several issues I've had and shown faster, easier ways to do things. Since my layout highlights the differences in terrain the NYC, PRR, and B&O passenger trains encountered between New York and Chicago, I'm struggling most with transitioning smoothly between level track and the moderate to severe slopes encountered in the mountainous areas. Would love to see you create a tutorial on that.
Ron i have been playing with AnyRail but haven't paid for it yet. Please keep adding more on this subject. I have liked what I have seen but after this I want more.
Just found this video and it i so useful. I have purchased Anyrail and done what we all do....just dived in with no real idea. Now, having spent a very valuable 45 minutes I can go and get the job done properly. Thanks Ron, be great to see another video looking in more depth.
Very much enjoyed this video. You covered well some necessary features of the software. I am interested in more videos of other features. Two quibbles: 1 Move the shot from your camera to a location on the finished screen where you won’t be doing things in the Any Rail screen. Your cursor kept doing things that were behind the camera view. 2 You did some things that you didn’t explain. You did some things or moved some things that you then backed up to undo those things. You said that you were backing up ( or something) but you didn’t explain how you were doing that. I would like to hear you explain those actions.
I tend to use standard keyboard shortcuts more than the mouse that Ron did, and I think some of the things that you missed were probably done with keyboard shortcuts. For instance, holding down the CNTL and the C key at the same time will copy the highlighted objects into your clipboard. Then, CNTL+V to paste the copy somewhere else. I especially use CNTL+Z for undo. I use that one a lot! Accidentally moved something, deleted something, or moved or deleted more objects than you intended? CNTL+Z to the rescue to put them back. That new siding isn't working out? Use CNTL+Z multiple times will slowly undo it all one step at a time until you get back to where you were. Even better, if you use CNTL+Z too much, CNTL+Y will start adding stuff back in again.
I have been working with AnyRay6 for some time. Your right about price, and ease to use. I'm building my layout and have printed each panel out as I progress with railroad. What I didn find out is that it is just about perfect as far as being right now. I really like it.

This is so perfect and actually crazy because right before I opened UA-cam I was thinking about doing research on current software for track planning as Im about to start designing and building a new layout. I hadnt searched for any videos but your video about your north yard was on my home page so I watched that and learned a lot of great info that I never knew, even after building 6 or 7 different layouts since I was a littlenkid in the mid 80's. That was so informative that after subscribing I found this video and Im definitely going to try out the free version first even though it appears to do exactly what Im looking for. Back in the early-mid 2000's when I started my last layout, which was my first one where I actually was old enough, had the skills and most importantly had a good job that afforded me the ability to build a larger N-scale 6' x 16' layout with a 2' x 6' operating pit in the center that I had on one side of my garage. I tried using a couple different layout design software programs at the time but I wasnt very happy with either as they were confusing and didnt really speed up the design process much so I went back to my tried and true method of taping a few 8x11 sheets of paper that had the grids preprinted and drew the layout to scale that way, with each square being 6". After watching this video Im excited to start designing my new and very long awaited and much larger layout! Thanks for the great video!

Thanks so much for this Ron. I have AnyRail 6 and tried to use but got frustrated and quit. After watching this video I loaded it up again and tried all of the things that you demonstrated and viola, worked just as it should. I then built several simple track plans with so little effort. Please show us more of how to use AnyRail 6. I think that this a great tool for modelers and I can see that it would have saved me hours and hours of time designing my layout if I had just taken the time to learn it!. AnyRail is great. I used it to design my layout, selecting the exact type of track that I was using, even placing scenery elements from the libraries. Once the planning was done I printed it out to a full size PDF and took the file over to my friendly UPS Store where they printed the full size layout that I could take back home to use for laying things out on my benchwork.
As an architect who works with AutoCAD and taught it for years at college level, I must commend you for a great video! I actually just downloaded the program last week and running across this was very helpful and timely! Thanks, Ron!

I am just getting back into model railroading. I have moved from HO to N now to Z. I found the AnyRail software a couple of days back and I've been playing with it ever since. Your video has shown me a lot more and easier ways to design layouts. Thank you
Ron, Mike Fifer turned me on to AnyRail several years ago and I love it. I have designed many layouts with it; however, due to limited space, I used it to design my present switching layout, which measures 4 X 16 in the middle of my living room. Being able to order just the right Kato track has also saved me money. Actually paid for my AnyRail purchase. Nice video. - Scorpio

Hi Ron, Greetings from the UK. I have been a subscriber of your channel for some time now. I watched this video and felt compelled to comment that you are very good at Model Railroading. All your videos have excellent content and are very informative. What I like about your channel the most is that you explain things really well. This video is no different. As a newbie, I wanted to get an understanding of how to design a track plan and then translate that onto my baseboards. Thank you for imparting that knowledge. As a disabled guy, I struggled with clicking on the exact coordinates to create my surfaces in the software. I wanted to share something that I used to get my surfaces drawn up to the exact measurements. I used the floating ruler that is available when you right click. This helped me out immensely. I'm sure that you know about this feature and also realise that it is impossible to cover all features of this comprehensive software in a video. But I thought that this might be an useful tool for some of your viewers who face similar challenges as I do. Keep up the good work my friend.

It takes less than 5 seconds for me to get frustrated with any kind of computer program. I downloaded Anyrail (prior to this video) and tried figuring it out... five seconds later looked up your site, sure enough you had this tutorial. Now several months have past and I think I have more fun playing with Anyrail than I will building my layout (medical issues have held me back, but got the okay to start my build). If you're using the free version, you only get to use up to 50 pieces of track BUT as far as I can tell, unlimited number of plans you can build!. So, my "layout" is actually 5 different plans :D, showing the table top running from left to right. If you can, I'd advise buying the program, it's easy to use (even for me!). Even if you don't build a layout, Anyrail on it's own is a lot of fun to play with! I've book marked this tutorial and have watched it several times for reference. Thanks for teaching me how to use the program Ron!
Purchase the license, it is very much worth it. I have used the software to plan a few versions of a layout I am getting ready to build. Maybe I can build one of them but I have to stop thinking of things I would like to have. BTW, that is me on the home page.

Just getting interested in model railroading. Have been watching your videos continously. They have been a great help as I build diaramas to test my artistic abilities. This video was excellent as an introduction to planning a layout. I hope I can find more.
Ron, I enjoyed this video. I have used AnyRail for several and you reminded me about some features I hadn't used in a while. Some suggestions: 1-Consider moving your "talking head" insert to the upper right, not much going on up there. 2- In Mouse Properties >Pointers for your cursor, increase the size of the cursor to make it easier for the viewers (and you) to see (I use the Windows Default (extra large)(system scheme), and 3- In Mouse Properties >Pointer Options >show the location of the pointer when I press the CTRL key (that way you do not have to move the cursor roundy-roundy to show people where it is). I’m at the early stage of planning a multi-level layout. I’ve downloaded the “free” version to try out AnyRail and plan to buy the $59 version. This video showed me enough to get started. Now, I would like to learn to add height measurements and slopes for grades I will need for a multi-level layout.
Ron Thank you. Great tutorial. I would also like to see additional, intermediate and advanced use of AnyRail. Particularly how to see what specific products you need to purchase one you have completed the track plan. Also how you move from the software to putting into place on the real benchwork

Your explanation of the software ANYRAIL 6 was great. If using both an N scale and HO scale on same level, could you make the adjustment at the very top of the settings without messing up your completed work?
Please continue with these tutorials Ron. I have AnyRail6 on my old Toshiba laptop and cannot seem to get it transferred onto my new Dell laptop. I bought this software so long ago I don't have a record of the user name or password I used to set it up on the Toshiba. A tutorial for how to get that done would be great! Thanks for this video. I know that this is an old post, but I am getting back into my HO railroading after a 50+ year hiatus. I am using flex track and my wife's Department 56 North Pole series buildings for a winter look with a Hogwart's Express as my main train unit with DCC controls! But I am highly interested in this system. Thanks
You just sold me on this piece of software. I've been kind of looking around at the different programs out there to draw up the layout we are building. I always enjoyed seeing the drawing in all the magazines of layouts and wondered what most people are using. I hope you continue on with your series. I would like to see how you build the different levels in, and grades/elevations. Is there ways you can use this to draw and build control pannels for different industries and yards? I also enjoy listening to you on AML, your wit and raising fits right in with the rest of the crew. Keep up the great work.
I'm only a minute and a half in, but I designed my switching layout using the demo version of AnyRail. Due to the limitation on the number of track pieces you can use on the demo, I had to design it in two parts, but I was really impressed by how easy it is to use. Enough so that I may soon pull the trigger on the full version.
Also, I decided to download the demo version of AnyRail because I decided to build my layout using Kato Unitrack. I already had two versions of RTS on my computer, but those limited me to using Atlas components - which are really hard to find right now!
This is a GREAT video. I am starting my first layout and have the ANYRAIL app. I haven't gone much further than the 'experimentation' phase. It looks like I need a computer upgrade to view the 3D. I would love to see more on elevations, inclines, etc. I learned more from your video in 45 minutes than experimenting for several hours. I've subscribed to your channel.
I have any rail 6 and use it often, but cannot figure out how to create inclines, declines and other various tools that are available for use in this awesome software. I noticed you were playing with the little plus signs on the flex track to achieve certain curve behaviors. you can also use the "smooth flex" or "smooth curve" to achieve the same results. I cant remember the name, but its up in the menu when you have flex track highlighted. I have to piggyback on your touting of this software, as it is really user friendly. Like I said, I use it often and have had it for a few years, but even your intro to the software showed me some tricks. I would love to see more videos on this software, as I am sure newbies to the hobby would as well. Thanks dude!
I've used 2 other PC based Track planning software systems in the past, but never heard of this one. I've been using a mac for the last 8 years, which might be why. I'll be going back to a PC in the next year or so for DCC programming reasons and this one is good to know about. I'd be interested in how your entire layout looks in AnyRail => how a more detailed design looks - maybe a 'virtual tour' of the layout with shots of the real layout mixed in!? I'm also interested in how this can depict benchwork (for modular layouts), and electrical wiring. Good video. Thanks!

Hi Ron I have a tip not sure if you know it but when you do the siding curves or any joining/sweeping curves if you highlight it and hit smooth flex it automatically gives and more nicer curve which can still be adjusted manually. Kind regards Dan

Having been a user of AutoCAD and similar programs for thirty+ years, I like seeing that this program has layers control (a great tool to have), as are the vendor & user generated libraries. This looks real easy to learn and use. Thanks for the “nickel tour”!

Ron This is a great video.. but as a suggestion next time can you put your camera view in the far left of the screen then you would not have to keep moving the track view so we can see it when it goes behind your camera view... I am just starting out designing my layout and this is very helpful and would love to see more videos on how to do stuff with this program. I am in Melbourne Australia and have to work out all the changes from inches to metric.. fun fun fun... and I am modelling in HO scale also.

So far I have used only the free trial version; the library has Atlas Code 55 in N-scale, my preferred track. It has been kind of hard to use without having seen this tutorial. Thanks for the great "how to."

Ron, I have abandomed RR-Track due to the lack of support. I have Windows 11 and RR-Track dumps without saving your work. Emailed support and got no response. They have support of Win95, WinXP, Windows 8, and Windows 10, but not Win 11. They have not uptated the copyright since 2017. I recently bought anyRail 6 and glad I did. I watched your video and rewinded multiple times to get all the info I need to bring to complete my design using Kato UniTrack. RR-Track suports sectional track only. I know what to do now with AnyRail and working on finishing my N scale layout. What I think would be really helpful is for someone demonstrate how to crate Grades (working in the Z coordinate system). BTW, I am now a believer of NO-OX-ID due to your videos on it. I also found an application for it on my vacation trailer to improve the electrical connectivity is 7-pin plug on the back of our truck.
Ron - about 23 minutes into the video you're showing the track libraries and I can see Atlas listed below Arnold. They may have added Atlas track since you started using AnyRail 6. (I started using AnyRail when it was version 5 - as you may have too - and I know they've been adding content). Thanks for the tutorial.
You mentioned you would do another tutorial. That would be great. I am an N scaler. I recently took my dc layout down and am now starting over. I bought anyrail and am planning on using it to design my new dcc layout.
Very good presentation. I needed a kick start to put my layout on a software designing program. I'm a design draftsman by trade and know how to use cad. I would be very interested in seeing future videos of some of the advanced features. Again, good job.

this was awesome. I am starting my first layout in my garage but its not square. its "C" shaped with squared off corners. Id love to see more tutorial on any rail. I am buying it in a few weeks.
This software looks to be a very useful tool. If i am able to get back into model rail roading i think this looks like the way to go.

Thanks so much for this Ron. I have AnyRail 6 and tried to use but got frustrated and quit. After watching this video I loaded it up again and tried all of the things that you demonstrated and viola,
worked just as it should. I then built several simple track plans with so little effort. Please show us more of how to use AnyRail 6. I think that this a great tool for modelers and I can see that
it would have saved me hours and hours of time designing my layout if I had just taken the time to learn it!.

AnyRail is great. I used it to design my layout, selecting the exact type of track that I was using, even placing scenery elements from the libraries. Once the planning was done I printed it out to a full size PDF and took the file over to my friendly UPS Store where they printed the full size layout that I could take back home to use for laying things out on my benchwork.

I am just getting back into model railroading. I have moved from HO to N now to Z. I found the AnyRail software a couple of days back and I've been playing with it ever since. Your video has shown me a lot more and easier ways to design layouts. Thank you
I am interested in the different elevation and slope/grade features as well as manipulating the landscape to create water features.
Ron, Mike Fifer turned me on to AnyRail several years ago and I love it. I have designed many layouts with it; however, due to limited space, I used it to design my present switching layout, which measures 4 X 16 in the middle of my living room. Being able to order just the right Kato track has also saved me money. Actually paid for my AnyRail purchase. Nice video. - Scorpio

Hi Ron, Greetings from the UK. I have been a subscriber of your channel for some time now. I watched this video and felt compelled to comment that you are very good at Model Railroading. All your videos have excellent content and are very informative. What I like about your channel the most is that you explain things really well. This video is no different. As a newbie, I wanted to get an understanding of how to design a track plan and then translate that onto my baseboards. Thank you for imparting that knowledge. As a disabled guy, I struggled with clicking on the exact coordinates to create my surfaces in the software. I wanted to share something that I used to get my surfaces drawn up to the exact measurements. I used the floating ruler that is available when you right click. This helped me out immensely. I'm sure that you know about this feature and also realise that it is impossible to cover all features of this comprehensive software in a video. But I thought that this might be an useful tool for some of your viewers who face similar challenges as I do. Keep up the good work my friend.

It takes less than 5 seconds for me to get frustrated with any kind of computer program. I downloaded Anyrail (prior to this video) and tried figuring it out... five seconds later looked up your site, sure enough you had this tutorial. Now several months have past and I think I have more fun playing with Anyrail than I will building my layout (medical issues have held me back, but got the okay to start my build). If you're using the free version, you only get to use up to 50 pieces of track BUT as far as I can tell, unlimited number of plans you can build!. So, my "layout" is actually 5 different plans :D, showing the table top running from left to right. If you can, I'd advise buying the program, it's easy to use (even for me!). Even if you don't build a layout, Anyrail on it's own is a lot of fun to play with! I've book marked this tutorial and have watched it several times for reference. Thanks for teaching me how to use the program Ron!
Purchase the license, it is very much worth it. I have used the software to plan a few versions of a layout I am getting ready to build. Maybe I can build one of them but I have to stop thinking of things I would like to have. BTW, that is me on the home page.

Just getting interested in model railroading. Have been watching your videos continously. They have been a great help as I build diaramas to test my artistic abilities. This video was excellent as an introduction to planning a layout. I hope I can find more.
Ron, I enjoyed this video. I have used AnyRail for several and you reminded me about some features I hadn't used in a while.
Some suggestions:
1-Consider moving your "talking head" insert to the upper right, not much going on up there.
2- In Mouse Properties >Pointers for your cursor, increase the size of the cursor to make it easier for the viewers (and you) to see (I use the Windows Default (extra large)(system scheme), and
3- In Mouse Properties >Pointer Options >show the location of the pointer when I press the CTRL key (that way you do not have to move the cursor roundy-roundy to show people where it is).

I’m at the early stage of planning a multi-level layout. I’ve downloaded the “free” version to try out AnyRail and plan to buy the $59 version. This video showed me enough to get started. Now, I would like to learn to add height measurements and slopes for grades I will need for a multi-level layout.

Your explanation of the software ANYRAIL 6 was great. If using both an N scale and HO scale on same level, could you make the adjustment at the very top of the settings without messing up your completed work?

I bought this software so long ago I don't have a record of the user name or password I used to set it up on the Toshiba. A tutorial for how to get that done would be great! Thanks for this video. I am a newbie to Anyrail and found this to be well articulated, clear and concise. Together with your railroad yard videos, I was within hours able to design a layout with solutions to some very challenging problems. Well done, sir!

This was an excellent video on AnyRail 6. I have downloaded and used it, but your video really helped expand my knowledge of the software and helped me to understand where I was having questions, especially on using flex track. I know that this is an old post, but I am getting back into my HO railroading after a 50+ year hiatus. I am using flex track and my wife's Department 56 North Pole series buildings for a winter look with a Hogwart's Express as my main train unit with DCC controls!
But I am highly interested in this system. Thanks
You just sold me on this piece of software. I've been kind of looking around at the different programs out there to draw up the layout we are building. I always enjoyed seeing the drawing in all the magazines of layouts and wondered what most people are using.
I hope you continue on with your series. I would like to see how you build the different levels in, and grades/elevations. Is there ways you can use this to draw and build control pannels for different industries and yards?
I also enjoy listening to you on AML, your wit and raising fits right in with the rest of the crew. Keep up the great work.
I'm only a minute and a half in, but I designed my switching layout using the demo version of AnyRail. Due to the limitation on the number of track pieces you can use on the demo, I had to design it in two parts, but I was really impressed by how easy it is to use. Enough so that I may soon pull the trigger on the full version.
Also, I decided to download the demo version of AnyRail because I decided to build my layout using Kato Unitrack. I already had two versions of RTS on my computer, but those limited me to using Atlas components - which are really hard to find right now!

I am starting my first layout and have the ANYRAIL app. I haven't gone much further than the 'experimentation' phase. It looks like I need a computer upgrade to view the 3D.
I would love to see more on elevations, inclines, etc. I learned more from your video in 45 minutes than experimenting for several hours. I've subscribed to your channel.
I have any rail 6 and use it often, but cannot figure out how to create inclines, declines and other various tools that are available for use in this awesome software. I noticed you were playing with the little plus signs on the flex track to achieve certain curve behaviors. you can also use the "smooth flex" or "smooth curve" to achieve the same results. I cant remember the name, but its up in the menu when you have flex track highlighted. I have to piggyback on your touting of this software, as it is really user friendly. Like I said, I use it often and have had it for a few years, but even your intro to the software showed me some tricks. I would love to see more videos on this software, as I am sure newbies to the hobby would as well. Thanks dude!
I've used 2 other PC based Track planning software systems in the past, but never heard of this one. I've been using a mac for the last 8 years, which might be why. I'll be going back to a PC in the next year or so for DCC programming reasons and this one is good to know about.
I'd be interested in how your entire layout looks in AnyRail => how a more detailed design looks - maybe a 'virtual tour' of the layout with shots of the real layout mixed in!?
I'm also interested in how this can depict benchwork (for modular layouts), and electrical wiring.

I have a tip not sure if you know it but when you do the siding curves or any joining/sweeping curves if you highlight it and hit smooth flex it automatically gives and more nicer curve which can still be adjusted manually.

Quick question, your video shows your grid marks at 2" and 12" on the same screen. How did you get that to show. Mine is showing just 12 or jut 2. Would love to see the smaller grid inside the larger. Thanks

Ron This is a great video.. but as a suggestion next time can you put your camera view in the far left of the screen then you would not have to keep moving the track view so we can see it when it goes behind your camera view... I am just starting out designing my layout and this is very helpful and would love to see more videos on how to do stuff with this program. I am in Melbourne Australia and have to work out all the changes from inches to metric.. fun fun fun... and I am modelling in HO scale also.

So far I have used only the free trial version; the library has Atlas Code 55 in N-scale, my preferred track. It has been kind of hard to use without having seen this tutorial. Thanks for the great "how to."

Ron, I have abandomed RR-Track due to the lack of support. I have Windows 11 and RR-Track dumps without saving your work. Emailed support and got no response. They have support of Win95, WinXP, Windows 8, and Windows 10, but not Win 11. They have not uptated the copyright since 2017. I recently bought anyRail 6 and glad I did. I watched your video and rewinded multiple times to get all the info I need to bring to complete my design using Kato UniTrack. RR-Track suports sectional track only. I know what to do now with AnyRail and working on finishing my N scale layout.
What I think would be really helpful is for someone demonstrate how to crate Grades (working in the Z coordinate system). BTW, I am now a believer of NO-OX-ID due to your videos on it. I also found an application for it on my vacation trailer to improve the electrical connectivity is 7-pin plug on the back of our truck.

Ron - about 23 minutes into the video you're showing the track libraries and I can see Atlas listed below Arnold. They may have added Atlas track since you started using AnyRail 6. (I started using AnyRail when it was version 5 - as you may have too - and I know they've been adding content). Thanks for the tutorial.
