Damn, they are awesome, never seen them before, the end result is brilliant, I'm off to my shed to give these a try. Cheers for the inspiration, once again
John, not only a blacksmith but a true artisan metal worker, my wife came in just after you made the eyes and nose and she thought you were making a chicken. Love the faces keep well and I trust the finger has healed. Regards Steve
Commentary reminded me of Bob Ross and his happy little trees. Awesome project, the forge gave birth to some railroad spikes so I'm going to have to try this.
I really like the tool and method tutorials in this video. I realize it’s not always possible in every video, but it’s good to review some of the older videos to get this info that’s already been covered.
Very Nice Video , I took notes , Of course ! Great technique , I Will ve making some more tools , first ! But these go on my to do list ! Thanks for the inspiration ! Take Care
Hey thank you so much for everything that you teach us you are an amazing blacksmith and I appreciate the work that you do most people have no idea what kind of work goes into blacksmithing and making stuff of your own just got done making a Thor's head from a 1-in piece of square bar came out really nice can't wait for more content love the sculpting
Thanks again for the video. I've wanted to do these for a while now. I took the time today to start making all of the various punches and chisels needed for it, along with a farrier rasp Viking axe and some modified tongs. All I need to put together now is the vice block, which looks pretty self explanatory. This is going to be fun!
This is amazing, I've never seen it done before and I absolutely love it! Definitely something I want to learn to do in the future. Thank you for sharing this 😊
Poor old wizard looks like he's been hitting the potions a bit too much. He's gone a vit bug eyed. Hahaha. Looks good John. You have obviously done a few of those.
I really enjoyed this video, the anticipation has been pretty good from your hints in previous videos. I COULD NOT stop laughing when you "straightened him out" with the hammer, pretty much smacking a face in the forehead with a cross pene. His expression was of surprise and confusion for a while.
What I would like to see is shots of the fire control and how the projects are put into the fire. It seems to be the part most blacksmith videos gloss over or ignore completely. It would take a second camera setup I realize, and I'm not sure how it could be edited in. But just a thought. I'm sure I would end up burning the mustach off. Now I got more tools to make.
Awesome, John. I have carved many a wood spirit walking stick. Amazing how similar the process of shaping is although the medium and technique is different. New subber here for shure. I have half a bucket of spikes to hone my craft here. Was thinking about the wizard face up higher and forging a blade from the lower end.
thanks John, I am trying to work out a way also when I'm chiseling my bit at the end fro bolt jaw tongs, the one's with a curve, I put it in the anvil, and try to put a bit of flat under the bet part, but the support keeps wanting to move and fly off, any Idea's mate. Cheers Len
If you made a T shaped support with the leg the same thickness as the bow in the tongs you could clam the tongs and the support in the vise together with the part that needs to be split sitting on the support.
You have been a video making machine, and it is very much appreciated. When using a gas forge, is there less potential scale on the areas that are not directly in the flame? I ask because in order to avoid burning off the moustache and produce less scale, can you just put a beefier part of the steel into the flame and allow the heat to travel up into the moustache? Thanks! Jerry
I may have to slow down to get caught up on orders. But the video projects let me try things i don't do allof the time and I do enjoy that. I think keeping the detail area out of the direct flame will help. Turning the gas down a bit so it isn't so hot may also help reduce some of the scale build up.
Regarding the notion that no one can tell us we got the dragon wrong since they've never seen one... A six-year-old boy once insisted one of my horn-less dragons was actually a dinosaur. After taking a second look, I decided he was right. I'm still trying to get the neck & back curve right for a dinosaur. Maybe I'll get it if I keep trying.
I do not currently, but will probably cover an assortment of figure carving tools in the near future. I generally would have done that before doing this video, but I needed to get the order that these faces went on shipped.
No I have bought them from several different places over the years. I think this one cam from Pieh Tool. There is a link in the video description to their web site. I get about a year out of one of them.
useless trivia alert: set means to press down to flush or beyond...originally from egyptian seth something about chasing the sun ...where we got sunset, and other derivatives from that.
Still loving your older videos too. The wizard heads are such fun.
Damn, they are awesome, never seen them before, the end result is brilliant, I'm off to my shed to give these a try. Cheers for the inspiration, once again
Have fun
I really in joy all of you show I'm learning a lot for your video thank you
He's a great guy fantastic blacksmith and kind man .Best video.
Obsoletely awesome great job.... Kinda know the basic from wood carving from wood spirits. Needless to say I'm all over this......wow 🔥🔨
Really nice work 👏
I love these faces, they make me laugh
Thank you
John, not only a blacksmith but a true artisan metal worker, my wife came in just after you made the eyes and nose and she thought you were making a chicken. Love the faces keep well and I trust the finger has healed.
Regards Steve
Never forged a chicken. I am glad you liked the video. The finger is mostly healed, but will take awhile for full recovery.
Super profesore
Extremely creative and incorporates a multitude of skills and lessons both in forging and in tooling. Thanks for sharing John
Watching your videos is sure motivating me to get out into the shop and forge more this winter. Thanks again!
Oh good, that was my devious plan all along.
Commentary reminded me of Bob Ross and his happy little trees. Awesome project, the forge gave birth to some railroad spikes so I'm going to have to try this.
You aren't the first person to make the Bob Ross comparison. Maybe I should find a wig that looks like his hair.

I'm going to try this and do it as a journeyman nail.
Great job. Good practice for the upcoming gargoyle project.
Oh yeah, that project 😉
Gorgeous beautiful
Nice video, thanks.
Great tutorial John , thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome! Your skill and creativity just blows me away! What great fun you are sharing with us! Thank you, Mr. S.

Its a dragon, prove me wrong! Thats gold.
John, you're a master for sure. thx.
I'm no master, just a guy that likes to try new things. Sometimes I keep doing those new things for quite a few years and actually get better at it. 😜
Nice work on the anvil
I had not seen the set-tool work before. For me, that will be a key. Thanks!
That is a tool that comes in handy for other things as well.
Yes! I'm going to explore its uses today. :)
Thank you John. I have learned so much from you. You have been an amazing inspiration in my life and I'm sure the lives for others.
You are so welcome

Very nice video John. Best one I've see on how to do a wizard.
Thank you, that means a lot to me.
Thank you for this! its sucha fun project idea and different than a lot of the other videos Ive been seeing!
You're welcome
Wow. Really nice work. I am going to make a fire place tool set hope they look half as good. Thx John
They're gorgeous.
Thank you
Your a true artist! Loved the video. The vice tool.....brilliant idea! I'll try and make one.
Very cool. I need to make the holder for the vise. My guys always jump all around the anvil.
They do like to run off if you're not careful.
I love this and it's fun to do. Thanks for sharing.
I am glad you enjoyed it.

very nice prespective ;) been making some wizard but none look like that, thank you for the video ! :)
That was a fun video. I appreciate it.
Thanks, they are great
Love it, might be a bit harder than whittling though. Thanks John.
True
This is amazing, I've never seen it done before and I absolutely love it! Definitely something I want to learn to do in the future. Thank you for sharing this 😊
Very nice work. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
You're welcome
Thanks! I've been wanting to make something like this.
Poor old wizard looks like he's been hitting the potions a bit too much. He's gone a vit bug eyed. Hahaha. Looks good John. You have obviously done a few of those.
MAGIC !!
thank you
Vary good video
Thanks enjoyed
loved it great video well explained

Glad you enjoyed it. Sometimes you just have to have fun with what your working on.
He looks great. Might give a kid nightmares.LOL
Beautiful work!
Thanks

Good suggestion. Particularly with the coal forge, not such an issue with gas.
Nice
wow! thanks for the video
You're welcome
Before the mouth it looked like Jamie Hyneman.
they look really nice John! Wife wants me to do some curtain rod holders, I might experiment with some basic faces on them.
I am sure you can come up with something.
Maybe start a new Christmas tradition for my grandkids. Way better than elf on a shelf. But I can't think of something that rhymes with wizard. Lol
You could make a lizard to go with the wizard, but thats just silly.
Black Bear Forge or Blizzard Wizards? Lol
Nail sets make good small eye punches.
Good tip

Sounds like that should work.
Really enjoyable tutorial! Just before you added the beard, my stepson said it looked like an angry chef. lol
I am glad you're watching together, sounds like fun.
He helps out in the shop as my blower operator. I keep telling him its a good job for a 9 year old.
Thanks I enjoyed that.. Anthony Kent HAWK woodlore knives UK.
You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Wow way cool stuff right there.... Can the weld be completed without a power hammer?
Sure. Welding often makes things more manageable if you don't have a power hammer.
Good John, would like to see more of that vice tool made of angle iron, could you make one of those one time please?
I'll try to add that to the list of videos to do.
thanks John, I am trying to work out a way also when I'm chiseling my bit at the end fro bolt jaw tongs, the one's with a curve, I put it in the anvil, and try to put a bit of flat under the bet part, but the support keeps wanting to move and fly off, any Idea's mate. Cheers Len

Thanks John a bit like that angeled one you used in the video?
I know you say, "wizard head," but it looks oddly similar to a "John Switzer" head... :)
Looks kind of like vermin supreme. The guy that weres the boot as a hat. They are awsome though
I know of whom you speak, he didn't make the ballot here in Colorado.

great videos John do you have the video on delicate curved chisel I been looking for one
I do not currently, but will probably cover an assortment of figure carving tools in the near future. I generally would have done that before doing this video, but I needed to get the order that these faces went on shipped.
Did u make that long bristle scale brush?
No I have bought them from several different places over the years. I think this one cam from Pieh Tool. There is a link in the video description to their web site. I get about a year out of one of them.
Black Bear Forge cool I have one I purchased from Ken's custom iron it's really heavy duty but I liked the looks of them bristles
Thank you I really got some good from watching you do that face thank you very much
How about using the head of the spike to make an alien face. :)
interesting idea
There is two faces use his nostrils as eyes and u see a Viking face

It's frustrating seeing all these videos on people's power hammers. Alot of us don't have $10,000.00+ power hammers in our backyard for this hobby.
