- Chocolate Croissants - with Puff Pastry
1 package puff pastry
½ 1 cup chocolate chips ( +/ depending on amount used in pastry)
1 egg
1 Tbsp water
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Remove the puff pastry from the freezer and thaw in the refrigerator prior to using.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper and set aside.
In a small bowl, crack the egg and add water to create an egg wash. Mix the egg and water until they are well combined and aside.
Remove puff pastry from the refrigerator and unroll sheet(s) of pastry gently. Depending on your package brand, you may have two sheets or just one in the package. Cut the pastry sheet in half (two sections now) and then each half into two equal sections (four sections now). Then, cut each of those sections in half again (eight sections now) and separate each section gently.
Place approximately one heaping tablespoon of chocolate chips in the center of each rectangle. Brush the edges with the egg wash and fold one side of the pastry over the chocolate chips and gently press down. Wet one finger with water and run over the open edge to assist in sealing the pastry. Then, fold the remaining side over the top and gently press down again to seal the pastry.
Place your folded pastries on the prepared baking sheet with the seam side down.
Brush the tops and sides of each pastry with the egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes or until they're golden brown and flakey.
** Since every oven bakes differently, begin checking them around the 15 minute mark to determine how much longer they'll need to bake.
Remove from the oven, allow the croissants to cool for about 5 minutes. Dust lightly with powdered sugar prior to serving. Enjoy!
