In my small rural NW Ohio hometown we have 2 or 3 wall murals in the downtown area. One is over 30 years old, and I thought that is was the coolest thing. We were able to drive by every few days and see it going up. In Columbus, where I lived for 28 years. There is a neighborhood called The Short North, that has an ever expanding groups of wall art going up.

Both of those works you mentioned are by the Belgian artist called ROA. You should check out his other work. He's one of the best in my opinion.
