"Tears in Heaven" is a ballad written by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings about the pain Clapton felt following the death of his four-year-old son,[1] Conor, who fell from a window of the 53rd-floor New York apartment of his mother's friend, on March 20, 1991. Clapton, who arrived at the apartment shortly after the accident,[2] was visibly distraught for months afterwards. [1] This song is one of Clapton's most successful, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the U.S. The song also spent three weeks at #1 on the American adult contemporary chart in 1992.
Will Jennings, who worked with Clapton on the song, was reluctant at first to help him with such a personal song.[2] The song was initially featured on the soundtrack to the film Rush, and it won three Grammy awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1993.
"Eric and I were engaged to write a song for a movie called Rush. We wrote a song called 'Help Me Up' for the end of the movie... then Eric saw another place in the movie for a song and he said to me, 'I want to write a song about my boy.' Eric had the first verse of the song written, which, to me, is all the song, but he wanted me to write the rest of the verse lines and the release ('Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees...'), even though I told him that it was so personal he should write everything himself. He told me that he had admired the work I did with Steve Winwood and finally there was nothing else but to do as he requested, despite the sensitivity of the subject. This is a song so personal and so sad that it is unique in my experience of writing songs." -- Will Jennings.

This sounds way better than his newer version.
It is the difference between radio and television. I was pleased to learn in many radio interviews, that the beautiful voice you hear coming out of your radio, is coming from a person in a wheelchair, a blind person or a person that has a handicap that in no way hurts them professionally.
this doesn´t hurt my self confidence as a guitar player. It´s just beautiful!!!!

전 이 영상에 정성하를 알게되었고 계속 음악을 듣게되었어요 .. 이영상때문에 tears in heaven이 좋아졌고 eric clapton이 좋아졌고 정성하가 좋아진 의미있는 영상이에요. 처음 알았던게 초등학교 6학년이였고 지금이 고삼이니까 무려 6년이나 지났는데 아직도 감동적인 기타연주. 대학 가면 공연도 가고 만나보고싶어요. 이 글을 보실지 모르겠지만 고삼생활의 힐링음악 감사합니다.

This boy's talent is extreme and I lay down my guitar to him any day, but when he plays these songs that have so much feeling and emotion in them, and are highly personal to it's composer, you can tell the lack of emotion, in this song and a couple others he plays. I would like to see this kid keep playing the guitar, I know he can express the feelings through the strings when he is in the right mood.

The story is that Thomas Leeb and Sungha became friends after Thomas watched Sungha’s playing his arrangements and invited him to his concert. This song makes me cry everytime I hear it. I can't imagine what Eric Clapton was going through when he wrote this after his son died. It is beautiful and I hope my daughters will know me when I see them in Heaven.

This kid is truly something special. He does things I've never seen anyone do. Never seen anyone maintain a lead melody and still play the rhythm chords like he does. Even Clapton considered to be one of the greatest plays it nothing like this. Yet you know what he is playing. I'm not sure even Eric could play it like this if he tried.

I have commented on this video so many times. I am glad there is this record of his extraordinary talent as a youngster. It is magic to watch such musicianship, talent and determination all wrapped into one beautiful soul. I am so glad there remains a record of the early years of this fine artist.

this year in 2018, I still see and listen to guitar excerpts from a Master Guitar Sungha Jung, and Tears in heaven is very comfortable to hear when he who plays his guitar, hopefully Sungha Jung can return to Indonesia
