This is roughly the rod action I use to catch all my carp. Medium action in the US. Mostly bottom fishing. As we can’t use mixers in most places. As that is chumming. Which is illegal in most states. Caught fish up to 28. I love the fight with the lighter action rods.
I bought a 1.75lb test curve sonik specialist barbel rod they do a 10 and 12ft version and a 2lb test curve actually brilliant rods for surface fishing
I have a ESP Floater rod. 2.25lbs TC with a through action. It is super light weight. It's super soft, but can still cast a bolt bubble very far. It is a fantastic rod to use and the bend you get in the blank is bloody amazing.
I also have the ESP floater rod . First summer I’ve used it and it’s been amazing 😎👍… I put a Daiwa Ninja LT 4000 on mine . I’ve used the rod with both braid and mono and it’s a joy to use .. I believe Terry Hearn designed it 🎣🎣🌞tight lines
Been using a daiwa power mesh 1.25lb test curve with a shimano 5000 bait runner for probably 25 years . Have caught fish to 40lb on this setup ,the rod has super strength in the bottom section and nice soft tip and I have never felt the need to use anything else. The rod has hardly any varnish is in a bad state but I love it so much feel no need to change and actually have a brand new unused replacement should it brake .
Gotta love the shilling on this channel 😂. So much nonsense. You can use pretty much anything for surface fishing. Aslong as you can get them feeding on the surface. You'll bag up all day.
When surface fishing you tend to use lighter liner and smaller hooks . Then there’s casting a float and not a 3oz lead . If you knew anything about fishing you would know the term ‘balanced tackle’ . That is why we use dedicated floater rods with softer top action etc .. however don’t let me spoil the illusion for you . 👍👍
@@MidlandAngler adding a hook length with floating line and a surface float to say one of your rods you normaly use for fishing bottom is perfectly okay as well though, there isn't really any need for a dedicated setup if you want to just bang out another rod and fish the surface, while your waiting for your alarms to go off!

That could be used has a stalking rod at the test curve. Seems a versatile rod
"Some people don't enjoy the fight and just want to get it in the net as quick as possible"
Yeah, we call them "match fishermen". Their loss
Best thing I ever did was make a dedicated floater setup. Most of my fish this year have come off that rod
I use a drennan piker 10' lure rod a savage gear sg8 4000 reel and they are ideal for surface fishing

What size line do you recommend for surface/float fishing for carp if using this reel and rod? 12lb?
I use a 1.25tc or a 1.75tc for surface fishing.
I use my feeder rod
