My brothers headgear came off during a match. Ended up with cauliflower ear. As an 8 year old I watched my brother get his ears drained. When I hit high school and was wrestling I made sure my headgear was tight with no chance of it coming off. Never got cauliflower ear thank goodness. 1998 my bro won state. 10 years later I did the same. Wrestling is a way of life in my family!
Our ear is a fragile instrument any impact or noise frequency trauma will damage the fragile inner ear which consist of three bone which moves when the eardrum is vibrating. But with the air pressure of impact of a hit or blow to the ear is enough to cause hearing damage plus the “mashing and crushing” movements that it gets whist wrestling with give the outer ear the “classic cauliflower ear”. That’s why one needs a ear guards whist fighting.
Iam greco-roman wrestler and none of us uses headgear and none of us have cauliflower ears only few of our trainers have but almost all of them participated in olympics.
In greco roman you dont often use your head or get your head in positions where you either have to damage your ears to yank it out because of a choke (like in BJJ) or get pummeled often (like in folk- and freestyle). Shooting a dubble leg is already bad for your ears because of you using the side of your head to rub your opponents torso for grip. In greco roman these positions are either illegal or just dont show up very often
Just had to get some after a small bit of cauli in my ear snapped and filled up the rest of my ear. Totally worth getting head gear. Cauliflower ear looks cool but it's annoying
how many headgears you have. in my city there is no headgear to buy no singlets to buy no wrestling shoes.if we buy online that becomes very costly. we do wrestling without any facility and every time we hurt our self. but still we are wrestlers. we love to fight.we loves fear in our opponents eyes and in the end we love to hunt the opponents because we are hungry lions.

I hated wearing headgear, summer was the best when I could leave it in the gym bag. The cauliflower ear life is the life for me.
