Many thanks for uploading this video because it sorted my timing issue whoever owned my 1942 willys jeep mb before me or whoever the person was who rebuilt the engine in the 1980's had put the oil pump in slightly not quite right because the oiler on my distributor was jammed against the block of the engine and when my friend at the garage went to adjust the timing he loosened off the distributor and it jumped out at him what we found was the distributor wasn't even sat flush it was actually sat right out and the keyway into the oil pump must have just been sat right on the edge which actually could have failed at anythime. I had been running this jeep for well over a year since I got it like this. So the distributor must have been forced into its postion for it to start up. So the oil pump was adjusted as you suggest in your video and the leads setup as you suggest from number one cylinder on top dead centre and rotor arm pointing at number one spark plug and hey presto the jeep started up. Thank you for a no nonsense straight to the point video. I am now subscribed to your youtube channel. I had a event with the jeep the very next day so thanks again.

Really useful video. I had that problem last year when I put new plug wires in and put them in according to the correct firing order which turned out to be 180 degrees off from the way the oil pump was installed. Took me a week to figure what the heck was going on. :-\

I'm putting an electronic distributor in and the rotor doesn't turn when I turn the engine. Any thoughts?

thanks ! I pulled out my distributor on my 63 cj5 f-134 engine to swap it wit a electronic distributor. according to the manual the drive unit on the oil pump has been machined off center ! dam that was driving me nuts ! so I looked down the hole and it was in the 12 0`clock position with the wide side of the shaft to the right .when I put the new dist. in I couldn`t set the timing because the plate on the dist. hit the block ! so I dropped the oil pump and turned it a few teeth now its in the 11 o`clock position. the problem I found out is that the old dist. in the 5 o`clock position will fit right in on the but the new electronic dist . goes in but at the 11 o`clock position. upon looking at the ends of the dist. shafts. the new one is machined on the opposite side of the old one. just wondering if theres a reason ! thanks .
