- Salesman Virgil Smith (Bing Crosby) is making his next big move in Austria, pushing the gramophone. He believes that if he can persuade Emperor Franz Joseph (Richard Haydn) to purchase the record player, he'll strike it rich as the nation follows suit. However, in the meantime, Smith falls for a countess (Joan Fontaine), a woman in a class above his own. Now in addition to convincing the emperor to buy his wares, Smith must also find a way to receive the emperor's blessing to marry his love.

Scheherazade. Love that name.
Pine needles simmered in hot water to relieve congestion, mentioned in this movie, at the point of seeing the majesty = the Pine tree has several health and survival areas that can be used if needed while camping in the woods. Pretty interesting; check out.
This just reminded me of A CT Yankee in King Arthur’s Court! Love that one, it’s been a minute. ⭐️

Was excited to see this, but unfortunately the sound is out of sync which really makes it unwatchable.

According to Wikipedia, Joan Fontaine said that Crosby went off script and did whatever he wanted which drove Billy Wilder crazy. Hence, they never worked together again. Wilder had actors (Willian Holden/Jack Lemmon) that he worked with repeatedly.

The Emperor of Austria was known as Franz Joseph, not Francis Joseph. It was Francis in countries where the languages are Latin in Origin.

It's inaccuracies like these that drive me crazy, like calling a sailing vessel or Steamship a Boat. Try to move a ship in the water with oars, if you can possibly have oars that can reach on either side and meet in the middle. It's a Ship, not a boat.

Wow, they actually had dogs attack each other.
YES‼️😡 APPALLING ‼️ The dog with Crosby appears to be an anxiety -dog that attacks OUT OF FEAR (!!) first. Then there's a real fight. Do remember that with filmrecordings it's rare for a scene to be correct at once... So with all "the takes" where the dogs fight that the viewer sees -> there's been far more fights ‼️ That's not caring for an animal, that's animal-abuse 😡‼️

I have the regret full impression that the larger dog while laying on its back -> wich is a submissive position, could indeed be in pain. Wich will make the next fight worse!! If the sound wasn't added, the dog might even have been effected through something else to make that sound. Like pinching it somewhere, where it's sensitive. With the dog positioned that way it will be a sound of submission, not pain. Nevertheless, psychologicly it's a bad process to undergo for the dog. Especially (again) with multiple "takes".😖 I stopped watching the movie!!
I normally like to see Bing Crosby, but if I would have been there then(?) I would have confronted him and the others with it.

She could be refering to two moments in time to come.
1. The rapture: where The Lord Jesus comes for those who accepted Him as Lord and Saviour. First the dead will rise, then those who are still alive will be transformed as in the twinkling of a moment. Also The Holy Spirit will withdraw at that moment from the earth. All those that are left behind didn't accept Jesus and cannot be saved anymore. That moment is to come soon 💖💯 God's love will be present in them, For God so loved the world (John 3 vers 16)
2. The day of judgement, wich will be later in time. The Heaven will break open and King Jesus will come with His Holy Army. Everybody on earth will see Him and then every knee will bow, every tongue confess ; " JESUS IS LORD ‼️ They will be judged by The Lord God Almighty, Most High without having accepted Jesus. They will be found guilty and hell will be their eternal place. For, by rejecting Jesus Christ -> they have made Him out to be a liar. And that is injustice. Only those who are justified in Jesus by accepting Him into their heart are allowed into Heaven.

Sweet film, but Scheherazade must identify as a male as she has the equipment...kinda difficult to miss...lol
Billy Wilder hated making this film, and hated the film itself, even when it did great at the box office and the critics liked it. He hated that he was obliged to make it in color: the technicolor of those days did not look so good, so he had a hard time trying to use sets, customs and lighting that could look decent on camera; he did one more film in color in the 50's, one in the 60's, and then all in color in the 70's and 80's.
