  • hey home brewers,
So today i'm making a lavender metheglin or spiced mead.
i'm using wild flowers known as English lavender to make a lavender mead!
I want this to have subtle notes of honey with the aroma and taste of lavender.
I am mixing the set honey I have used in my caramel and burn't meads with the value honey to try and balance the flavors.
the cost per gallon is only £3 which is impressive in it's self.
lets see how this turns outs.

Anytime I've ever had anything made with lavender its always come out tasting soapy. Best of luck!
I've been a mead homebrewer for a few years now, currently have about 20 (US) gallons: 1 gallon batches that are bottle-able of 2 traditionals made with 2 different yeasts, raspberry, blueberry, the caramelized bochet, blood orange, pineapple, grape, and pomegranate blackberry, then in the last 2 weeks I've started 1 gallon batches of prickly pear, strawberry lemonade, and coldbrew coffee! I have 3 gallons of cyser made from cider from a local orchard, then lastly another 5 gallons of traditional for a wedding. PHEW, that's a lot! Lol

hey, that's quite a few meads, even if they are US gallons :P lavender is hard to get right, of course i would like to say it will be lovely 1st time but trying to get the balance is difficult! I like the idea of a local cyser, I have been out and about hunting apple trees as most cyder farms want all the apples for then selves! cheers

Hey, I'm glad you found it then. can tell you if you follow the recipe it's good, if you age it 3 plus months it's gets even better.

I've tasted some very special treats that contained a hint of lavender; they are special and wonderful, indeed.
And I can't wait to try this recipe. I'm may also add a small quantity of hops.

hey, it's a lovely flavor, not over powering, which can make it taste like soap. with the addition of hops i bet it would have that extra edge :)

nice, I've seen ppl add Peablossoms to get a nice colour to match the flavour

Cool, mine had a mild lilac color but it's pretty faint. Maybe the pigment will get strong over the ferment. :) I may have to see how much lavender it would take to make it purple! :)

hey, it is an interesting one for sure. I had a french lavender soup and that was surprisingly good and since i was able to get some lavender I thought why not give it a go in a brew! it will be interesting to see how it tastes, it smells amazing!

    you dont use airlocks?

hey, not in the common sense, all an airlock does is stop bugs from getting in and lets the gas out. as long as you have that, you have an air lock. I use real ones too, but most of the time i like to show that you can get good results with out a whole bunch of equipment.

Oh my God, I'm really unsure about lavender. Probably going to see you yak when you taste it, lol.

lol, while it is possible that could happen, I quite like lavender :P if all goes well it should be quite mild and hopefully balanced :)
