Very nicely done Alfie, when you find good shipwrights who clearly know their stuff your on a winner. Maintaining Northern Dancer V while requiring your input and that of others, at the same she rewards you in so many tangible and less tangible ways. Peace of mind and knowing that she can take you anywhere you may wish to on the water in the future is such a good feeling. In my own less involved way, maintaining my own little 30 ft boat is equally rewarding to me. Boats are special in how they can make you feel.
I always say if you don't like boat maintenance, don't buy a boat. I really enjoy bringing things back to their original glory and Northern Dancer V has been a great project so far. Well, you understand since it sounds like you are doing the same. :)
Wow, that is a nice refit for s/v Northern Dancer V. Congratulations. She looks better and better, season after season. Great work. Great video as always.
Thanks for another great video. It seems to me that you find peace when you're aboard Northern Dancer. Stay well. Stay happy. Continued peace in your life.
As always...the gold standard for sailing videos. ND5 among some other gorgeous vessels. 👏 on the new rigging! I am 😁 to see you on ASI again. Love you guys.
Very nice! I have worked with sapele in the past and you are correct, it is HEAVY. I like the look of the wood, the way it machines, and the way it finishes. It is very pretty. Northern Dancer is looking great. Looking forward to future voyages.
Thank you and stayed tuned for move content from our Desolation Sound trip. The Sapele Mahogany sure is a nice material to work with and I have no doubt about it being the right choice for the bowsprit. :)
So glad to see you replaced that bowsprit. I commented to you when taking your dock lines at the Round Saltspring Race that it looked a little questionable...I was worried! At any rate, it is great to see your thorough action on standing rigging and bowsprit. Hope you will do Round Saltspring '24 and again impress us all with your beautiful boat. - Randall, 'Swell Skimmer'
Hi Randall. Yes, the rigging, bow sprit, and roller furlers were on the list of things to address since we bought Norther Dancer V and so glad we have it done now. We definitely plan to attend the Round Saltspring 2024! :)
Nice video Alfy, nice boat, nice new bowsprit and rigging - a beautiful boat. On the lot at ion for the wee refit - are those sheds where Peter keeps one of of three boats while he makes sawdust?😀👍⛵️
Nice work Alpy .that bowsprit looks amazing ,great work . Some major upgrades there ,however, you always need to keep up with maintenance on your boat or things add up quickly. That boat looks better all the time, love the video.
Ha ,HA Alpy there`s no end to the work, but , boat lovers except that probably as a bit of a challenge and just get on with it. Take care mate.@@lifeislikesailing
Thank you and glad you are enjoying the content so far. Our boat is a 1979 Hans Christian 43 ketch. There is a bout tour video in our collection if you want to see more of it above decks and below. :)
wow, i bet the bill for this would wake you up in the morning. It takes a fat and utterly fearless wallet for a hans christian, however they are jewels of the seas. she's a lucky girl...
Yes it sure was, but we are very lucky to have our wonderful Hans Christian, which is why we are happy to do what it takes to maintain her. We are the lucky ones to have her. :)
The Northern Dancer V always shows very well maintained on video. You do a beautiful job of caring for the vessel. 👍
Thank you and she is a labour of love for sure. :)
Looking great! 😍
Thanks David! and I hope you are well. :)
