I was super impressed by the crossfire spotter after looking through it. I planned to pick it up until I saw this drop and was able to use one. That dual focus system is the reason I'm investing in the viper over the crossfire.

To anyone who is on the fence about compact spotters do yourself a favor and get one! You won’t look back! They are incredible. One of the best tools available to any hunter no doubt!

i have the new razor and viper compacts and i have to say i find my self carrying the viper more. It weighs a bit less and i much prefer the adjustment knobs on the viper then the razors center body focus ring. I honesty cannot tell the difference in optical quality during the day. when im after hogs in low light i have noticed that the razor does give me a slightly clearer image so thats something

What are the differences between the new Viper 11-33x50 and the old Razor 11-33x50? Apart from the colour and twist-up eye cup they look very similar?

Probably a rebrand since the old razors don’t hold the same glass quality level as the new razors, but still good enough to call it a viper

Regarding the all important question of the weight of water and Nalgenes:
A quick Google search shows that 1 fl oz of water weighs about 1 ounce, maybe a couple percent more. I also have gathered experimental data:
My Nalgene filled with 32 fl oz tap water = 2 lbs 7.2 oz, or 2.825 lbs.
Nalgene empty and the inside dried out = 6.2 oz
So 32 fl oz weighs 2 pounds, 1 ounce, or 33 ounces, at least by my measurements.
I also filled my Nalgene to the brim with water and that weighed 2 lbs 13.2 oz, or 2.825 lbs.

The rubber front cap on all of these need a redesign. Comes off in my bag all the time, so now I'm running the neoprene covers, which adds a bit of bulk and weight. Other than that, my crossfire mini spotter has become my favorite optic on a 28" carbon tripod, it's ALWAYS in my pack, and comes out way more often than I thought it would. Just fix that front cap, please

I put a wide rubber band from store bought asparagus or celery around the front of the spotter. It adds the perfect amount of thickness needed to hold the cap retention piece in place

A fluid oz is a volume measurement, an ounce is a weight measurement.

Just this week I was out in the field thinking how much I could use a spotter because my binos just weren’t cutting it

Fluid ounces are a measure of volume. If you’re drinking water, 1 fl oz is 1 oz

I rushed out and snatched up the crossfire… and then this came out.

What crossfire compact are you referring to.

Fluid ounce is a measure of volume, ounce of "lead or bread" is what it weighs.

I can’t afford anything with HD in the name, but my viper gets it done.

I run the razor 11 - 33 compact spotter. Really like the compact size and clarity but don't like the field of view. My biggest complaint is finding a good phone scope attachment for the compact eyepiece. Does anyone have a good suggestion on that?

  • @richiefutrell6247

Can't listen to this one. It's such a glaring oversight that a reticle eyepiece isn't available for the more compact spotters it's infuriating.
