  • Interacting with your horse shouldn't stop whenever you dismount and finish your riding session: it's a great moment for a physical and emotional well-being check or to be mindful, grateful and humble.
It's also a great moment for some mental and physical stretches/releases.

I always cradle my mare’s head in my arms and hug her after a ride. Especially when we have a not so good morning.

I always thank my horse for looking after me and being a good horse on a ride! After dismounting, I usually lead them to a patch of grass or a hay bale and let them eat for a few minutes while, talking to them, patting and scritch scratching them. Also, when I am in their stable, in the morning, I tell them what they're going to do that day, (go for a ride, help Mum with the farm work, go and play in their paddock).
This all builds a relationship with your horse, and in time, they will get to know what the words mean and it helps them mentally prepare for what's coming next!

You can easily do this in the STABLE where you take your horse to untack. Now you'll have to carry the saddle and bridle back, then go back for your horse or vice versa.

@@zoevanmourik time is usually of the essence when riding or looking after your own. Unless you're independently wealthy and take as long as you please. Most normal people who own their own horse don't have the time to waste walking back and forth over again doing the same job twice. 🙃

@@SarahJSwift People who have no time for their horse shouldn't have one. Rent a go cart instead.

@cattymajiv you quite clearly have no horse of your own nor have you ever owned one, it seems. When I say "most" people, I mean those of us who ACTUALLY look after our own, as in we turn up at the stables on the morning (in most occasions well before work) we feed them, rug them up and turn them out. We groom them and we ride them. We don't have people to do this for us. We, normal people, call this d.i.y. it's hard, it's dirty, and it's tiring. But, we enjoy it all the same. It's long long hours, commuting to the stables before AND after work, but it's worth it in the end. So yes, normal people don't often HAVE THE DAMN TIME to be walking back and forth doing silly things, that could be done in ONE go. So, why don't you, my deary, get down off your high horse (pun VERY much intended), and stop preaching to us "NORMAL" horse owners, about wether we should have the time or not or own them. I had my old boy on DIY livery for 19 years sunshine. So go and run with your silly arsed comment. 🤪

I am sick and tired of this platform not posting replies!!!! You quite clearly do not own a horse nor have you ever, it seems. When I say MOST PEOPLE, lovey, I mean those of us "normal" people, who actually look after our horses ourselves! As in we turn up at the stables, (most times well before work), to feed, rug up, turn out and muck out our own horses. And then when we've done that, sometimes we ride and groom them and tack them up and ride them. We don't have people to do this for us! This is called DIY. I had my old boy on DIY for 19 years. So, deary, get down off your high horse (pun intended), and stop telling others if they should or shouldn't own a horse or not. We divot DON'T HAVE THE TIME, to be doing the same thing twice, and walking back and forth when the same thing can be done in one trip. You quite clearly don't have a bloody clue, so stop giving people your silly arsed thoughts on matters which you clearly don't have any idea about. 🤪
